Hey, great video! I just wanted to say that this genre isn't actually "Phonk". Its Brazilian Funk. Phonk is something completely different. Many people get confused by Phonk and Brazilian Funk as some songs contain both names (For example "Brazilian Phonk Mano"). These songs were one of the first "Phonk" songs to go viral, causing confusion in the community. The difference between those genres is actually quite clear. In Phonk, you normally use cowbells and English Memphis rap vocals, as well as a unique rhythm to keep the song interesting (For example "Close Eyes", "AVOID ME" or "GHOST!"). In Brazilian Funk you normally use Portuguese vocals, a completely different rhythm, different drums, lack of constant snares and different mixing (For example "TUCA DONKA", "X-SLIDE" or "SLAY!"). There are many more differences that I wouldn't really want to name in a UA-cam comment section, but you get the point. If you want to know more, check out KIL KROOKs new video, where he talks about that topic more in depth. As a Brazilian Funk producer, this annoys me a lot, which is why I wanted to mention it! Cheers!
Thanks, that’s actually super insightful and way more helpful than the rest of these comments. I was aiming for the style of “SLAY!” which I assumed was Phonk. I’m a tad confused because “SLAY!” Uses cowbells and rap vocals, which to me would seem to fit your description of Phonk rather than Brazilian Funk?
@@ListenUpJames I could talk forever about what people are calling phonk these days; just watch some of the videos online. Kil Krook's "What Happened to Phonk?" is extensive. A lot of people claim that phonk is something like Ghostface Playa's "I Don't Give a F***." Also, Kordhell's recent album is saturated with noises that is more back to "traditional" phonk.
@@ListenUpJames Glad that you like my explanation! About "SLAY!": Yes it does use cowbells, but not really rap vocals. All the vocals you hear in "SLAY!" are Portuguese vocals, at least to my knowledge. Now, for example the drums are way different. There are 2 different kicks that have a specific rhythm, and the arrangement as well as the bass is quite typical for Brazilian Funk. Brazilian Funk also often uses voxes with bare sounds like "Uh Uh Ah Ah" or "Vai Vai Vai". Those can also be heard in "SLAY!". Most of the time, there are also percs built into a Brazilian Funk track, but with "SLAY!" that's not the case. There are also MANY different subgenres of Brazilian Funk like Slide Funk, Ogryzek Style, Dashie Style or Eternxlkz Style. You could also count in Krushfunk as a Brazilian Funk subgenre, it sounds way different tho and is more similar to Krushclub than it is to Brazilian Funk. If you'd like to learn a bit more about Phonk and Brazilian Funk in general, feel free to dm me on discord! My tag is envacity.
argue all y'all want but producers blended Brazilian Funk and phonk so much that it's a different genre at this point. Brazilian Funk ≠ Brazilian Phonk
James, you asked me at some point, that whats the diff w og phonk and new phonk. Basically theyre two different genres from different origins, like trap. There’s trap and trap edm, which are both referred as trap. They have two different origins, but share a name, with edm added to other one to break the confusion. Same with this, both were referred as phonk, but the other one is called Brazilian for clearing up and for its origin as it was mixed up with Brazilian funk. Hope this helps you and others too
Future Phonk / Krush phonk / House phonk I spent way too long in the phonk communities and the 90s Ogs would flame me. The reason being is the only similarity is the cowbell. Phonk is early hip-hop/trap based. The new age South America inspired phonk sound incorporation with electeonic house. While this is a pretty good tutorial it may be misleading
Oh my god! This is NUTS! You're gonna swoosh everyone from the phonk chart. Honestly, did not expect you to make such a banger when first asked for phonk. PS. as people say, this is indeed "modern" phonk. That is, original phonk blended with brazilian funk. Anyways, I feel so happy because this is exactly what I asked for 😄 Could you elaborate on this one?
So basically this is just a regular kick drum with a tonne of distortion, but I actually just got the kick sample straight from Splice which sounds like this without any effects
Idc if it’s brazilian funk or phonk - that sounds like splitting hairs over subgenres, just make sure you call it brazilian. Putting ppl like holy mob/doomshop, soudiere etc in the same box as this stuff is cruel😭
I remember a comment that told him this isnt phonk, because its not phonk Ther was a long fight like over 12 replies I can't find it, he got so embarrassed of losing the fight that he just deleted it, what a dumbass Also, as a person who used to produce phonk, that is NOT phonk
I deleted it because the comment made no sense, I had one person telling me it's brazillian phonk, another saying its brazillian funk, a different comment in the chain saying it was phonk, a separate one saying it was drift phonk, and some random one saying it's krushfunk. I'm all for constructive feedback, but all of you guys are arguing for the sake of arguing, and not one of you seems to know what genre it ACTUALLY is. So for that reason, I'm deleting the chains containing misinformation and keeping those that are constructive. A perfect example is your comment above, calling me a "dumbass" for no reason at all, another comment saying "this is not phonk" and then 0 explanation of what phonk is, and what genre the track in the video actually is. I'll let you respond, but that's why your comment will be deleted shortly too. And respectfully, since you know so much about phonk, why does the music on your page sound like a 10 year old has just used garageband for the first time?
This style is kind of stolen from the funk here in Brazil, the real phonk is the vibe of Freddie Dredd, Ugovhb, EF and 4kguto. I think their style is better than the funk they create, even more than most They are very forced💀
Thanks for all of the support on my recent videos y'all :)💛
