Your company needs to get their windshield replaced. Safelite will replace the windshield and bill the company's insurance. It's very unsafe to drive around with a cracked windshield
Thank you for your content! To help those who are wondering why the conflict monitor didn't trip I would like to offer an explanation. The conflict monitor only checks for voltage. Those burnt out red Leds had voltage. Therefore, the conflict monitor was satisfied - no red fail. It is also possible that the Leds still presented a load on the circuit but not emitting any light. This would explain why the monitor did not trip on dual indication fault. Normally, an open circuit will still have voltage when the load switch is turned off. This is due to leakage voltage (from the triacs) and would be suppressed if a load is present. I would say the monitor is good. The red circuit still had a load on it even though the Leds would not illuminate. Or, dual indication was disabled in the monitor for this channel.
I'm wondering if the intersection or cabinet got hit by lightning while the street was in red burning them out. I figure it's pretty unheard of for all the red signals to just go out at the same time. While at the same time it would create issues with the conflict monitor or cabinet. I don't work on traffic signals I've mainly started diagnosing issues at a logistics warehouse with PLCs or VFDs when they act up. Power surges xan create some weird issues if it goes past the conditioner.
Your windshield is not only a dot violation its also a state and local violation you can be fined and if the dot spot you your truck will be forced out of service and towed back to your yard and youll have a large amount of fines and worse yet the dot will do a full inspection on your truck which will be like a fine tooth comb im surprised that the company or city you work for dont seem to pay much attention to pretrip inspections also your bucket trucks should be equiped with flashing amber lights and an arrow board especially if your in the middle of the road changing out leds . your boss needs to read the national safety standards manual .
Would have liked to seen more of what you were actually doing beyond pointing. Being dark doesn’t help but it is what it is. Broken windshield doesn’t say much for the company or how they treat their trucks and employees. Just saying as a 30 year commercial driver. Like your videos and find them interesting. How common is it that 4 of the same LEDs would go bad like that? I'm not a signal tech like yourself but thinking all of those just happened to go bad would not have been my first thought. Ideas on what caused that? And yes, love the longer form videos!
They are all tied to the same phase and must of taken a power surge while they were red causing all the reds to pop. To answer you though very uncommon! I’m glad you enjoy the videos!!
I'm a traffic signal enthusiast with my own home setup. There's a couple of things in this video that happened to me personally. In my cabinet, I had a load switch go bad which caused the reds on one phase to go dark. I also waited for the conflict monitor to kick in and throw my signals into flash. It did not. That led me to wonder that in this situation that it would be worth checking the load switches on the phase with the reds that are out. Fortunately in my case, I had a spare load switch in which I changed it out to make the reds work again. As for the intersection not being thrown into flash for having reds out, I've learned that some cabinets are not set up to detect a red indication outage. My own cabinet wasn't set up that way. It really does surprise me that the powers that be would wait that long for 4 LEDs to go out to make a service call especially when the intersection had 4 dead red LEDs.
So all four of these reds were tied to the same phase, phase 04 it took a hit during a recent storm and the power surge took out the 4 LEDs and the load switch!
I would have placed the bad load switch back into the phase 4 position to verify that the conflict monitor would indeed place the signal into flash. Since I believe you said you left the original CMU in there, I would make sure it was not affected either....

I always wonder are the green strobes on your car are standart in the us, i like it😊. Are there different colors for different Services? In Switzerland we have only Blue (Police/Ambulance/Firetrucks) and orange for Warning things 😊

Detector cards that he shows in the video have sensitivity settings. They can be increased or decreased. The size of loop that is cut in the road also influences how good it detects. Its a balance between these two for optimal detection
People in downtown St. Louis are so desperate for copper wires. Now they’re starting to strip the copper wires out of those big tin metal boxes for the stop lights as well as stealing the copper wire for the normal street lights and the fire hydrants
