    I can tell you for a fact, I happen to know the forest those casks were harvested from and that oak lied when it claimed it was a virgin.

    You are back with two of my favorites from Deanston - thanks! Great video! And they are BOTH great! Rachel, you can't be right every time! ;-) Well done, Jen! :-)

    As far as I remember, these 2 drams taste quite similar. For me, that means I'd get the guesswork wrong every time I tried them blind, side by side. I'm sure Rachel would have chosen differently a day later. But still, it was a lot of fun watching this because - as every whisky enthusiast knows - there's nothing like whisky when it comes to losing your trousers in a blind tasting. Can happen in the wink of an eye. So what I take away from this is that both drams are going to appeal to a broad range of whisky drinkers - with preferences varying from day to day. Many thanks to you both for posting this! Cheers.

    Also did this blind, and I prefer VO over 12, and VO is half the price of 12 here. Cheers to your Dad!🙂

    Both are fantastic. But the Virgin OAK is my summer favorite, it's so versatile and flavour forward, and a great value.

    Guessing is fun, but not how I determine skill. Being open to saying you enjoy a bottle, even after you guess and the reveal is a surprise, that's character for me. Fun review and I enjoy both. But I buy twice as much Virgin Oak so .... I guess that is my preference.

    Hi Rachel, hi Jen, wonderful entertaining and funny tastings. Blind tastings are always hard. Next time you will get it right, Rachel. Deanston is a wonderful whisky. I like the 12 but I had not the chance to try the Virgin Oak. Cheers from Germany

    I did a side by side blind tasting as well! For me it was easy to pick up the Virgin Oak because it has a very bourbony smell, and that's what I always notice. Nose on 12 is more honeyed and bit more complex I'd say. Tastewise I think I actually prefer Virgin Oak.
    Blind tastings are very entertaining to watch, and eye-opening for the ones who are in it. This video is a great example! You should do more of these, definitely.

      thanks for tuning in!! Well done for getting it right (I'm still a bit sore I didn't 🤣) but the virgin oak is much tastier than I remembered so definitely a worthwhile experiment! We'll definitely do more of these in the future :)

    "Often the most stupid people are the most certain!" my favourite quote. You are creating a new genre, whisky philosophical humour. Love it !!! I have a friend visiting Scotland, who asked me for a great whisky distillery tour / visitor centre. Any thoughts on that? Or would it be "Deanston", right out of loyalty?

    • @GeorgeMcConnon
      @GeorgeMcConnon Рік тому +2

      Never before has such wisdom come from a person who was soooo certain 😉
      In fairness though if I tried this, it would be blind luck if I got it right.

    • @TheGrailTastings
      @TheGrailTastings  Рік тому +2

      Oh there are so many that's a really hard question! We would obviously say Islay (probably Ardbeg and Bruichladdich in particular) but nearer us we would definitely suggest Lindores Abbey, Glenturret, Edradour and Glengoyne. For proper whisky geekery Hollyrood in Edinburgh is a must although they have no single malt ready they are going lots of cool things with barley. Deanston is great to see around but as far as we know at the moment they aren't doing any production tours, just warehouse tastings. And of course they can pop in and see us in Callander! Hope this helps!
