Just finished Rarotonga and enjoyed it immensely. At first I thought I was in a Sterling Hayden novel until I read on, and realized you have a unique style of your own. Well done.
Why do these videos always make me smile, even before watching them. Thank you Christian for your contributions.
so true. There’s a buzz seeing a new video is out…. and sometimes I don’t rush to watch it just cause they’re rare and timing of the viewing matters.
Love this video, “ you can’t see anything but feel everything”. Brilliant thank you Christian
The videos are rare, but are always a treat for the eyes and the ears. So glad Mr. Williams continues to grace us with his narrative on life and sailing. Long may he sail.
What a treat. I get to listen to prose by Christian Williams to finish the day.
I come from a French background. I struggled to learn English, and for thirty years in that process, I have never heard someone speak English with such eloquence & elegance. Just your way of speaking is a refreshing treat.
Christian, I am just in awe of how you communicate and express your experiences. Your story telling is simply immersive. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts.
Night passage poetry
Just what I needed right now... Thank you Christian!
I've only sailed at night twice. Both on the Columbia River but obe doesn't count because I motored. So, the one time I actually sailed at night was nothing short of magical. There was just enough breeze to keep me moving, and I made my way to an anchorage near St Helens, OR. Even dropping the hook was a calming experience. Wanna get high? Sail at night.
Well at least I'm enlightened by the meanings of profundity, elegiac and ineffable...well written, I think! Must try sailing one day (night),
this video touches all the right keys. 🎹 thank you
I freaking love you Christian. You're a truly rare and special guy. A true old salt. Thank you for putting out videos. And please please PLEASE never stop putting out videos. I mean that. They never fail to inspire.
A new sailing video from one of the people i wish I could sail with. Thanks, Christian, from Seattle.
Great!!!!!!!!! Thank you for that, including the music. A small masterpiece , an synopsis of all sensual perceptions that sailing is all about!! This belongs to a much bigger audience. Just missing the deapest sensual perception a human has and cannot be provided in a video: Smelling and tasting ( the sea) - for that to complete your" feeling the ocean-beeing": there is only one way: Go out sailing , be at sea yourself.
Thanks for this. So good. Again, you seem to effortlessly articulate what I’ve felt for decades. You going to run another Hawaii trip this summer? I’d line up to buy you drinks at Hawaii Yacht Club 🤙🏻
I love the way you talk about the night, loneliness and the music. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and wisdom
On the contrary, how can jazz NOT go wonderfully with sailing? 🤷♂️
Asleep at my mooring in Monterey Harbor, I woke to that swishing flowing sound from my hull.. The boat underway!!! But how? It was a huge school of mackerel swimming by.. Poseidon the Joker again...
My favorite time to sail begins at dusk and goes into the night. Truly magical. You have a way of bringing back the joys of sailing, what a gift you have!
Absolutely marvelous! It's more important than ever to tune out the constant bombardment of media of all sorts, the drone of traffic, and listen to Mother Nature's call. There are many ways, simple and complex, to do it, but unless we find a way to truly appreciate and reconnect with her, we will have destroyed all our opportunities! The way you tell it, Christian, I can see the spectacular track of the Milky Way, feel the night breeze in my face, and hear the serenade from the rigging to the waves! With much appreciation for your philosophy and your poetry!
Ok christian! my boat has splashed at last.....when the summer gives way to autumn and the leave change, and or floating vessel of transfiguration is again on the hard; I will go to Amazon...and order your books. Spending the winter with word reminding me why we were out on the water. I may just put on a some Monk....or Davis.....and let the deep night set in until we sail again.
Boating @ night is borderline madness-- a bit like dedicating one's life to music; smile.
Thank you Christian , another great video. Night sailing, Jazz: Wonderful.
Every time i notice a new video of yours it lifts my spirits. They are all wonderful
Hemingway could have wrote your dialogue.
Really well done.
When I was in the Navy, I used to sit out on the weather deck in the middle of the night while at sea. I've never seen so many stars. I miss those nights.
That was very very nice. Thank you.
The bluewater poet laureate ... Thank you.
Your videos are always a pleasure.
I love your insight and viewpoints of sailing and being one with nature and the water.
My old pandemic friend
Such a plain & great thing, sailing at night, but so eloquently told....... all the best Richard
You do speak,,,,,,poetry
I can totally relate. I sailed a 4 night passage across the Caribbean last year. I wrote my story but…. your descriptions are far better than my fumbling story telling.
So poetic - so wise. Thank you for sharing once again...
Pairing a surprise Christian Williams video with a cup of coffee - a fine way to start my day. Thank you!
First I thought you were a blistering lunatic… 2 videos in (the Hawaii crossing on repeat) I realize it will take me another 20 years to build up your genius skilled life experience and knowledge. I’m deeply a fan, thank you for your videos. Hope our paths will cross in the future, may the sailing gods be with you, best Rasmus
I agree, night sailing is a different world from daytime sailing, and all sailors should partake.
I spent six years in the USN, a little over four of them riding a Sprucan and doing a lot of counter drug ops in the Caribbean. I loved laying out on the flight deck on a clear night, the only lights from the stars and the moon since we were at darken ship. The panoply of celestial bodies, so clear in the sky, were breathtakingly beautiful. Gazing up at the vast infinity I could not help but wonder about the mystery of it all and conclude that we simply cannot be alone in the Universe.
love your story telling
Thank you.
your videos always touches the hart and mind of a sailer. Yes those night sails ,the stories and confessions..... Thank you Christian.
Mr Williams, your content is delightful. It is inspirational!
This is a fantastic video ! Thanks Mr. Williams, I enjoyed it very much.
Just beautiful...
Hello Mr Williams, I live in the UK and I’m 61 years old and I just discovered your videos. Absolutely love them. How are you trying to simplify things while sailing keep up the good work
Love your videos and your philosophy and the way you put your thoughts and feelings into words!
You are a master Chris! Thanks for sharing these video with us. It helps us a lot to inspire and understand what it is possible to achieve.
Just letting you know you have a new fan out here. Your videos are like poetry and are appreciated as such. I’m also an old jazz fan, sailing enthusiast, and LA native. But now I’m living in landlocked North Idaho with fresh water lakes and plans to get a trailerable trimaran for day sailing. Your videos are nostalgic and comforting. Comforting because I love sailing, even the virtual kind. Nostalgic because I have fond memories of Marina del Rey and Newport Beach from the 60s and 70s. So long my sailing friend. Looking forward to more virtual sailing with you.
Fantastic!!! One of my favorite things - sailing at night.
I think you mean auditory hallucinations? there pretty normal but apparently older people can experience them more, I've even occasionally heard them and I'm only 18 lol
Yes, "aural." Use UA-cam Closed Captions --the [cc] button--for subtitles.
@@ChristianWilliamsYachting that makes more sense, I heard oral
Saxophonist Steve Lacy mastered playing Monk's music moved on, so you might check out his music with trombonist Roswell Rudd and pianist Mal Waldron tunes like "morning joy", "cliches", "the rent" and some of poet Robert Creely's work combined with Steve Lacy's band. Here is a sample: ua-cam.com/video/X8IcWhTKzQo/v-deo.html
Another great video, bringing back memories of my sailing days. But you do it, between your video, music, and narrative, as Poetry of the Sea. Well done, as always. Thanks for sharing.
Ah, one of those perfect marriages of living vicariously through Mr. Williams after having played hookie all day from work (ssshhhhh - we are compatriots here, right?) while whittling away at my old CoVID justified purchase - Catalina 22…a lesson learned “fixer - upper.” Thank you, sir. Today I was working a little out of my element trying to remove a keel…by myself and….was a little disheartened. The perfect remedy afterwards - A quiet evening alone…a steak dinner and of course some Christian Williams sailing jazz. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
Mid-watch! That's when the stories DO come out. My bro captained a shrimp boat, in the Gulf of Mexico, for many years. A crew of 3 usually. You listen to the "bottom of people's souls", he would tell me. 2-3 wks out at a time, relying on each other. Thank you, Christian for reminding me of HIS words, from Long Ago.
Fair winds.
Great post my friend. You have a Wonderful sense of Style. Stay strong, free, happy and healthy ✨️ 🌞🌴⛵
Sometimes jazz has a harmony or rhythm we do not understand, but it sounds beautiful together....just like the sounds of a boat at night.
What make and size if your boat? It’s very nice and perfect size for 1-2 people.
I've decided I want to die on a sailboat in the middle of the south Pacific...
Thank you Mr Williams.
That was rhapsodic!
I just bought a 43 feet sailing boat and now I am watching this video..if this is not a miracle what it is..incredible video thank you
Very nice video as usual Christian, you have this ability to transport us, well me, in a different world for a few moments .
Thank you.
When Is the real star of the show coming back? Your daughter. Encore the fox
Christian - thanks for another great video! That snippet of Steel Pulse in there reminded me of my great friend and sailor Richard Gigele. I sure miss him.
I think I used to sail at night but never knew it. Thanks for your clear expressions.
Fantastic video. A true Christian Williams. I love your stile, man.
Ahhh Fellini and monk - perfect just perfect
So close yet so far I often find myself waiting in anticipation waiting waiting waiting
You are what the new generation calls the GOAT 🔥🔥🔥
Very interesting hearing of your interpretation of not seeing. I have hated night passages because I can't see. But thinking of it as the way a blind person lives, and other senses are enhanced is a great approach.
Just fascinating. Thank you!
Flying over Biscayne Bay at night on a Hobie Cat, intense bioluminescence lighting up the spray and wakes, fifty years ago and nobody forgets.
Fantastic vids. Love your insights and experience
Lets not forget the bioluminescent trails from the dolphins as they torpeedo towards your bow.
After watching this im going to do a night sail on lake Huron this summer. Just to enjoy the darkness and see it with my ears.
Yes! Another video from my favorite sailing channel.
also, very true when staring over the sandbags into the inky black night
Been there. Zero light pollution makes for a truely awesome starscape. I gawked at it from the center of a ringmount at 45mph.
Appreciate your commentary and efforts. :)
I've never sailed but I've jazzed once or twice
A master piece in your video stories. Thank you

My father died when I was 11. Thanks for filing a few gaps.

You always put out such great videos
Awesome post, Sir, Bravo!
Your videos are pretty cool
Hi Christian / long time fan of the Channel . . .. I have two Hawaii Voyages under my belt / Oahu 1990 / Maui 2004 reaching out today to ask if you may have some insights into the "SailOMat" org . . some friends here in the Sierra Nevada were we live will be setting our on a year long voyage to Central America / My contribution was you must have a wind vane system of some kind . . . our SailOMat system was flawless even in big rough confused seas/ I installed and adjusted myself so comfortable with recommending that system . . I recall in 2004 it was pretty hard at that time to make contact with the company / I told the crew not to give up hope . . . my blue water passages are behind me / but was wondering since your still in the mix if you have any insights how to find a new or used system . . thanks for your skill / wit / insights and adventures Mahalo
Sailomat out of business, alas. Comparisons here: ua-cam.com/video/RXbXWW7ixOk/v-deo.html and here: ua-cam.com/video/u-RJ4p4c4KY/v-deo.html
