- This is this one : Parsons also surfed a 64-foot wave during competition at the Jaws break on the north shore of Maui.
It was filmed by helicopter and used as the opening scene of the 2003 film Billabong Odyssey.

The photographer in that helicoptor was no amateur. The scene was very well filmed, especially after the wave broke, showing Mike Parsons in the lower right corner with the wave crashing down behind him. I've seen a lot of surf movies since I started surfing in 1963. This is probably the most spectacular big wave ride ever filmed, owing to the quality of photography. I hate to compare one surfer (or musician, etc) to another. This was a great filming accomplishment.
I remember seeing this for the first time 11 years ago. I keep coming back. This is glued in my memory.
Reef Raider same pinch !!! I just love the amazing background music ! ❤️
for about 20 seconds it looked like he was just on a mountain. thats probably the coolest thing ive ever seen
I just watched this like 20 times, what a moment for Mike Parsons. Perfect, monumental, beautiful!
Wow! Thats one of the most amazing things I've ever seen. That guys sick
This is crazy!!
This gives me a really good feeling
Can’t watch this piece of clip enough it is awesome! “IT WAS UNREAL”!!!
A perfect alliance of picture and sound. The track matches the atmosphere per-fect-ly. This is bliss!
I get chills watching that wave build up behind him...if I did something like that I could die happy.
This wave was 66ft or 64ft. Now the record
is 70ft, Pete Cabrinha in 2004. But I think
this ride of Mike Parson is incredible, because
his ride started from the top of a huge wave.
Notice how he leans over and drags his hand in the water to help turn the surfboard to the right? It's incredible seeing that kind of maneuver on a 50-plus foot wave. This was a demonstration of skill and judgment, not just of courage. As for adrenaline, Mike Parsons mentioned that in the narrative. But adrenaline is something that you want to control. Too much adrenaline can make things worse, like in an argument or fist fight or when you've had too much caffeine.
Are you kidding me............Did you see how long it took to drop down that face.....HOLY COW!!!!
AWESOME, and the music, is PERFECT for this!!! Thanks for posting!!! :o)
They made this look like it was in a competition and being spectated when it wasnt at all
I love when the camera zooms out, and we see how high that wave really is. Awesome!!!
This is bliss. Nothing tops this.
Goosebumps!! They're filming from a helicopter looking up!!!!!!!
not only is this the biggest wave ever ridden...but it also has the man with the biggest balls ever
Mike Parsons is the greatest Guiness book recordman. That´s totally behind the words
one of the most amazing videos ive ever seen
This gives me chills every damn time I watch it. Much like Laird's ride at the end of Riding Giants.
ok this is one of the coolest videos ever.
insane.
I've seen this at least 10 times. Can't get enough!! Thanks for posting!!
I don't much about surfing, but this is clearly EPIC.
I love Mike and Laird too..They rule the waves!!
absolutly unreal. i bet that was the ride of a lifetime
I still watching this in 2019
A tsunami is not a wave at all, that is why it is otherwise refered to as a tidal wave. A Tsuanami is where the tide rises in a few seconds, and stays there for some time. As the previous poster said, they don't have to be huge, just higher than the land defenses. If one were to surf on it, you would only get one chance right at the beginning, and then it would almost certainly be disapointing. This is a great video, I enjoyed it a great deal. Thanks for posting it.
Wicked Sick! 😎 Love the music too
That is amazing. He makes it look so easy!
Oh my gosh, this is absolutely freaking incredible, no words!! AWESOME!!
one of the greatest videos i have ever seen
It is nice to finally see the real story behind this vid.
Makes my heart soar!
My jaw was on the ground... the whole time this video was on.
what an amazing STRONG surfer to do this. I surfed 13-15 years old and I couldnt handle anything bigger than a five foot wave
When you see him come out of that mist at 1:18 it's totally epic and astounding!. I thought the crash of the wave wiped him out for sure! Maybe the greatest surfing footage ever captured.
Thats so amazing i watch it again and again O_o
I don't even think I could imagine anything that'll give you more of a buzz! That was increadible!I bet his hamstrings were killing after tho lol
Simply beautiful.
the greatest surf video ever
damn....that's tight coming down the wave the smell of the ocean breeze right in your face...dang...5 stars
i agree man, probably the best clip on youtube..no shit.
so much respect for these guys
Mike didn't get shacked, he got MANSIONED!
oh, my god, if i could see a wave like that even if no one was riding it, i could die happy.
wow he's riding on the mother nature wave, i'll take that as a gain of life^_^
basically the most epic thing that ever happened.
zomg.... this is amazing. the power of the ocean is intense
@MrBradyiscool ... I think they are referring to the fact that this was the final wave in the surfing contest that was taking place.
The 'Mind Heist' song substitution works well for this video!
I can't believe I did this. It was such an awesome ride.
alex is a liver don’t listen ok
Lied
Yes, that's incredible!
hero of the first order, this makes me curl up inside like a small nothingness.

this sign means that they will be toasting a lot these day with a lot of tasty ass damn weed
@Naganiet200 Well, it seems that the slow motion shows with great level of detail how outstanding was this ride.

@geeiwonder The BEST possible description! I saw this video for the first time a few months ago and as the wave got higher, my eye got bigger and my jaw dropped lower on to the floor. I still get goose bumps watching this. Yes indeed... Mike Parsons made it his bitch!
@OkayKristof it is a competition its the mavericks and its spectated live
Wow that is amazing. The forces of nature being conquered.
What a monster. Dude that's fucking amazing!
that must be like once in a life opportunity for a surfer...any surfer
@seaswag02 - I took my son to see this film at our local cinema in cornwall- absolutely beautiful and scary - and thankyou to the five surfers in front of us that provided the smell of the ocean
Mike Parsons exclusive interview
Surfing - Tuesday October 26 2004
Big wave rider Mike Parsons takes time out from the 60-footers to answer YOUR questions
Q - Katie Spain: What is your most memorable surfing experience?
Parsons: Oh that'll be the wave at Jaws. It's the wave you see me surfing in the beginning of the film Billabong Odyssey. That was a 64 foot wave and, well just watch it, you'll see why it was my most memorable surfing experience.
@myno1fan3 yeah, this is from wedding crashes 2 - out this summer
Like pitting a mouse against a grizzly bear. The mouse can run away, but the grizzly bear will bring down it's massive claws on it eventually. Still an awesome video.
Amazing
it's hard to believe anybody did anything remotely like this
holy shit that was awesome
I was so fucking hoping that at 1:43 he would just appear still on the board haha.
Still fucking epic though.
I nominate this dude for President of Planet Earth...no question...
amazing
This thing looks like it can wipe out Hollywood Florida entirely e_e
I'm kinda scared now. This guy is amazing!
@bcrich1689 I'm guessing you're confusing this spot (Jaws - Maui) with the spots where Parsons had a couple other notable rides (Cortes - ~100 miles off California coast). It's hard to believe, but the waves he rode at Cortes were larger than this, and in one case quite a bit larger. Crazy stuff.
id cry the whole way down.
You are right. I understand the new record.
The wave itself was much higher, I think.
But as far as I suppose from the film, it is far from the best catch of the wave. I think in the present film Mike Parson caught the best pinpoint of the wave.
This isn't surfing, this is a religious experience.
i surfed 243 ft high wave on the lake near my cottage =). then i went to sauna. it was pretty cool =).
muy buen video... buena idea para arranc ar de un maremoto
parsons owned mother nature..hands down
Awesome
sin palabras....que impresionante, ni el flaco se cree lo que hizo
Epic!
i would kill for a moment like that
I'll bet that Patrick Swayze would be proud of this. Remember Point Break?
My names this guy and i like to ride on tsunamis, pretty chill.
Eso es una ola, si señor, y eso es surfearla,
awesome
Great wave, thats for sure. But is there a vid from another angle? There must have been a cam on the beach?!
