Borders of the Oral Cavity Proper:
- Anterior and Lateral Border (Teeth, Gums)
- Superior Border: Hard Palate, Soft Palate
- Inferior Border: Mylohyoid, Digastric, Geniohyoid muscles, Tongue
- Posterior Border: Oropharyngeal Isthmus
Superior Border:
- Hard Palate (Palatum Durum)
- Soft Palate (Palatum Mollae)
Hard Palate (Palatum Durum)
- Anterior Part: Alveolar Processes of Maxilla
- Posterior Part: Horizontal Plate of palate bone
- Covered by Periosteum
- Covered by Mucus Membrane, contain Palatine Glands
- Incisive Papilla
- Palatine Raphe
- Transverse Palatine Folds
Soft Palate (Palatum Mollae)
- Velum Platinum - Free part of the backside of the palate
- Uvula (Uvula Palatina)
- Contain Muscle Tissue, Palatine Aponeurosis, Vasculature, Mucous Glands
Steps in swallowing Process
1. Tongue Blocks the Oral Cavity
2. Soft Palate Blocks the Nasal Cavity
3. Epiglottis Blocks the Larynx
Muscles of the Soft Palate:
- Muscle of the Uvula (Musculu Uvulae)
- Levator Veli Palatini (Musculus levator veli palatini)
- Tensor Veli Palatini (Musculus Tensor Veli Palatini)
- Palatoglossus Muscle (Musculus Palatoglossus)
- Palatopharyngeus Muscle (Musculus Palatopharyngeus)
Structures formed by the palatoglossal and palatopharyngeal muscles:
- Palatoglossal Arch (arcus Palatoglossus)
- Palatopharyngeal Arch (arcus palatopharyngeus)
- Palatine Tonsille (Tonsilla Palatina)
Inferior Border: Floor of the Oral Cavity:
- Mylohyoid Muscle
- Anterior Belly of Digastric Muscle
- Geniohyoid Muscle
Strucutes of the Tongue:
- Muscle Organ compromised of several muscles
- 3 parts of tongue: Apex, Body and Root of tongue
- Medial Sulcus (sulcus medianus)
- Terminal Sulcus (sulcus terminalis)
- Foramen Caecum of the tongue (foramen linguae)
- Lingual Tonsille (tonsilla lingualis)
- Right/Left Glossoepiglottic Folds (plica glossoepiglottica dectra et sinistra)
- Median Glossoepiglottic Fold (Plica Glossoepiglottica Mediana)
- Epiglottic Vallecula (valleculae epiglotticae)
- Frenulum of the tongue (frenulum linguae)
- Fibriated Folds (plica fimbriata)
- Sublingual Folds (Plica Sublingualis)

12:08 Are you by chance missing something there? When I "lick down" to roughly where the orange arror (Sublingual Folds) points, I can feel two pairs of.. loose, thin fleshy tendrils (best way I can describe them), positioned on both flanks.
I think one of mine may be inflamed, which i why I was trying to find out what they're called haha.
