On the note fo changes from LOTR book to screen. My favourite change that PJ made was the nature of Aragorns character. In the books he is much more confident and keen for the crown, but in the movie we see a more honorable and humble approach to Aragorn. He has a deep understanding of his own mortal nature and is fearful of making the same mistakes as his forebears, but goes on to demonstate incredible valour in order to proect the world from evil. A much more interesting character than we see in the books, and a character I try to model my own morals after. Namárië.

Real interesting POV here - makes a ton of sense. PJ did LOTR a huge service

Being a writer is an attractive quality! Then add some actual income…oh my 😂
Awesome episode guys! Such an interesting discussion! Movies these days are defs flopping, I rarely see one that I’m excited enough for to watch at the cinema. Usually wait for it to come onto the streaming sites but then forget 😅 more time for reading I guess!

Favorite Era of Films: 90’s. You got Shawshank, Forrest Gump, Titanic, The Green Mile, Saving Private Ryan, Schindlers List, Jurassic Park, A Few Good Men, Philadelphia, Silence of the Lambs. I mean the list goes on

Great podcast guys! The reason Henry Cavill left the Witcher is because the writers weren’t following the source material that he was very passionate about. For example he read all the books and played the games.

Ah, that makes sense. Henry Cavill is the man, love his passion

I'm thinking the writers have become they're own yes men. WOT for example, wasn't someone in the room telling them that they need to cut the dead warder episode? They dropped the ball on everything, unable to explain anything about the world in a competent way

It bogools my mind, just how much those productions of tv shows/movies are FUCKED. Imagine being a writer and saying to the camera "I didn't know what to do with the second act" or someone saying about you "This is our writer, he writes as we go". And we talk about projects that cost 200+ mln dolars.

Time is a very important point - I audition for TV, and most of the writing is happening AS the show is shooting, with re-writes up to the very morning of the shooting day, and the majority of it almost mere placeholder, making it the actor's job to make the dialogue work (with one rehearsal 30 seconds before rolling). This includes shows like Star Trek where I've essentially had to re-write an entire scene in order to make it consonant with character and the universe and the show (I didn't book the part, alas). Part of this is hiring practices, but most of this is turn around time - everything is too fast, and quantity is being prioritized over quality.

100% agree that the quality of shows have stagnated especially on Netflix. Marvel has collapsed since Avengers Endgame. There has not been a great show on Netflix since Stranger Things.

Oh also A24 “has a lot of heart” because they don’t have anything to do with the production, just the distribution. (most of the time)

I like yalls point on needing time to make the world and characters real.
I would argue game of thrones is not a fantasy book it's a political drama.
Game of thrones started to suck when it started being more epic fantasy lol

Hollywood is so far behind in AI They probably should just agree to the writers demands and get back to work. AI production will be taken forward by Silicon Valley startups and foreign production companies which are already way ahead. They can agree not to make AI product and simply buy a completed international AI product from Europe or the UK reducing what they need to produce themselves. Seriously people this train has already left the station.

Hip shot opinion. Writers need to step up there game and be more faithful to source material instead of trying to pedal propaganda or preach to us. I don't care as much about new movies that are coming from Hollywood and I hope this strike shaves off the writers pushing propaganda in their movies. (I get it's probably actually the producers but what ever)
