I think it can depend on the piece and what it’s trying to accomplish. Not all art needs to be inherently beautiful, especially when beauty is entirely subjective. Visual media can be like a strong metaphor and even if you don’t immediately get it, the work might reinforce your understanding in retrospect, after having investigated further into the message/topic. That being said, I wholeheartedly agree that there are many people with sticks up their asses in the art world and sometimes a brother just wants something pretty to look at
This is the first time I’ve EVER not skipped through a displate ad. You guys really are the best. Also, would like to mention that your pod/videos reignited my love for fantasy (and even reading regularly as a whole). Keep up the good work friends ❤
Richard’s answer about the afterlife was so incredible to me! He is the first person I have personally seen having the same belief around God as me all the points he brought up have been things that I have considered and analyzed through my life. It was great to see that there are others who have similar beliefs and thoughts to me.
0:46:27 Oh man, I completely agree with Richard. I mourn the day I finish the Discworld series. I want to read them all obviously, but it’s sad I’ve outlived Terry and he can’t give us any more tales from that beautiful world. I have to savor them
I work while listening! But also around 30mins in you both talked about Robin Hobb and YES she’s an absolute amazing author and her prose is so captivating and I would consider nearly on par with Tolkien she is up there.
Can't wait for Austin's personality test! The productive thing I did when you said to leave and do something with my life was read Stormlight Archive. I'm currently on book 2.
Speaking of vacations/holidays. I think you two should come to Cambridge in England. I work at the Tea Room in The Cambridge University Library and it so surreal walking through the halls there. Love to meet fellow geeks and I’m now becoming a big fan of you guys. You two are so chaotic and fun to watch. 😂
The question regarding exploring topics- I went on a deep dive obsessive tangent on all the references in the book Piranesi and that’s how I found this channel and now I’m here to stay 😂
@@2ToRambleBrandon's White Sand Omnibus is pretty good I believe. It might also be fun to see Richard review the Eye of the World graphic novel. It was the first WoT thing I tried to read, and I DNFed on like the third page.
I listened whilst crafting, hope that counts! I did the 16 Personalities test years ago, it’s really interesting even if it’s been disproved. I’m a INFJ which is one of the rarest ones apparently. I like to think of myself as an endangered species 😂. Austin, you’re in the hot seat next…
I did this quiz about a year ago and got the same personality as Richard. I don’t know whether to feel flattered or insulted lol (jk I love you Richard)
I knew it!been listening to this pod nonstop at work for a coulple ofweeks and As an INTP-A myself i knew within 1 minute that Richard was as well lol. Ive been into mbti for a while and couldn’t believe when i saw the titel of todays video and wasn’t dissapointed with it. Now you have to do one for Austin and my guess is Enfp/Esfp Also INTP is the same type as Brandon Sanderson and many succesfull authors even though it is a rare type
I just KNEW that would be his MBTI result hahaha. That was what I got when I first took the test years ago, now I am an INFJ. I tell people it's because I've become nicer over time... reading made me more empathetic, lol
I'm sorry, you guys are too much fun to stop now. I was kind of annoyed with myself watching UA-cam while I wanted to read Elantris...but then you said this and I was. Okay let's make this a conscious choice. Sticking around. ;) Also, completely not bookish but very fun video!
Here’s one of my favourite quotes from David foster Wallace the author of a book called infinite jest H]ere's something else that's weird but true: in the day-to day trenches of adult life, there is actually no such thing as atheism. There is no such thing as not worshipping. Everybody worships. The only choice we get is what to worship. And the compelling reason for maybe choosing some sort of god or spiritual-type thing to worship [...] is that pretty much anything else you worship will eat you alive. If you worship money and things, if they are where you tap real meaning in life, then you will never have enough, never feel you have enough. It's the truth. Worship your own body and beauty and sexual allure and you will always feel ugly, and when time and age start showing, you will die a million deaths before they finally plant you. On one level, we all know this stuff already - it's been codified as myths, proverbs, clichés, bromides, epigrams, parables: the skeleton of every great story. The trick is keeping the truth up front in daily consciousness."
Since Richard loves arguing and questioning the ideas of a God I’d suggest he watches the debate between Doctor William Laine Craig and Christopher Hitchens on whether there is a God

Richard is the exact person that I would expect to want to learn to play Picollo.
😂😂
"If I NEED words to enjoy a painting...painting failed." Agreed.

"You acknowledge the funny in your head" I my new favorite quote ever
Let's go! Another juicy 2 hour special to kick Monday off right!
🤓👊
Richard is a particularly interesting specimen to dissect.
I refuse to leave and do other stuff. I actually listen to you guys while I do weightlifting.
52:31 Jokes on you guys I listen to you at work (a lot of repetitive manual tasks sometimes) so I am productive AND entertained 😂
Gooood!
Great episode, do y’all ever plan on doing another “judging our readers lines” would love to participate!
We have our next competition set - it’s not a first lines competition, but we may do that again since people seemed to enjoy it!

This whole laughter conversation... Are we sure Richard is human? 😂

already thought Richard was my best friend but its gonna be nice to get to know you better

Wonderful! You are in for a treat. Imma keep an eye out for your comment on our book 2 review.
I took the test when the video started too and I'm INTP-A as well. That's funny
🤝
I think this is a sign to go to bed... but I will be back tomorrow to watch the rest!
Best Displate ad ever 😂

Ahh thank you! Always wanted to go to Cambridge 🥂
@@2ToRamble I expect to see you two here sometime then. 😂
The Santorini story was amazing 😂
After that sponsor segment we need more Austin and Richard silent films!
😁

Oh hell yes - glad you found us. Great tangent you went on 🤝
Have you guys done a video on Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn? I see it on your shelf and it's my favorite fantasy series so I'd love to hear your thoughts.
We havent yet! I (austin) havent read it yet so definitely my fault/lack of reading for that
Is the lightbringer review coming soon?
We both are starting this week
Best podcast out here
Ah damn thank you!
Fun listen! You all ever plan on doing graphic novel talks?
We havent - you have any recs?

Rich since you were in a funk band w weird people and I was in a punk bank w weird people, I propose we start a pfunk duo

Omg that’s a crazy coincidence. He got the exact same personality type as me. 😂
So that means I’d probably hate you too 😂
As a logician who searches for deeper meaning, I’ve read between the lines and I appreciate your compliment 😁

After hearing richard talk about the type of crying that makes him uncomfortable, i realize hed hate my girlfriend 😂
😂😭
I might have missed it but what is Richard’s song for poker?
(austin here) - It’s this jazz song that consistently has the lyrics “get on up” and it’s great whatever it is lol
That’s amazing!! 🤌🏼🤌🏼🤌🏼 thanks for the reply
What kind of music do you guys listen to?
Such a medley - Richard is a big fan of jazz

I am being productive I’m learning how to not be like Richard! Jkjkjk
🤌
I’m also INTP Richard. Maybe that’s why I like you more than Austin. 😂, don’t worry Austin, I like your taste in books more and you’re cool.
Ill take it 😂
I gotta know, what is Richard's song?
It’s a jazz song that repeats the line “Get on up,” - Ill have to ask Richsrd for the exact title if that doesnt ring a bell
Why thank you very much, good sir@@2ToRamble
Did you end up finding it with my horrible explanation?@@froogy747
Is it Get On Up by The Esquires?@@2ToRamble
@@froogy747 i think its Get Up by James Brown!

It’s by far one of the best theist versus atheist debates since both of them are very respected in their fields
I'll give it a look. Thanks!
I don't know if you would consider this doing something meaningful but I took a long walk outside while listening to the podcast.
That is absolutely meaningful. Great job! It's amazing how great for the soul it is to walk outside. It's also amazing how most people neglect it.
this was some weird ass content lol
