    I love that you guys make these videos. More industries need to take notes from the espresso channels like yours and SCG. You guys dont just make videos saying "BUY THIS!" You guys make videos on average consumer stuff like dialing in grinders, setup, unboxing, and troubleshooting.

    Got this machine 2 weeks ago as a first espresso machine after using a Jura E8 and it’s fantastic, makes delicious espresso based drinks and really nice americano too! I paired it with a eureka stark grinder

    Instructions state to rinse 700ml from water wand, 500 ml from group head and 3x30 sec steam sprays. Why was only the group head rinsed and not the other two spouts?

    Thanks very much for this walkthrough. I set up my machine this morning and am looking forward to dialing in some better shots. Maintenance recommendations online are all over the place. I make 1 to 2 double shots per day, mostly for lattes. If I plan to backflush with Cafiza once per week, clean the steam wand in dish detergent once per week, empty the boilers once per week, and descale every two months, does that seem reasonable?

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  4 місяці тому +1

      Hi stephen, You can back flush at anytime using plain water with no Cafiza. Some do that daily but everry 10 shots or so is fine. I'd limit backflushing with Cafiza to every 100-150 shots. It's more a thing with E61 group machines, but it is possible to over clean a machine and remove internal lubrication. For the steam wand, be sure and purge with water right after steaming milk. If you wipe it down quickly you'll get less baked on milk. There are products for removing baked on milk like Rinza: www.wholelattelove.com/products/urnex-rinza-milk-frother-cleaner-32-oz Standard detergents have a hard time with baked on milk. Emptying the boilers weekly is not needed (but will not hurt anything) unless the machine has been idle for an extended period. If you take very little water out of the steam boiler then turning over a cup or two every few days does stop minerals from accumulating in the boiler. Your machine likely came with a BWT Bestsave in-reservoir pad filter: www.wholelattelove.com/products/bwt-bestsave-s-anti-scale-filter If you use that as directed and replace on schedule you should not need to descale the machine. Manufacturers generally advise against end users descaling dual boiler machines as it requires special procedure to totally fill a steam boiler with descaling solution. So best course is to use properly filtered water to prevent scale in the first place. So long as your source water does not have edge case water quality issues the Bestsave pad filter has you covered.
      Hope that helps!

    Can you explain in more detail the function of “automatic wake up”. Also please explain the note in the instructions “automatic wake up must be set each time you need it”

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  8 місяців тому

      Hi bruce, For automatic wake up you set a time in hours from the current time you want the machine to turn on. So if it is 9pm when you set and you want the machine to turn on at 7am the following day you would set to 10. Yes, auto wake up must be set each time you want to use it - it's only in effect for 1 day.

    Does the bwt best save stay in the reservoir continuously or just for the first 8 hrs with initial set up? I’m using filtered water from the fridge to fill the reservoir

    Can we use bottled drinking water in this machine? Our tap water is low quality.

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  3 місяці тому

      Hi G, Yes you can but know that mineral content of bottled water is all over the place depending on brand. Do not use anything labeled Mineral or Alkaline water. For majority of standard bottled waters you should be fine. But, do use and continue to use the BWT Bestsave in-reservoir pad filter and replace as directed. Also be sure and run a few cups of water out of the steam boiler every few days of use to prevent minerals from concentrating there.

    Nice video guys, but why don't you use a milk temperature probe when steaming ?

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  5 місяців тому +1

      Hi there.
      While a milk temperature probe or pitcher thermometer is a great tool for someone either new to making milk drinks or someone looking to make their milk exactly the same temperature every time, someone with a long history of making drinks like Brian here can judge an approximate temperature by holding the pitcher with their hand. Typically, you have a good temperature for your milk once the pitcher becomes just about too hot to hold onto the side of it. Of course, temperature sensitivity in one's hands is something that is going to vary from person to person and not everyone wants their milk at exactly the same temperature but do it often enough and you will learn how hot you like it.

    Should I descale my Silvia Pro myself since the boilers are easy to clean?

    When dialing in your machine, do you count the soft infusion step (1-6sec) as part of your shot time? Or put another way, will adding soft infusion affect your shot time?

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  7 місяців тому

      Hi g, Thanks for the question. Typically I do not include pre-infusion time in total shot timing. But it's up to you. Shot timing is the most basic way of appraising shot quality and the times are really only relative to your setup so only truly useful for comparing shots produced on your equipment. Pro tip: Adding pre-infusion usually speeds up the rest of the extraction compared to same grind size/dose weight with no pre-infusion.

    Hi guys, really great video and helpful for me - I’ve now had my Silvia Pro X for about 3 months and living in London where the water is very hard, am concerned about scale build up in the boilers - what is the process for descaling? And what descaler would you use?

    • @timcannell6313
      @timcannell6313 2 місяці тому +1

      After a little research I was going to empty the boilers (F3&F4) and the tank, then fill the tank with descaling solution, let the boilers refill and leave overnight. Does that sound reasonable to you guys? Would very much appreciate your advice….

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  2 місяці тому +1

      Hi tc, Thanks for the question. Manufacturers recommend against home users descaling dual boiler machines. A couple of reasons... first it's risky. If there's scale in a boiler it can break up during descaling and not fully dissolve. Chunks of scale can then plug up other areas of the machine. Second issue is fully filling the steam producing boiler with descaler. The steam boiler has empty space (headroom) at the top of the boiler which never fully fills with water. Scale can form at the water air interface within the boiler. Since the boiler does not fully fill it can't be properly descaled or rinsed after descaling. There are ways around that like disabling the water level sensor in a steam boiler but those should only be done if one really knows what they're doing - read by a professional machine tech. There's a risk of damaging a machine if not done properly.
      Unless Rancilio has changed something the machine ships with a BWT Bestsave in-reservoir pad filter. When used as directed it prevents scale by reducing calcium level in the water. Best practice is to treat water used in the machine with that filter or other similar option to prevent scale in the first place.
      If you believe your machine has scale deposits I advise professional service.

    Third wave water or "perfect coffee water" if your going to make your water from disttillate water instead of filter ?

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  7 місяців тому

      Hi J, No guarantee some of those additives don't cause scale.

    Why did he say F03 and F04 is his favorite? SHould we be doing that a lot to keep the machine in working order? Or if people have to put it in storage or ship it in for repair thats something that should be done?

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  5 місяців тому

      Hi JC, Not needed to keep machine running well. But it does makes storage and shipping prep easy. It is a good idea to use some water from the steam boiler on regular basis. If you only ever take out steam, minerals eventually concentrate leading to higher risk of scale forming. You don't need to turn over much. Just a cup or so every other use is enough.

    How would you compare this to the Lelit Mara X and which one would you choose?

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  6 місяців тому +4

      Hey T, thanks for the question. One major difference: the Silvia Pro X is a dual boiler machine while the Mara X uses a heat exchange boiler. HX boilers tend to fluctuate in brew temperature a bit more than machines with a boiler dedicated only to brewing. Mara X has 3 temperature presets while the Silvia Pro X has degree by degree temp control so it's more precise. Pro X uses a ring group style boiler with the boiler mounted directly above the group head. It heats up quickly. The Mara X uses an E61 group with a large thermal mass so it takes longer to heat up and is more likely to be affected by ambient temps. The Mara X has 2 temp probes so can be set to prioritize brew temp accuracy or steaming performance. If you're doing mostly espresso or Americanos setting to brew temp priority is the way to go. Set to steam priority you'll likely need to do a flush before making espresso. That complicates the workflow if you're doing a lot of milk drinks. Personally I prefer the consistency and simplified work flow of a dual boiler machine. Hope that helps!

      steam is strong for only a few seconds and fades quickly. very disappointing, I own one. I switched to a single hole steam valve to be able to texture a larger amount of milk. I would not buy this machine again.
