It took me 3 years to mourn the tragic loss of my own son. And thank god this song made its way to my ears and the process began. I remember watching the news when Claptons son died and remember how awful that was. The song brought tears to my eyes thinking of my own children. 12 years later I found out how deep this song reaches and just how strong one has to be to face the experience. This song asks all the questions that the sense of never ever again bring to mind. Great review 👍
I’m so sorry for your loss 😢
Sorry for your loss. It's so heart breaking to lose a child. It's not supposed to happen.❤
Jeff Beck just died recently, he and Johnny Depp were playing together at the time. Eric Clapton wrote this song for his very young son who was playing and fell to his death through a window in their apartment. Eric pretty much stopped living...he was devastated. He also write an interesting song called, "Holy Mother", which he did with Pavarotti
one of my song choices
at my dads funeral
my mom passed away when
i was 15 years old
This song is about the survival of the soul even in the hardest of times. Loved your reaction. I'm crying right now. It's not a weakness.
So cool to see ya'll young kids discovering the real deal music from back in our day. ❤😊
Yes the Yardbirds had Clapton, Page and Beck. All three are master guitarists. They played at a skill level that so many never reached. Each shined so bright that all 3 of them needed their own spotlight.
That was nicely put
Some also played with the legendary John Mayall and the Blues Breakers. He launched dozens of Blues artists and still puts out albums (almost one a year for 50 years).
I vividly remember when he lost his son, so tragic. This song brings me to tears, so beautiful yet sad.
Sending you a hug 😢 so sorry to hear about your grandmother. Take care
Clapton is currently the only person inducted into the RnR Hall of Fame 3 times [Yardbirds, Cream and then his solo work].
Wonderful Tonight is also a beautiful song by Eric Clapton that is highly recommended
Clapton is the only person to be nominated into rock and roll hall of fame 3 times. He is also in the blues hall of fame. Yardbirds, John Mayall & the Blues Breakers, Bonnie, Delaney and Friends, Cream, Blind Faith, Derek and the Dominos, numerous Beatles songs and other top tier artist's songs and if they wasn't enough he released 24 solo albums. There will never be another like him.
Yes there’s a documentary on Eric Clapton. It’s excellent.
I grew up listening to Eric Clapton. The last concert Stevie Ray Vaughan (my personal all time favorite) played was with Eric Clapton. 3 members of Clapton’s crew were killed along w SRV. Such a tragedy and loss!!! For a few hours rumors were that Clapton was on board that helicopter. And this song makes me think of my mother and daddy💔💔
Gee, didn't know that, about who else was on board. I DO know that mick jagger cried when he heard, having been excited about getting srv (the goat, let's face it :) to open for the Stones.
Derek and the Dominoes - Eric and Dwayne Allman (of the Allman Bros Band). Produced on of they most iconic rock song - Layla.
You did fine...there are some things you cannot prepare for....we knew it was coming but was touching to watch you discover this. just keep being You brother
Thank you brother!
It's a beautiful tribute to his son. I'm sure that writing it helped him heal somewhat. It's gut-wrenching for sure but still a magnificent song.
eric clapton - old love (live) is clapton on guitar that is scary elite. subjectively, he's probably my favorite all time. the beatles actually thought about him joining. condolences on your grandmother. grieving loss is a living hell
He really has experienced tragedy in his life. So glad these things didn't destroy him as a person.
RIP Connor
I saw him live in the mid 2000's. It was such an experience. The blues, the jazz, the rock... you get everything when you see Clapton.
Thank you, Dad, for that gift to go to the concert with my sister.
Edit: Clapton was in Cream. That was my mom's first concert with my dad. 😅
I seen in 2005 in Seattle. One of the best concerts I’ve ever been to!
Eric Clapton was a friend of the Bee Gees and talked them into moving to the U.S
to jump start their careers back in the day. 😁
Not quite, Robert Stigwood used the profits he made from Cream to fund the Bee Gees - Clapton famously confronted Stigwood [in a drunken way] in a 1979 documentary that was never released in full but clips of it are available.
He's from the UK.
This is written for his little boy. I'll never forget hearing about his little boys tragic accident. He was 4 I believe when he fell out a 53rd story window. Eric Clapton is the one that told the Bee Gees about the recording studio in Miami Florida.
He fell from the 53rd story
Clapton deserves to have a biofilm.
Jeff beck was a very good guitar player and he just died recently.
Clapton left the Yardbirds before Jimmy Page joined. Beck replaced Clapton and then his childhood friend, Page joined. That band produced three of the greatest guitarists of all time! Enjoying watching you undertaking your musical journey. Love your enthusiasm, your musical leanings, and your insight!
Treat yourself to Claptons "Layla" .. it's officially listed as performed by Derek and the Dominos but Derek is Eric Clapton
My Grandma(who was the person closet to me) passed in 1988 and not a day goes by i dont think of her and shed a tear. Unfortunately i cant go to her gravesite because shes buried in Louisiana and im in Nebraska but she will forever be in my heart
I think of my husband. He died 8 years ago unexpectedly. Tomorrow is our 47th anniversary & Monday, June 5th, is his Birthday. Love from Oklahoma 🤍
Hey brother, I think we're all with you because you articulate in complete mastery. And, that being the case, you hit every nail on the head with your reactions and analysis. May God bless your soul at every turn brother.
It honestly seems like yesterday when this happened and it was in the early 90s. Every death of a child is heartbreaking, but this one is a picture I can’t get out of my head whenever I hear it. I can’t listen to this song without that horrifying memory.
Icon and legend, Eric Clapton will tell you that the late great, Stevie Ray Vaughn is one of the most gifted guitarists he had ever heard and whom ever lived.
I was working with a rock band when the news broke that Eric’s four year old son fell through and open window in the high-rise they were living in N.Y. at that time. Being a dad myself I was crushed and my heart went out to Eric and his wife for having lost their son. I was so traumatized at hearing the news that I couldn’t do anything, but weep. I was imagining how I would have reacted after losing my son, let alone, in that way.
You will see your loved ones again, and be with your grandmother who is with you in spirit. The pain we feel when we lose them is crushing because we are humans and we love deeply, but we will feel this love again when we return home one day, when we have been through this beautiful and sometimes heart-wrenshing experience that is life on earth. All my love, from Perth, Australia.
I appreciate your honest response. More authentic and empathetic than all the tear-jerker clickbait music reactions. When people feel, honestly, that is what fans of art like to see.
He wrote this song after his young son was tragically killed. It is a very sad song, indeed.
He died in an accident so saying he was killed is kind of wrong.
I understand that his son fell out of a window 😢
The song is 100% about his son but he wrote it for a movie called Rush.
My dad passed away 15 years ago..and I still cry every single time I go to his resting place. To me, that shows how much you loved and respected your grandmother. That doesn’t stop because they are gone.
This will tear Up Your Heart !!! Horrible way to Lose Your Beautiful Child . God Bless All who have Lost a Child ,of any age.... 💖💯✌️✨🙏✨✌️💖I think of My Son.........
MMBxMOB 💌and 🤗I deeply understand and respect your reaction 🤗Thank you
My ex-husband actually to play saxophone in studio for Eric Clapton and also another band member of Eric Clapton's band Cream and his name was Dwayne Bailey he started a side band called private parts which my ex-husband played in for a while but of course that was just a hobby for doing Bailey he's stuck with Eric Clapton through everything. So I've been extremely lucky to meet a lot of the musicians back then cuz I'm 59 now been so blessed to meet so many people even band members from Kiss kids we were all staying at the same motel at one point that was an interesting evening I'll leave that right where it is
Clapron has had a great solo career, he has also been in a few bands, I would recommend Cream -Sunshine of Your Love, a supergroup he use to be part of.
Music with a meaning hits so much harder. It's every parent's worst fear. I have nightmares about this and don't know how people could carry on. Not sure I could.
I think of my older brother who went to heaven when he was just five passing from leukemia, I was 4. Very sad indeed.
Clapton is the O.G. Guitar God. He has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame more times than anyone else, with The Yardbirds, Cream, and as a solo artist. While with Derrick and the Dominos, he wrote his classic hit, "Layla", about Patty Boyd, George Harrison's ex wife. He also played lead guitar on The Beatles, "While My Guitar Gently Weeps." It is a great idea to listen to the original Layla and then his unplugged version back to back. They sound like two different songs.
RUSH is a great movie. Clayton's song Wonderful Tonight is another beautiful song
He wrote this for his son, Conor who died tragically .. Conor, Clapton's four-year-old son, fell 53 stories from a New York City apartment on January 13, 2005. Conor was killed when he fell from a window that was accidentally left open as he leaned out of a window on the 53rd floor, Clapton wasn't there at the time and as you know, as a dad you're expect to be the protector of your kids, it hit him hard.
Conor Clapton fell 49 stories to his death on March 20, 1991. It was one of those things that leaves you thinking “I’ll always remember where I was, and what I was doing when this happened” moments. I was in Chicago waiting to board a plane…
@@mikimarkusen4108 😔 I was broken hearted for him and his wife, I should imagine it would kind of haunt you something like that.
1991
To make things worse, the lock was broken and (edit: the tenant) had reported it to the landlord several times in the month prior.
@@myboatforacarit wasn’t Clapton’s apartment.
Can I suggest the song Eric just put out for the passing of his friend Jeff Beck? It's a video of the two legends playing Moon River together.
I am a big metal head so I guitar players, Clapton was amazing.
I used to asked my self what he means with “Cause i know I don’t belong here in heaven” until i lived similar experience, an all can say, it is the way to express guilty for what happened and not deserve being in heaven with his son. But God really loves to heal the heart broken people with wonderful special ways
The way you said, "his four-year old son", broke me. 😢
I saw Slow Hand (Clapton) in Phoenix 1985. It was a relaxed out door venue. It rang through the desert. This song is about a son that was tragically lost at a very young age.
Heaven is our hope.
i hear you.. my mom passed away when i was 15 years old and my dad 10 years ago.. one of my song choices at my dads funeral
I think of my dad when I hear this song.
I think about my mom❤ 3 years ago yesterday
Clapton, aka Slow Hand. Master guitarist and song writer. Him and Ozzy teamed up to do a song called One of Those Days. Two icons together. Maybe check it out. Clapton started with a band called Cream back in the 70s. He went on to have a monster solo career.
Eric's son fell from a balcony at the age of about 4 to 5 years old and died tragically. Eric wrote the so g for his son.
I lost my son to brain cancer 10 years ago. This song is very cathartic. A father's grief from one Eric to another. Not sure why this has come back up for reaction vids recently.
Great story from Paul McCartney is that when Jimi Hendrix was playing a bunch of these musicians went to see this new guitarist. But in Hendrix style, his guitar string stretching would put it out of tune. Hendrix asked for Clapton to come up and tune his guitar. Clapton put his hand up to block his face and hid from Hendrix as a joke.
My oldest child was killed by a hit and run driver as she was trying to help someone who was injured in a car accident, At the same time my youngest daughter had stage 4 cancer and my husband had severe problems from a heart attack the previous year. I think of this song often.
Such an eloquent message to his son.
My sister's first born daughter Mykala. She passed away 28 years ago from heart complications. She had open heart surgery at 16 days old but she passed away the following day
The yard birds were kind of the development band of the British rock music.
Here are some of his amazing performances to check it out
Nothing but the blues Concert- Groaning the blues, five long years, have you ever loved a woman, driftin, it hurts me too
24 nights Concert - edge of darkness, Old love, layla, White room, bad love
Concert for George - While my guitar gently weeps
One more car one more ride - Bell Bottom Blues River of tears, Reptile, have you ever loved a woman, Badge
2004 Crossroads fest - I shot the sherriff, Cause we’ve ended with Jeff Beck, Cocaine and Layla
With Steve Winwood - Little Wing, Voodoo Chile, Forever Man, Can’t find my way home, Presence of the Lord
He has played and made records with BB King.
Jeff Beck went on to form the Jeff Beck Group…and was (RIP) a brilliant guitarist!
Tears are not a measurement of how much you loved your grandmother...don't ever feel bad or let someone else make you feel bad because of that 😢❤
Eric also had a band in the 70's called Eric Clapton and his band. I saw them in concert in Hawaii. Yvonne Ellerman was in that group. She played Mary Magdalena in the movie Jesus Christ Super Star.
Since you’re into Home Free, Austin Brown does a cover that’s beautiful. Of course Clapton’s rendition is special for a bigger reason. I remember this day and the horror I felt. I can’t imagine.
Life in 12 bars. Is the naMe of the film you want to watch. The biography
Also look at his relationship with #GeorgeHarrison and eventually George's wife #PattiBoyd. She is the subject of some special songs #Layla, #WonderfulTonight, #Something (in the way she moves)... etc.
The passing of a loved one is enough to make the strongest man cry.
Legend 👌
I like the version that just has clapton
He's not just a Legend. He's the only person to not only be inducted in to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame once, not twice but three times. Noone else holds that honor. Once with his early band The Yardbirds, once with the legendary band Cream and once as a solo artist.
You are insightful
He was also in Derek And The Dominoes with Duane Allman and a group of some of the best musicians around. They recorded one album Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs. Killer album!!
RIP Granny!!
Layla is a classic 👌
😊❤
As you were reading, i was hoping you'd get to the fact he wrote this song after his little son died, in NYC. THAT would have had you crying straight off, before a chord!
Eric Clapton is responsible for reaching out to Barry Gibb and convincing The Bee Gees to move to Miami and record in the studio he used
You need to do Lincoln Park "Leave Out All the Rest"
This song, like many others…Is so important for Reactors to know the background of. I just don’t understand why reactors don’t have to “want” to know about the music they’re discovering.
Rush is a great movie. Its about an undercover narcotics officer that gets sucked into the life. This song was perfect for the movie. The director was a close friend of Claptons and had him write the song as a way to deal with his son's loss.
Layla. Forever Man. Wonderful Tonight. While my guitar gently weeps (on guitar for The Beatles 1968)
Dude I love your channel and your videos. You are so open and honest in your reactions. I always hit like button and then post comments. Want to do whatever I can to get you more followers.
I lost 2 babies while they were only 3 months old in my womb! I think of them and I can't wait to get to Heaven and meet them and see my late husband again along with my parents and grandparents! I believe the most beautiful songs have come from great grief or great love!!!
😢🙏
RIP Baby Conor 💔😢
You’re exactly who Kevin Bridges was talking about
Virtually every girl cries when hearing this song; about 1/2 the men do too.
It’s because you can hear the pain in his guitar and his voice.
want some more on the emotional rollercoaster? Go for Mike & the Mechanics "the Living Years" That will do your head in too. All great musicians not comparable to todays music.
Sad story. Little guy falls out a highrise window opened by the house cleaner to hit the roof of another highrise building, I eas devasted to him.
I think about his son. I remember when it happened. After his son's death, Eric received a letter from his son that was mailed a few days before his death. Too sad. I hate that this video shows scenes from the movie and not just Eric singing and playing the guitar.
Dive into Eric Clapton. He is wonderful.
Probably the polar opposite of this song for Clapton would be the great live performance of "Tearin' Us Apart" at the Knebworth festival, 1990. That song is just fun. This man is an amazing musician. I see from searching your channel you've sampled him a little now. He has produced incredible music for decades, so I encourage you to continue the exploration.
It's a good movie.
This song makes me cry every time I hear it. My first wife and I really wanted to start a family and we were so excited when my wife was pregnant. It was not to be. my wife had a miscarriage as well as 2 more over as many years. I am always wondering what those 3 children would be doing now as adults.
I know the reaction medium has been killed with all the official music channels on UA-cam being blocked/removed, but I have to make suggestions anyway. My first thought after watching this -
On the subject of tragic or semi-tragic songs that maintain their dignity and manage to be genuinely affecting...
Has this guy ever heard:
(a) Any King's Shilling by Elvis Costello (it's from the album Spike)
(b) Beeswing by Richard Thompson (it's from the album Mirror Blue)
(c) Child With The Ghost by Gary Numan (it's from the album Berserker)
💔💔💔💔💔💔🙏
Is not more pain like to bury your child!! It's against the natural rules!
Hang in there bruh. You will learn to live with your grandmother's death. You want ever get over it. Just being honest my friend. Hang in there. Love ya bruh
Did you know why it's called Tears in Heaven right? If not check it out he lost his only son at a hotel he was staying at in Texas is that the windows opened they were on a top floor and there was a small little balcony type thing that wasn't really a balcony and it was so old and rusted when his child went out the window check it out his mother turned her back from merely a moment and their son was gone😢
Eric Clapton. Layla is great
