When I squint.......I can see these beauties all shiny...chrome sparkling ....engines purring.....goodness me......they deserve to be put back to their former glory.....Jonathan,you are my favorite channel...
Bought my first car, a 47 Plodge for 25 bucks when I was 14 here in BC. Dad drove it home for me and I took the engine apart and got it back together and got it running on blocks. Gallon syrup tin for a gas tank! Start of my back yard mechanics apprenticeship. Enjoy all your endeavours Jonathan. Keep up the great work!
Oldest car I've owned was my 58 Belvedere. I'm of 1967 vintage myself. Just turned the big 5-0 one month ago today. Realized two things today. One, that the hood I had that I couldn't figure out what it was for so, I sold it cheap at the last auto flea market I was at, belonged to the car you are now getting. Two, I seriously don't think there's much you can't fix. Cheers!
If my memory serves me right...i saw a video of this very same place on youtube a year or 2 ago. It was 2 guys straying around out there and one of them told the same story about the owner of all the cars. Thanks for sharing, Jonathan. Love those old barn finds.
I done a video of these a few months back. Doubt anyone else has. Not to many know where they are and at this time I'm the only one with permission to be there.
Did you have another man with you? there was 2 men in the vid i saw. And there was a few more cars not under roof and almost grown over with vines and weeds.
Go for it, JW, love to see you get her back on the road. I had a 36 Olds, 6 cylinder, 4-door for about 10 years. Did minor restoration. I wish I still had it now and then.
I have no doubts you can do it up good if it works out you get it and I'll be watching every episode for sure. At this time you are in a tie for my favorite channel and you are by far and away the most prolific poster of any I ever liked.
That would be a great car to take to church on Sunday . The car deserves to be , just like it came from the dealer . Must of been an amazing era , just before wwII . Changing times they were. The style is quite unique
1939. The year I was born. First car I can remember was my mother's 1939 Chevrolet, just like that one. I think my family drove that car well into the 1960s. Great video!
10:00 brought back some fond memories. Starting about 1957, a friend and I wore out our Whitney and Warshawsky catalogs, planning for the big day when we'd get our drivers licenses in 1961. My dream car was a '53 Studebaker Starlite Coupe with a Cadillac engine conversion kit. I've had some cool cars during my 74 years, but I never got a "Studly." Funny how things work out sometimes.
I have been in love with the 39 Chevrolet since I was about 5 years old. I have no idea why but the first one I saw was a gray hot rod and I never forgot it.
I remember this car from a previous video, what a nice time capsule! It's in the right hands. Look foward to see what you do with it. Be a great cruiser for sure!
Man, I'm dying to see this one run!! I would be in absolute heaven to get a chance to fire all of those up! Great video, Jonathan. Love all of your videos!
Nice find! I can't wait for this series. Oil bath air cleaners were the secret- that's why the Makers quit using them. Fill the cylinders with 50-50 ATF/Acetone, refill every day, a few days before cranking it.
That 1939 Chevrolet is the same year that my Popp was born! The car guy is 10 years younger than I am! Would love that Falcon Ranchero! That would be my Dream car out of all of them! Considering how much it would cost to buy it,then start buying the parts for it! Then someone like him to help me get her rolling again! Like his 1959 F100..4.45 pm 8/29/18 cst USA Wisconsin
I had the exact car in HS it was an early master 85 that had a straight axle, and the 38 style floor box the later ones had 3 on the tree, and knee action.
If you look at that Galaxie in the barn , it has a shaft with a protruding hole on right side of steering column, the column shifter is missing. Click on the video again you will see it . Besides console shift wasn't optioned in that year , neither were buckets . Take another look
I can remember when I bought two Cherry Bombs from JCW and if I remember right it was only eight dollars each and I had to go to the post office to pick it up because they were to big to fit in the mail box . I put them on a 66 Mustang pony with a 289 with a 3 spd . Always had a JCW in one hand and Hot Rod magazine in the other .
That place must be well hidden or protected ... hard to believe that no one has stolen some of these... can’t wait to see you start it and drive it and will be following closely ..good luck.
@ 5:36, Get the 39 and the 49 for sure!!! Rest, optional!!! Even if the motors are stuck. Stovebolts are not that pricey. Especially with your connections. Two carbs and dual exhaust. A S-10 5 speed. Presto!! a great driver.
Hi Jonathan, I was 16 in 1971, and I also spent many hours lookin at JC witney cat's. What a great find, I had a 39 4 door, it was worn out but still ran, I drove it for about a year, traded it for a 50 chevy 2 door. wish I still had them both. I am lookin forward to this, If you get it. Stay safe, be well, May God Bless you and yours.
Kind of a diamond (well industrial diamond) in the rough, nice find! The Whitney catalog brings back lots of memories as a kid, find a car you wanted to buy (but couldn't your a kid, no money) and fantasize about the parts and what you'd need and what you'd do to it..
Yeah I had a 51 chevy 3 window truck that was well whipped, as is often the case I didn't have time to think about JC Whitney when I got it, I had a hard enough time just replacing things that were mechanically failing lol..
Johnathan that's gonna be one nice thing to do can't wait to see it running and out of that barn be great that you not that much older than me as I'm going to be 45 in next few weeks.
Can't wait to see this Jonathan . I've always had a thing for as found original cars like this and to be able to drive it out would be absolutely awesome . Love your video's . Dave from Australia
Man I love it when you go to that barn, such a cool collection of cars. I am kid of '71 as well. I like your plan, that thing is too beautiful to rat out. Can't wait to see it drive out of the barn, great idea.
its a really great looking car we dont see cars that nice just setting in a barn untuched by anyone other than time and the weather i hope you do get it john i know youll get it running like a top
What a cool car! That’s an ambitious goal to start it and drive it out of that barn, but I know you’re more than capable of getting it done. I can’t wait to see it move again, it’s just waiting to be started.
The fun part is getting it running and driving it out, then the work starts !! Looking forward to the journey, best regards to you Jonathan and thanks for all the projects, Geoff from AU
That is one old beauty, sure you can fix it and it'll be totally worth it. I'm a 73 vintage so it was parked before I was even a twinkle in my old mans eye
a mobilized first start awesome idea; your a top notch common sense mechanic. seems the real work the whole deal is gonna be clearing the 'runway' > oh hell yes
J.C. Whitney was also called Warshawkey ( spelling probably wrong) . Catching up on older videos Jonathan . Love them all my friend !!!!! God bless you all !!!! Eddy
Man - you're a only a year older than my oldest stepson. Thanks for making an old man feel older. I can't tell you how many J.C. Whitney catalogs I went through.
Really hard to find pre-war cars in that kind of condition these days. A real time capsule there! Sure hope you end up with it. Would love to see it drive out of that barn under its own power just like it went in so many years ago. And I’m sure you’ll have a grin a mile wide! Oh yeah, you’re still a young guy compared to me. I’ll be 62 next month!
I'm looking forward to watching what it takes to drive it out if you do make the deal. And then I'm looking forward to watching getting it road worthy.. And then I'm looking forward to watching the body work to make it purty again... I really hope it happens, Jonathan!
There has to be some connection with your birth year and the year the '39 was last on the road. Love the old originals coming out of their slumber; hope this is one of them.
Didn't you say there was a MG in the barn? I would toss the MG workshop manual into that car. I bought a bunch of stuff from J.C. Whitney. I know a lot of guys said it was junk and did not fit right. I guess it's what you expect they thought everything should always be perfect in life it's not that way. Love your videos they inspire me.
When I squint.......I can see these beauties all shiny...chrome sparkling ....engines purring.....goodness me......they deserve to be put back to their former glory.....Jonathan,you are my favorite channel...
There's so much Rod material in that shed, it's almost beyond belief. Amazing.
Bought my first car, a 47 Plodge for 25 bucks when I was 14 here in BC. Dad drove it home for me and I took the engine apart and got it back together and got it running on blocks. 1971......had my driver's license .....oh, for about 7 months ! Love this episode Jonathan !

Watch out for those dadgum snakes! What a nice find of old iron!
71 here too and i would love to follow your trip out of that barn and the rebuild of the car!!
If my memory serves me right...i saw a video of this very same place on youtube a year or 2 ago. It was 2 guys straying around out there and one of them told the same story about the owner of all the cars.

That was this video. ua-cam.com/video/u7pNFjQw12c/v-deo.html
I had a 40 chevy about the same time that car was being driven. Brings back memories.
Go for it, JW, love to see you get her back on the road. I had a 36 Olds, 6 cylinder, 4-door for about 10 years. Did minor restoration. I wish I still had it now and then.
Can't wait to see ya drive it out. Hope you include clearing the path and seeing what you find there too... LOL
looks like it needs a good power wash and look almost new .Great find can't wait to see it run
I have no doubts you can do it up good if it works out you get it and I'll be watching every episode for sure. At this time you are in a tie for my favorite channel and you are by far and away the most prolific poster of any I ever liked.
That will be quite the project just getting it out. It's nice to know the guy is coming around to selling those before they are just piles of rust.
That would be a great car to take to church on Sunday . The car deserves to be , just like it came from the dealer . Must of been an amazing era , just before wwII . Changing times they were. The style is quite unique

Great save, looking forward to the restore.
Nice find! I can't wait for this series. Oil bath air cleaners were the secret- that's why the Makers quit using them. Fill the cylinders with 50-50 ATF/Acetone, refill every day, a few days before cranking it.
I've used the ATF/ with Diesel Fuel mixed together and that works like you said also. Just make sure to turn over before Plug's go back in......
"...looking for an original old driver...." You and me both, good sir!
That 1939 Chevrolet is the same year that my Popp was born! The car guy is 10 years younger than I am! Would love that Falcon Ranchero! That would be my Dream car out of all of them! I'm a red blooded american male. We spent as much time looking at JC Witney as we did Playboy.

can't wait for the next video on the 39 Chevy. Great story telling Jonathan, thanks.
If you look at that Galaxie in the barn , it has a shaft with a protruding hole on right side of steering column, the column shifter is missing. Click on the video again you will see it . Besides console shift wasn't optioned in that year , neither were buckets . Take another look

Was in the army at Ft. Devens Mass. in 70, I bought a junk yard find then - 1935 Ford Woodie, still have it.
Kind of a diamond (well industrial diamond) in the rough, nice find! The Whitney catalog brings back lots of memories as a kid, find a car you wanted to buy (but couldn't your a kid, no money) and fantasize about the parts and what you'd need and what you'd do to it..
You hit the nail on the head! Finally bought a 46 Dodge truck when I was 15 after fantasizing about every old car made.
Yeah I had a 51 chevy 3 window truck that was well whipped, as is often the case I didn't have time to think about JC Whitney when I got it, I had a hard enough time just replacing things that were mechanically failing lol..

I am sure if it can be driven out , you can do it. I wonder if that 59 Galaxy has the 390 Thunderbird special? With the floor shift I bet it does.
