    I love this and am thankful, how you thoroughly explain each area, to make it easily understood. I share helpful “ sites” with my grandchildren, now ages 3 & 6 . They love ‘ learning’ ..by watching. This will be the 5th ,for them to learn. They are fascinated by these, as I am too. Thank you so very much!

    Thank you for the explanation! I have another question though : I'm trying to understand why people keep advising to eat honey to "soothe" irritated vocal cords. Aren't the vocal cords protected by the epiglottis when we swallow? So how can honey be sooting them if it doesn't touch them?

    • @ayabassam466
      @ayabassam466 4 роки тому +8

      Work in Progress
      When we drink, the liquid does not wash directly over our vocal cords ,The water is absorbed by our stomachs and distributed around our bodies, to where it is needed. It could take around 30 minutes or more for water to reach our larynx and benefiting the voice

    I have a question. If the epiglottis stops food and water from going into the trachea when it's going down the throat, during coughing or regurgitation what stops the food coming back up from going into the trachea?

    Question. Can particles of food that get stuck in the throat or something after you swallow go down the trachea? Like does the epiglottis open up right after swallowing so like some particles of food that was stuck in your throat would be able to go down the wind pipe?

    As the epiglottis blocks the airway as we swallow to avoid chocking, is there any structure or stuff that stops air we breathe in from going down the esophagus?

    • @gram3482
      @gram3482 3 місяці тому

      See his other great video ua-cam.com/video/_Bb8V4IQORM/v-deo.html that shows that 'structure'.
      During swallowing the soft palette swings up to close off the nasal passage to keep swallowed stuff from going back up the nose, while the back of the tongue moves back and up to the hard palette to keep swallowed food from going back out the mouth.
      A third step is the epiglottis swinging down like a trap door to seal the windpipe to prevent food from going into the trachea/lungs.
      After the initial 'conscious' act of chewing and 'swallowing', the autonomic (reflex automatic process) takes over...

    Sir my baby is now 2 month old, she can't feed through her mouth since birth. Dr suspected she may have a H- type fistula but after done the broncheoscopy, they suggested she have pharangeal incoordination.It may take time to recover as that part is weak. Is that so?If yes then how long it will take to recover?(She is now taking her feed via NG tube).
    *She has no breathing problem
    *She never been choked or bluish.
    *Recently after taking feed, she get choked for a min and then recovered by own.

    Question 🙋🏻‍♀️
    While eating when the epiglottis closes down how do we breathe? Does epiglottis opens after food is pushed out? Is that every second with every breath?

    • @RickySlatton

    In June of 2020 I was eating sunflower seeds and swallowed a sliver of shell. The shell feels to be stuck in my throat near my sinuses because my right nasal passage is hard to breathe out of. Every doctor I’ve gone to don’t think there is anything wrong.
    Does anyone know of a scan that would show such an obstruction? I’ve had an MRI with and without contract, a sonogram of my throat and a nasal endoscopy to no avail.

    Thanks for this, but you didn't mention movement of soft palate/vallecula (?) - is that right please? My swallowing was wrecked by junior anaesthetists who really messed up & left my throat, neck & brain VERY injured. I hope ALL anaesthetists will learn how NOT to damage our swallowing/airways & wish they would tell us & everyone the truth when they do - in my case they lied & denied & covered-up and left my throat to become severely infected - I could have died but they didn't care, they only cared about themselves & their jobs/reputations. Please lass on how living with these injuries impacts us 24/7 plus the lies destroy our trust in the NHS/doctors. Thank you.

    I always wanted to find out why sometimes when we drink in a hurry we start to cough I really could not understand before now I see very clearly it’s the epiglottis flap that stops 🛑 ✋🏻 food from entering the airway.
    Similarly if for any reason the esophagus has perforations, the lungs could get filled with liquid and the patient might collapse. With a connective tissue disorder called Scleroderma this is common cause of death.
