As a bad eyesight haver, it's important to point out color shifting through corrective lenses. It's a property of physics and not cheap versus good optics. Through my glasses, green shifts less than red. Look at a gas station sign with green and red price lights. Keep your eyes focused on a point between them and turn your head side to side and up and down. You'll see that the red and green shift at different ratios, and for me, in different directions. That's important when deciding which color to pick up. I laugh when someone's showing off a dot optic and says it's parallax free and it doesnt shift with corrective lenses. Well, the edge of my glasses are bullet proof and the center is less than half that thickness, so there's going to be a major difference in the color shifting through the different thickness of material.

Holy crap this is awesome. I started using holosun as my first dot sight because I could see the green better than red but couldn’t figure out why, I just thought it was me.

Enjoyed this a bunch! Thanks for the comparison + humor approach. Looks like that 32rd “fun stick” adds to the recoil rocking! I am waiting for Holosun to come out with a duck-shaped reticle, or maybe a groundhog? 😂 (I like the MRS for now). I agree w Paul’s comment on Mission-oriented context. Various sizes and features are going to have strengths and weaknesses depending on shooter and scenario. That’s why I have so many guns and RDS optics, LOL. The “grab it voting method” was quick and fun! How about glass clarity? Did you notice any differences?

So well said and glad you enjoyed the video! Really appreciate your feedback it's super great to hear. Glass clarity! Great point. Honestly nothing jumped out at us so all the glass was clear. The only thing I personally noticed was the 507C ACSS Vulcan had a little distortion at the top but Mark is checking it against another 507C to see if that is normal or not.

The depiction of the ACSS is misleading. It made it look similar to the circle dot reticle. You won’t see the huge outer circle when the aiming chevron or dot is visible. You only see the part of the circle you need to tilt the gun towards to bring to the chevron or dot to the center. This is the reticle I recommend for people who can’t or won’t put the time in to build muscle memory like older shooters. It also excels at shooting when you are out of the normal flat range perfect position.

    • @TheBigOne0305
      @TheBigOne0305 3 місяці тому +5

Exactly. I've been using an HE509 ACSS on a Glock 17 MOS for some time now. 99% of the time the outer ring isn't needed and I have considered turning it off to save on battery life. But then there is that one draw every once in a while where your grip just isn't perfect or where you are shooting under a VTAC barricade in full kit and your position behind the gun is all messed up and suddenly that ring becomes a life saver again.
The chevron also combines the precision of a 1 MOA dot with the speed of a 10 MOA dot. If you have the time and need the precision, use the point of the chevron. If you need speed, just put the entire giant chevron on your target and you are good to go.
But that isn't something you learn in an hour on the range handling the optic for the first time. It takes some getting used to.

@@TheBigOne0305 The 507K version, which was also in the video, is the same way. However, it replaces the chevron with a simple dot (1 or 2 moa, I think) and turns the solid outer circle into a dashed-line outer circle, which noticeably improves battery life. I highly recommend it if you're looking for something that fits the shield footprint.

So I do really love the vulcan concept, but my issue is with the ACSS reticle (chevron). Even with my glasses on, I see basically two different chevrons, and I don't get this issue with dots. Without my glasses, dots are basically a starburst, but even with my prescription glasses on the chevron is not crisp at all for me. Kinda sucky, but wanted to let others know who may experience this same issue.

So I got an ACSS Vulcan for my brother who is a newbie shooter and while gear is nothing without training (which I know he's not going to put in the necessary time in) I wanted to give him every advantage he can get. However, I have astigmatism and I was surprised to see how big the chevron reticle was and it isn't crisp as a 2moa dot (granted it's a starburst to my eyes, but I can work with it). I believe the ACSS Vulcan is still effective, but those with astigmatism need to be aware that the chevron may not be visually sharp as they hoped for depending on the severity of their eye site.

I've been using three different types of Holosun's , First ; 43x 507k on dove tail adapter plate even with alot of practice it's still hard to find quickly. Second ; G-45 507C ACSS on D.T. adapter plate eazy and fast . Third ; G-19 EPS MRS almost co-wittnesses w/factory sights eazy and fast , sits on adapter with MOS factor cut . The 43x needs Milled and I'd get the 507k ACSS on it . The G-45 needs Milled and I'll keep the 507C ACSS on it . The G-19 I'll get taller iron sights and it will be true co-wittness . Take alot of time and money to get the setup right.

I don't understand how experienced Shooters with dots could ever have problems instantly finding the dot or keeping the dot in the window during recoil because I only started using dot Optics less than 2 months ago and I use a 407k on a Hellcat, and after watching some training videos for beginner dot users and learning how to bring the handgun up and in front of me from the draw and I have almost never had a problem having the dot instantly be in my window when I get the gun in front of me and even with my Hellcat the dot stays in the window and on target the whole time. If it is that easy for me why is it hard for other more experienced shooters? I just find it very bizarre hearing any experience shooter talk about having any trouble at all finding the dot 😕

It does when shooting fast. Big window is easier to keep the dot in view or when drawing or transitioning if not indexed correctly you can lose the dot and blow time trying to get back on target. SRO is most superior in my opinion as I'd rather have height than width.

@@920WASHBURN It helps with dot acquisition, too. Yes, I'm sure everyone I talk to on the internet perfectly acquires their dot every single time, without fail. I'm just a guy that shoots guns, though, so I don't flawlessly execute a perfect draw and presentation every single time and having a large window helps with that, too.
Those ACSS reticles on the 507K and 507C remedy that issue quite nicely, though. As well as the issue of losing track of the dot. I've used both a fair amount and highly recommend them. The K is smaller and has better battery life than the C and is easily the correct pick for a carry piece. For the range, the biggest question to decide between them would be whether you like a dot or the chevron. Window size would, in fact, be the last consideration, imo. With those two dots.
On the other hand, I've never used anything that lets me feel as confident and fast as a 1-moa SRO makes me feel.

CRS? Can't Remember Sh!t??? Tell ya what, at home I have 24", 28", 30" and 32" windows. I'll shoot through all of them and let you know how size effects my shooting. Nah. That's just silly. So is your testing methodology.
If you want it to mean something use the scientific method. Change ONE variable and one variable only and test for THAT. The way you're doing it no one knows if it was the gun, the chevron, the window or the shooter. (or the range for that matter).
This may be fun for you and an excuse to pop some primers but to the end of finding 'which is better', its a total fail.
