- One of a few videos I have for bass drum technique, but the exercises in here are very specific to the Bonham Zeppelin 1968-1970 era bass drum stylings.

I don't play drums, but I could watch these all day for some reason.
Matt Ordiway same but I'm going to play drums
You are so funny, and I love how you get personal with your subs during the vids, like you have known us for 5 years. I feel comfortable with your teachings. You got your self a new sub
you are borderline nuts but very talented and make a great teacher
Tom rizzo manic...he's very manic
Borderline???

I was a little skeptical the first time I saw bonzoleom lessons but I eventually became a big fan...really usefull....nice explanations....thanx
I've been using this technique ever since
I started, and I never knew that's what he did
Thanks for this,I’ve been struggling with this technique for years...gonna lower my seat to 17” and give it a shot!

Love the comments you make throughout the video about your life that adds humor, I was dying when you said you got your ass kicked by your sensei hahah, great video man
Love the vid! thanks for all the wisdom; please keep it coming!
Always love your stuff!
I dig it man!! I'll be spending days and hours apon hours on this now until I get it perfect!! Thanks for sharing!!
I LIKE THE WAY YOU TEACHING DRUM MAN! SO HILARIOUS
Super helpful stuff Terry thanks again!
Great Instructions...Helped me A lot..Thank you.
Big fan here. Also, hilariously entertaining.
That's a great instructional video on the Bonzo kick technique. Thank you!
Thank you, TD!
So many guys who idolize like Peart Bozzio, or whomever, seem to miss the pure archetypal beauty of Bonzo,,, pity.
A thousand likes from Germany 😃
Will see what my foot will say 😂
Keep on groovin 👍👍👍👍
+Lorenzo Gerola Thank you from Chicago, Lorenzo!
Love your channel, I'm all about the Led.
YES!!!!
Great tutorial!! Thank you.
awesome teacher very well explained
another awesome instructional video . I love all your stuff , thanks man. Hey Chris B where's your drum video ?
thank you very much, very helpful technique
iam suprised how many things i can learn from You keep recording!
I got all my foot technique from one song Good Times Bad Times. Everything is in that one song. Interestingly one of my warm up routines was hi hat 2 bass drum strikes to the rhythm of 1 and a and snare on 4 just for fun. I thought I was the only one to do that. One of my others was triplets with accents on the cymbals. Nice foot technique. I do not play drums so much these days but I do play the odd jam session and I still have the same foot technique so I think muscle memory means it is ingrained. I used to put towels in my bass drum. Definitely took me much longer than a week. I had an old Pearl pedal from the early 90's and it was a dream to play this sort of foot technique. Very little feel to extreme drumming. Dave Lombardo is an exception as he seems to understand groove. At the end that was reminiscent of Am I Evil by Diamond Head
Just incredible.
There is something about this guy that makes me watch him all day ???
Wow that's a short pedal ,good exercise thanks for your time.
Thanks Joe!
Well Done~! I have 7 high end pedals, DW Pearl with 3 cams. They all just needed more 'work' than my old Speed King. I bought a new one and I am amazed how much less force it takes to smack HARD and speedy. I guess the light weight and simplicity of a hidden spring inside each leg works better than DW, Pearl etc.. The old one has 12 years of gigs but it never once failed me~! Less is more for me anyway.
Hey thank so much this video helped so much for me
love your vids
I also tried that technique by myself, I discovered it alone but the problem is that you can't control the speed, and you are always locked in one tempo,it is very quick tempo but when you play linear kick drum paterns it's impossible to slow it down... Bouncing leg is hard to control in linear slow rhythm
this is a great video , i have a prob of playing flat footed so this is helpful
another great video. thanks for showing us your foot. rock on.
thank you!!! very helpful!!!
Your kick drum inching forward is triggering my OCD real hard! :D
You make me smile.
thx man, awesome
I'm going to switch to this technique. I used to play more with my whole leg/ knee and could only play fast doubles but no fast triples or quads. I hope I'll get it down quick with the same power I used to have.
It's a lot easier with shoes though, used to play with socks.
You recommend any shoes and pedal settings that would make this easier?
DA BEARS lol awesome video.Shout out from New Orleans
I love the camco pedal. I am trying to find a camco pedal for myself.
Check out Tama's HP30, pretty similar to the Camco he's using.
...a peanut. Like Mr. Peanut.
Love your videos! Do you recommend doing just double bass on 16th and 8th notes til you get pretty smooth than adding hands later?
Yes-'isolating the parts' is extremely effective.
thanks for that!!!
Nice dude
awesome
Being open minded like this will open full machinery thing to go on .... best wishes man!!!
Thank you, Dejan!
Love this guy hahaha
I have that same pedal it was my dads. Best pedal out there! IMO
This is my favorite lesson you've done. I've never played a Speed King, but thoes early 80's Camcos are great. I'd take a DW 9000 over one...but, I'd sell it, and buy 8 Camco's ;)
Thanks Todd! Yes, those Camco's are THE BEST.
Totally instructional and hilarious at the same time. Thanks 1M bpmEd
Is there a better/certain year model of speed king to look for,?
Many drummers have been able to come close to imitating John Bonham. But no one can come close to playing like Barrimore Barlow of Jethro Tull, who Bonham, ( a good friend of his) called the "greatest drummer Great Britain ever produced." Have a listen and try to play the Jethro Tull album 'Thick as a Brick.' None of the drummers that followed Barrie after he left Tull ever came close. Jason Bonham said Barrie was a bigger influence than his own dad.
Bonham was better. and so was Bill Ward, Mitch Mitchell, and Ian Paice.
I have always thought he was playing it from the heel and I've struggled a bit to match it. This sounds more like it.
Im great at playing doubles but i play beater down, i feel i have more power playing doubles beater down than beater up
They say, "practice, practice, practice", right?.... I say to you, sir... "spurs, spurs, spurs!"... LOL
Bonham was a HUGE inspiration for me and my style... thanks for the vid! :D
How many speedballs did you shoot before you shot this??
Hi....do you like to bury the beater, or bring it off the head?
Hi, do you think the triplets are easier if burying the beater? I see you mostly bury and rest it there between notes. I am trying to let the beater bounce back off for a fuller sound. This seems harder for the "Bonham triplet" stuff..thanks
bonham certainly didnt, the other thing is i worry about keeping the left foot going, im sure he can do it, but terry isnt keeping time with the left foot whilst demonstrating this, which is really important
what if you are more of flat heeled style player? my nest drum instructors taught me how to play without raising your heel.
that drum would move less with the dw9000. Have you worked with the Tama Iron Cobras?
there shit, buy a pair of iron cobras or a jojo mayer perfect balance
Do you ever experience any pain in the ball of your foot?
Like your vid. Playing/practicing slow is key to control and muscle memory. And I agree that Bonham is organic in his sense of time and tempo. Wanna speedking?
I would like a totorial on drums for out on the tiles
hahaha.. Of all people. You'd think you'd own a Speed-king.
Do you keep your pedal at a pretty high tension?
No. If 10 is super tight then mine is a 6 or so.
bonzoleum cool thanks for the reply!
I had that Camco pedal.
I learned this technique on my own
hi, what is the name which the equipment do you play?
+Андрей Карчев Hello Андрей Карчев! The drums here are a late 70s Ludwig set and the cymbal's all Paiste. I also use an old model Tama bass drum pedal.
+bonzoleum, no, I asked about the technique)
It's typically just called 'heel up' technique.
I'm looking for a cheap inexpensive drum set what do you suggest
sam gleason It's hard to find a poorly built one. I'd say first look used on Craigslist. Then eyeball all the companies mid-lower line new stuff. You can get a great shell pack for 5-6 hundred bucks these days.
pearl export 2013
Fame DD-5200 E-Drums
It works great and has good quality for beginners and i got it last day
Sonor 503. So good
YUP! You are right on the money! Exactly the way i learned and on a Speed King! I have to find an old Speed King again!
l use the back hills fixed on pavement and move just the top of feet.
Mr salty lmfao !!!! Thats my new nickname I’m stealing this !!! Its salty babe mr salty 😂😂😂😂
Bravo can You reccomend some video where u use it but like one man say nobody can break Your good will i feel u great person; You know sometimes life teach u hard lessons but till u standing u are winner hope to be friends on face Josip Burjan have nice day
+Josip Burjan I use this technique in every video I play (if that's what you mean).
Thank you for the comment, Josip!
I think that we owe a big round of applause to our newest, bestest buddy and big toe...bonzoleum
"Other videos are too long" 22 mins :P great video though
I think that bass drum moved forward about a foot..
Totally wanted to see his foot.. yay! :D XD lol
Bonham did wear filas
😂😂😂 this guy is the best
I think Bonham played barefoot, but not sure.I seem to remember seeing a few pictures of him playing like that.....I may be wrong.
You're fucking crazy! Hahaha.
Sub and like!
;)
Mr peanut!
that bass drum will be across the room by the end of video.
Stop that! You're giving me the leg cramps.
I dont have a fast twitch muscle fiber in my entire body!
Did this guy drink an entire case of redbull before making this?
Koni
I'm subbed to your channel now. marry me? 🙌🙌🙌🙌
This guy needs to cut back on crank!
I don't think you got it quite right. Pretty sure this guy keeps his head legit . Most likely 4 Ritalin pills mixed with Red Bull and good to go. That's not a problem? He did mention ADH kind of drummer. If he needs it to focus ...not a problem there. Plus this guys got enough followers to start his own religion. :) He must be doing something right.
injectionspeed or possibly he's selling his monthly script to all his dedicated followers. Still not a problem unless he gets caught. He's lucky the only people that follow me around is usually a collection agency ...and that is a big problem 4 me.
Camco basspedals = Gene Hoglan
Your bassdrum is walking out the door.
Hey mr.send me if want request on face i will like be friend with You Josip Burjan
First of all, learn to tune like Bonham. Any drummer that wants his feet to be able to do anywhere near what his hands can do knows you don't bury the beater into the head. Strike and recoil, strike and recoil. The real challenge is learning how to play heals on the floor at all times. Lots of work and practice and most will not or cannot do it.
Eric Redlefsen I don't think he needs you to teach him
Heels on the floor is stupid as you don’t use the natural strength of your whole leg.
great lesson but you talk too much.
marc777danielle WAY TOO MUCH
marc777danielle For me, that's why his lessons are so great; he talks like I think, so it syncs perfectly...
marc777danielle this very fact makes this lesson so much funn !!!
marc777danielle You are an insipid creature, my friend. Perhaps I could suggest that you lower your volume to zero while viewing his videos and listen through your ESP talents.
Kevin Kiso you friggin, pseudointellectual clown. I hate when a moron learns a new word and thinks they're the smartest one in the room. Go read a dictionary and find out what the word insipid actually means before you use it. You just called me boring, dummy.
John Bonham would have laughed at you. He did what he did. You need to go and do what you do!!!
Did you know the man? You don't think Bonzo emulated drummers he admired? … if you think that, Bonzo would have laughed at you!!
Lol what a bitch
No me gusto
