@@Mister_Listener while I see your point, I’d like to disagree. The colors in the costumes contrast drastically from what is actually happening outside of Cabaret. This show is obviously during the holocaust, and to fill the space and color and glitter is contrasting exponentially. Oh my days. What a production! Id never seen Mason in anything previously but the portrayal of Emcee was the perfect balance of fun and menacing. "Money" was my favourite song. Fabulous!
It feels like a very stylized 2024 - Las Vegas version of that time period. This shouldn’t be your favorite, because you lose the heart of the show, but it looks like a lotta visual fun.
Probably would kill his wallet. Why would anyone go see a musical played the same as it was 60 years ago when it’s been so long even the MATERIALS available for costuming aren’t the same. Tastes change and we live in a capitalist society were we have jobs and need to make sellable productions
Oh, my! This looked absolutely stunning! The colors and designs are this lovely pop of vibrant life in the background of the dull blackness of the historical context. It's such a lovely juxtaposition... and it tugs my heart.
THEY MADE A 2023 PERFORMANCE HOLY SHIT. I wish I knew about this when playing in Cabaret last year it was such a fun time and would have loved to see others do this play
i think the doll style is cool but the whole point of cabaret is humanity and how easily it can be corrupted as well as purely human emotions within an inhumane time and i think it kinda takes away from that
It presents the same attitude that a 2024 revival of HAiR would project: historical cluelessness. Watching a fresh take on tragic history presented by “kids today” makes me feel somewhat off kilter. This happens in musicals a lot. This one is actually a good example of what “camp” is. I am not hating, just an observation.
Am a fan of the movie and a huge fan of this production that i saw two nights ago….don’t really understand the need to compare or rank them.for those criticizing it…did you see it….?
Being of German heritage, this is not the same as traditional Germany cabarets. This is westernised. Germans would have a chuckle, at the poor accents to: it’s a hard one to imitate - Germans would not appreciate this cabaret all round. Perhaps westerners would, Hollywood would, enjoy! - but do not try and state it’s the way German cabarets should be or are as it’s simply not true and arrogant. It is an Americanised version. Akin to Oktoberfest, you will not find traditional Germans celebrating there anymore, mainly tourists - apart from those Germans working there, they stay at home, as it has been overtaken with loud drunken Americans and Australians etc. If you know the German culture they detest loud and fake people who are over the top. As this cabaret was. American and western audiences enjoy!
I loved the original, and I loved the 1998 revival with Alan Cummings and Natasha Richardson. This just sort of looks like it's trying to get attention. Yawn.
I like the different/updated looks and styles; every great city has gone through periods of explosive creativity throwing off all the old rules so maybe it doesn’t have to stay wedded to Weimar Germany 😏 This clip also makes one realize the MC role does not have to be cast male (in truth almost every role can be both gender blind and color blind)
What historical aspect? It’s ww2 Germany, you just need to make it clear it’s Nazis and that’s as much history you need to get across. This is not like a period drama were you want to be immersed in history and enjoy the historical visuals, this is literally about society slipping into violence and people ignoring it with fun. Works with any time period. But go look at pictures of the original 1966 production. They really did not go for historical accuracy

THIS is how cabaret was meant to be performed: raunchy, bizzare, grimmy. its perfect
