I remember Maths in a box and have been looking for it forever. I used to watch TV when I was off school sick etc and used to love it all, I miss those days and something about telly has changed for the worst or maybe just changed and I'm older and lost the inner child and his magic. I love all this stuff thanks!, Happier days. Certainly all the great comedians have now gone/passed away like The Two Ronnies/Dave Allen/Dick Emery/Benny Hill etc and Paul Hogan although he's still around for the moment along with Jasper Carrot. I'm glad I grew up when I did.
BBC/ITV Schools and Colleges. I learnt more about English,Maths,The Feminist Movement,Media,The World from watching these programmes than at school. It"s easy to forget that in the 1960"s,70"s and 80"s each of the 15 ITV Regional Company"s had their own Education officer for ITV"s Schools and Colleges Programmes. You learnt a lot and is more intresting than THIS MORNING,Jermery Kilyle and LOOSE WOMEN! HAPPY DAYS! Thanks for the post. A former disabled carer. From the New Forest Thanks again GOD BLESS!
I grew up in the 80s so I'm surprised I don't remember any of these. All I remember is "Ticky ticky tox, into the box". (Funny how rhyming gibberish sticks in the memory!) Some seriously frightening music at 2:58 - I'm glad programme makers don't try to scare toddlers any more! :)
Where has this gentle kind brilliance gone?????. I was too young for the maths in a box thing but do recall many of the other programmes for schools and colleges such as WATCH! and obviously the opening music titles of these in tandem.
Ah now Watch - that was brilliant. While most of these shows had creepy synthesiser music, Watch had the most wonderfully beautiful classical style theme tune.
Thank you for uploading these gems , so many distant memories ! BTW, the music from the 'Physical Science' programme at 2:58 is a track called 'Quest-Fast' by the great Delia Derbyshire , from Electrosonic album, 1972.
this is great stuff! i am an anglophile from way back and i have also always loved old educational films and this is a heavenly combination! super dig the BBC radiophonic themes in here too. thanks for posting!!!!!!
Yes me too! I remember it well from my childhood and would love to see an episode again! There is nothing anywhere as I can see on it,wonder if the BBC still have?
was music time the one presented by a blond woman that always dressed in what looked a pair of 70's curtains and played a tambourine?. and i remember theme tune for engineering craft studies but it must have been from some other show cos i cant remember ever watching that show.
Can you please please please put up a whole episode of maths in a box if you've got it! I remember it from school days and they had a small box like a TARDIS in it! Thanks!
Does anyone remember a programme called 'Everybody Here' ? It was in the 80s and I think it was a school programme. I have been searching the internet for it for ages but now I'm starting to think I am going mad and it never existed :s
Walrus had an electronic signature tune and then a tune over the specific subjects it covered. I would like to see an episode from this incarnation of Walrus which I believe included a song towards the end (one had a girl singing).
Correction… The version of the tune used here is the 1972 cover by Hot Butter, which is by far the most famous version of the song (I utterly hate this version). As for there being a Jean-Michel Jarre version, I don't think he made one, and if he ever did, it certainly wasn't a hit. Though a lot of people confuse Pop Corn with Jarre's song "Oxygene Part 4" as they both have a similar melody and are both early synthesiser classics :)
I ordered some DVDs some years ago from him and they were excellent quality. Like you I tried contacting him again about a year or so ago and i got no reply. Let me know if you have managed to contact him since.
anyone remember a big-haired little woman who used present a music programme in which she'd take a class of children and help them create and perform an original song? it was awful. she had a flat voice. one song was entitled 'Lonely'. i am not sleeping tonight; tonight i watch kid's shows...

There was an episode called 'May I Have The Pleasure' shown, I think 1974/75 would be great to see that again.
I was in "Talkabout"! I thought it had disappeared from the face of the earth!!!
Well done for archiving this!
10/10
Some of these themes surely had an influence on BoC, Aphex etc!

This brings back a lot of memories.
LOOOLLL!! On "TALK ABOUT", the little kid in the striped t-shirt made an obscene gesture, and the black kid's jaw drops!
God bless you Sir/Madam. I thought I was mad because I couldn't find anything about Maths in a box for years. Thought I had hallucinated it!
Yes me too! I remember it well from my childhood and would love to see an episode again! There is nothing anywhere as I can see on it,wonder if the BBC still have?
Didn't Powka have a sword that was like a slide rule?
Me too!! I would recall it to my friends and they would look at me like I was mad!
The other show that used 'Popcorn' for the theme tune was 'The Great Egg Race'.
Ahh, save the best till last, classic BBC Radiophonic sound
Good grief! Nice to hear those again.
LOL you gotta love the classic 70s and 80s synth sounds accompanied by brilliantly tacky animation :D

Brilliant video, brings back some great memories, do you have any episodes of 'capricorn game' I have the tune stuck in my head, lol
is that Kim Goody singing "talkabout"?
That song from the Walrus titles is incredible, is there much more of it?

At 0:33 I bet half these kids are probably managing directors or what have you !
my god..time warp..it wa a great time to be a kid
do u have any clips of walrus?
01:22 what's the song
Matthew Stamp popcorn by Gershon Kingsley. It was also done by Jean-Michel Jarre too.

After 4 is the name of a Walrus episode which was a schools programme. I assume you are joking!
Trying to get hold of this guy. Any ideas how I can order from him?
I ordered some DVDs some years ago from him and they were excellent quality. Like you I tried contacting him again about a year or so ago and i got no reply. Let me know if you have managed to contact him since.
Maths-in-a-box???? Wow..
Atara wasn't it?
atara ben tovim... bet you cant even remember putting that comment 8 years ago haha.
Not to split hairs, but how could "AFTER 4" be a schools programme??
May have been a series in Walrus which was frequently repeated.

Do you have any clips of Mathscore/ Maths Score? Can't seem to find it on youtube...
