This is a second game in a trilogy. The last will be called "Automobiles".
ZING
Fourth one will be called "Automobiles," third will be called "And"
Badum tss.
This comment made it worth the 5 minutes of my life I wasted skimming through the review!
I say let's play Planes at the Airport during a flight delay :)
I couldn't see some of the movement explanation because you were using your arm closest to (facing) the camera. I probably would've been able to see what you were doing better if you were using your arm away from the camera (in this video anyway)
Well, it is the second album so to speak.
Though I have to disagree with Tom's opinion, I enjoyed it quite a bit. It's a bit thinky though you really have to pay attention to your cards, that's what gives you points and pokes you in one direction or another. I can understand the complaint about analysis paralysis, though my group doesn't tend to have too much of that (or maybe we are just more patient with each other.)
Still, it's a valid opinion.
BAGGAGE CAROUSEL: THE GAME BY AEG
It would be so hard for me not to tear the ticket!
That's also not thematic as plane tickets aren't perforated.
Christopher Smith Tom probably said ticket when he meant "boarding pass." A lot airlines still issue the perforated ones...
If I bought a game called Planes I'd expect to be flying planes, not stuff people into them.
It looks like it was also somewhat inspired by the baggage carousel.
If I wanted to get a new game based on mancala it looks like I would be buying five tribes.
I'll Take Theseus, The Dark Orbit
I don't think I've ever agreed with Tom more.
Marvelous judgment :)
I thought of a sort of redesign for this. Instead of humans in an airport, why not make it planes? Here's my idea:
* The pieces are planes trying to land at an airport (runways). Bad weather is the theme for "missing the runway" (not landing).
* Use plane pieces that have a changing marker, such as a "fixed" D6 (IE only moves when you move it). Every "lap" around the airport burns fuel. 6 > 5 > 4 and so on. If you get to 1 you have to emergency land no matter what at a runway, and lose points if not your colour.
* The cards then would be individual decks, and have things like "forced to avoid hailstorm - move a group of planes 3 spaces forward". You could use this for your own planes to get ahead, or your opponents planes to make them burn fuel.
.... Something like that anyhow.
Call me weird...but I *love* hanging out at the airport. What is cooler than aircraft? :-)
Greg Heilers Liquid Nitrogen.
This game seems kind of lame. They missed out on this one. I'd think I'd rather play just plain old Mancala, actually.
Most uninspiring theme ever. The game looks ok otherwise.
They copied the box from TRAINS, the mechanisms from FIVE TRIBES and still failed to make it good. A Shame, the theme could be done better I think...
You mean the mechanism from Mancala...
They sure as heck did not copy the mechanism from Five Tribes. This is Mancala.
