"A Job Worth Doing" sounds like the legendary John Baker of the Radiophonic Workshop. I'd recognise those bottle sounds anywhere. "Near And Far" sounds like Dick Mills of the Workshop (not sure, though), but "Words And Pictures" is definitely Paddy Kingsland. Amazing music and graphics.
I have to agree with you. I had Threads locked at the back of a hidden part of my memory until I heard that music. That music for Near and Far didn't help things neither - looks and sounds like a very serious PIF.
I have argued the toss with myself over a schools programme that used HOUSE OF THE KING by FOCUS eons ago, with a wierd sort of logo, which has been embedded on my mind for so long...thank you for that...i can sleep peacefully now....well, despite you showing WORDS & PICTURES which reminds me of THREADS....!
There's a tune been driving me nuts for weeks . . .it's something like the one with the flags in this montage , I need to get to hear more of that piece of music to see if it's the one thats haunting me!!
They just played a bit of it as the Music question on University Challenge! Totally weird hearing it again. Suddenly had the urge to look this up on UA-cam.
+dancingduade Yeah it was pretty creepy, I don't know what the hell some of these 70's and 80's kid's TV producers were thinking (actually they were probably all on drugs).
That Encounter France music brings back memories of sitting crosslegged in front of a giant TV on wheels on a rather nasty carpet at school. And what is with the posh bird saying Pic-Tures?
Does anyone remember a science TV show during the daytime in the 70's (maybe BBC2) in which a guy was doing various chemistry experiements with beakers and test tubes and machines, but you only ever saw his hands? I have vague memories of watching it when I was about 3 and it used to fascinate me.
There was a guy on school's TV, I think he had grey hair and would have been about 40 (I don't mean Arthur English). This guy sounded exactly like Alan Partridge which is why I'm trying to remember who he is. I think he was on a mathematics program based mainly in a kitchen/house (again, I definitely don't mean the Arthur English one). Any ideas? Also a kids programme with a hippy band fronted by a mad kaftan wearing woman who played flute. Any ideas?
That's either going to be Sky (ITV 1975), or Look and Reads 'The Boy From Space' (BBC 1971)...probably the latter. They are both onUA-cam...hope this helps.
Atarah Ben Tovim. Near and Far I remember that its like the ending of Sgt Pepper a day in the life song. creepy shit like aliens watching us from far away get the fuck out aliens!
There was a programme for children in the early 70s that had an alien boy in it. Do you have any idea what it was. It's haunted me for life..The boy had very blonde hair and I think he may have come here to learn english?
The 'Encounter France' theme takes me right back. Haven't heard it in decades!
Near and Far is amazing. Truly astonishing.
Thank you for these clips. Some amazing songs on here. So strange to hear them for the first time after so many years. The persistence of memory eh?
Thank you for this-most interesting too!
Forgot how scary Near And Far start was!
I never forgot the terror of Near And Far, like many others on here. Makes those who crapped themselves at the Picture Box theme seem like wimps!

like the spooky near and far music, and the Encounter France theme is similar to stop, look, listen.
Like the Kraftwerk intro
😍wonderful tunes ☺

Would love to see some 'Crow and Alice' from Look and Read - they were on before Cosmo and Dibs took over, I think....
Fantastic !
Absolutely Brill
It was the boy from space. It terrified the living daylights out of me and at the age of 44 I just had to turn it off. I'll go back to it. Thank you.
Near And Far theme - Scared the crap out of me as a kid sat in front of the giant TV on wheels at my school.

Huh? How do you say pictures in a not posh way, then?
