- I visited the famous town of Nuwara Eliya other known as 'little england' with my friend @worldnomac , first we went to a market in the middle of the city and went on a hunt for some inexpensive clothes. The market sellers were very nice and I think I got a reasonable deal on the items. Let me know what you think!

Generally, the cut labels are authentic branded ones made for export orders- but came to local market from backdoor.
Some items are purposely damaged (a small punch hole etc.), which are samples or rejected items from export. (This is what I heard)

4:28 here the guy is telling the truth. Few of the world renowned clothing brands manufacture their clothing in srilankan factories. So all the products that doesn't pass quality inspections (defects like small color changes, logo alignment issues etc.) Comes to the local markets really cheap. Sometimes these defects can't even get recognized to the naked eye but the product is genuine.
But still the 6000 price is too high i think.
For locals it'll be around 3000-4000 lkr. So you paid a fair price.

That's genuine North Face. They are manufactured in Sri Lanka and exported to Europe. The labels are cut so they cant get sued.

According to the current situation in country, T-shirts in Sri Lanka which lies around 1200-2000. So, Jersey prices are higher more than tshirt in price due to the material. So, RS 2800 is a good local price. Even that Jersey, real or fake, it’s value for money.Look like a genuine seller.

I’ve been to that market. Those are real branded ones rejected from the factory and meant to be destroyed. That’s why they cut the label to sell. You’ve got a great price. You bargain better than me. LOL. I’m a Sri Lankan. Really enjoying your content.
Sri lanka makes and exports a lot of branded cloths
Seconds (these are made for exports but doesn't pass strict Quality control) fall into the local market

This scenario is completely real. Sri Lanka is one of the worlds biggest apparel exporter. All the top clothing brands like Nike, North face and Under Armour are getting their clothes done in Sri Lankan garments just like how Apple company uses Chinese factories to produce iPhone
So the slightest of alignment issues in the logo. Any small stitching issues would drop the price by a huge margin and would enter into the local markets. So they are original. But there are copies too. It depends on the quality

The seller was indeed speaking the truth. He phoned his boss and was asking him what the last price was for the north face jacket. You could literally hear him speaking to him in Tamil language. 2800 for that jacket is a splendid offer. That could easily cost 5k + in one of the shops in Colombo.

Levis, Victoria Secret, Tommy Hilfiger, Nike all original clothing are making in Sri Lanka. Then the cloths that do not pass the QA test come into the local market with a huge price gap. But more than 6000 price is too much. You bought exactly the best one and it suits. And its not fake.

The last day, on my way to the airport, the strap broke, I just find out that the label said made in China!

結果我在去機場路上，整個背帶斷掉，才發現標籤是寫中國！我在中國購物時也常被當地人欺騙，我就當作是在幫助他們！
For your information
Most of the world's famous clothing brands factories are in Srilanka. Srilanka s second most forgin income earner is garments exports to USA & EUROPE. Due to pandemic garment export and tourism industry was badly hit. That's why the Srilankan economy is limping at the moment.
Most products manufactured did not reached the final destination during the lock downs.

The rule is if the label is cut then that is a authentic branded item. Those are mostly factory rejects or they are out of fashion(meaning they have stopped making it and those are the leftover stocks.). Not only in sri Lanka. Here where I live also that is the rule. - if the item is original remove the label unless it is sold in the proper shop.(H&M/Marks n Spencer...etc)

Sri Lanka is a country that exports garments with a good finish. You can see it online. Most of the clothes sold in Sri Lanka are from European countries. Clothing with minor damage, clothing with very little damage such as a seam or seal will not be exported. Such clothes are rarely sold in the local market. But that brand name has been removed. The reason is that even if they are made in Sri Lanka, they are sewn to a high standard and it is forbidden to sell them even in a country like Sri Lanka. Labels must be removed if sold. He is telling true harry.Sri Lankan tea as well as Sri Lankan clothing is very popular abroad. You can check.But there is also a fake market

Warm clothes are sold in Nuwara Eliya because it’s cooler country.. The temperature drops to 6 to 3 degrees at night.. we are slowly entering warm days but it still is comparatively cold at night.
Most of the branded clothes are made in Sri Lanka. So the ones which get rejected from the factories end up in markets like this. Some of them are actually not fake. The real deal. But with a small defect.
People have already explained to you that they're not fake products, so let me explain something else: they're selling warm clothes because Nuwara Eliya is cold for Sri Lankans! It's mild weather when compared to cold countries but even in your videos, I've seen locals wearing thick coats with hoods when you're wearing thin clothes 🤣
It doesn't snow in Nuwara Eliya though. I remember it snowed once a few years ago, and it made the news!

Jacket you purchased is genuine! Price is also very reasonable. Its export rejects or excess production. So basically you have got a good bargain.
These are all real. Stitched for export market. Factory rejects.
After taking off the lables. they are allowe to sell in the local market. But only a small percentage . All these famous brands you can get on the markets as well as on the payments sellers .During festive seasons. Warm clothes best brands are very cheap here. Because Srilankans don't need those. Expatriate Srilankans when visit homes during holidays they buy a lot to take to the cold countries they are residing.

You will come to know how cheap here. The T-shirt he was wearing has cost him 100 odd € in Germany. He found the same for less than rs 2000 here.

Garment factories aren’t supposed to release the QC failed garments to local market
However their are ways always these gets under the table deals to local markets.
There can be a unnoticeable for regular peeps like us but Quality fails according to the brand buyers.

Hey Harry nice video as always man. Before I moved to Canada I bought some jackets from this place. And while my hometown is Nuwara Eliya I paid little more than what you paid for the same jacket as a local. So you got a pretty good deal on that jacket. And I can verify that jacket you bought is not fake. They are real export items made in Sri Lanka that did not pass QC. And I can say from the experience , I have used those in Canada under extreme cold weather and those survived absolutely fine. Even better than the once I bought in Canada from premium outlet legit stores paying 100s of dollars. So I can say that was a pretty good deal man

It is true that rejected items from original brands reach this place. But you have to be an expert to select that, We visit this place every holiday when we go to Sri Lanka and it is a thrill to see the marketing abilities and tricks of these traders. there was a time was full of foreigners and branded products that have gone now. Sri Lankan all over the country come to this market to buy this kind of clothes for them this is one unique place. if you buy your jacket (original) from Sydney it would be around AU$ 125( about 18500.00 )SL Rupees So you have won as per the quality you feel, Good luck and enjoy the tour.

Two ways to know if your getting something real and getting the best price. Some cloths will have a serial number on the tag which you can Google, you can also use Google lens app which will show you the price. Doesn’t work on all products but try out the lens forsure
There’s a huge textile market, and a lot of clothes will be overruns from orders to big labels or sometimes have the wrong labels on, but are made in the same factories, some will be seconds. Not all the labels will be for the west some are for the Far East like Japan, Taiwan etc. just go for what you like and what looks good. They cut the labels so they cannot be sold as originals even if they are. You are in Nuwara Eliya which can get very cold and which locals also visit, and stay on holiday so they sell clothes to locals as well. You should not try and drive too hard a bargain as the margins for profit are actually quite small. Once they have dropped the original price then their profit is in jeopardy. Be kind, they are not living the high life on what they sell you! Some of the most beautiful things I saw there last time were tops for girls made out of the kind of really expensive pretty cotton fabrics but for top Japanese luxury markets. They also were making polo shits for many major brands, super quality too.

Bro I got the same one for $4,500rp in Nuwera ellia.. Open price was $7,000rp.. i managed to bargain.. that was 3years ago.. but its worth the price. I knew It's a foreigner price.. Not sure whether it's original or not.. very goood quality nice to wear n very comfortable. I'm still happy with it..
If the tags in the collars are cut off the garments are original its not fake. Most the branded and leading apparel factories are in srilanka so the rejects are sold in bulks to the small vendors. Even in dacca and india its the same. The factories are actually supposed to dispose of tge rejects but instead they sell it off.. But if the tags are not cut off the relevant companies files suit against the factory owners. And if its made in srilanka its definitely original.6500 is way way too much.. But 2800 was a good deal
Harry if you find any cut labels that means it is the original brand. Levis,CK etc.... Currently I live in Australia and I find all theses brands with label as made in Sri Lanka and trust me it is expensive here... So yeah factory outlets are the most affordable ones and you won't be able to find where that garment is defected 😉
Harry that jacket looks good and suits you , the seller shouldn’t really be telling you ins and out of this industry , in these countries where these brands are actually made ,China, Nepal, Pakistan, Bangladesh & India sometimes there’s surplus stock and labels have to come off before they are sold in those countries as it can affect world markets however apart from the brand outlets where they sell them at same rates which can be found around the world so that is why it it so cheap to keep the world markets afloat and stock selling .. you probably got the real deal

Those are originals if they have some minor defects they cut the labels and sell it to local market for cheap price. It’s called factory out t shirts or shorts.

If that item is truly a item which failed Quality test, which is very common in Sri Lanka local market,. It's fair to pay like 5000 or so.

It’s not fake. It’s good price for a good quality cloths. Most good brand cloths are made in Sri Lanka. But not allowed to sell to local market. It’s real with a small defect in sawing you can’t even see the defect, it’s like the sawing had become bit out of line in just one place. Defective ones are release to local makers. They can’t sell with the label on so they cut it, before releasing to local market.

I'm not a Northface expert but for that model if it says Gore - Tex on the sleeve it's probably real. They usually go for 40 usd, here in the US. For it to be maybe an older model could be the price difference. Hyvent is the newest models. So just keep that in mind.

Harry those jackets are all genuine real ones ,but those are export rejects for some minor production errors. So they will cut the label and sell. They cannot sell it in the local market. Its only for export.

All these clothes are genuine. The only problem is that the labels are cut because they are rejects with very small defects. The price is a bit too high though. The jacket that you got was a very good price.

If the guys were truthful about what they said on items made in Sri Lanka for famous brand name companies of the world such as North Face they may be right. Due to minor imperfections items are rejected for export by the manufacturer’s quality control system. There are many factories in Sri Lanka where poor people, mostly young women work for a pittance sewing these garments for many companies in Europe and the United States. If Sri Lanka factory owners do not manufacture goods to the high standard the brand name companies expect they will lose their contract and wtll have to close their factories.. Therefore clothing with minor imperfections are not exported or destroyed but sold in the local markets for locals. with the label cut off. However there are also cheap imitation imports to Sri Lanka too from nearby countries such as China that carry fake brand names. If you were happy with the quality I guess that’s all that matters. .

That is a good price for the jacket. Probably three times more in Europe. Bargaining without being aggressive gets good results..
