Joe Pinto Guess what the base engine is on a 2015 Dodge Challenger... Yep, same engine that Chrysler puts in the Jeep. I think it is a great engine for the jeep. Not so sure how it would work in a full bodied muscle car though.
I for one happen to have a Jurassic Jeep. And at no point in this video was the term jurassic Jeep used, nor was any logo shown to indicate such a statement..
curious when they decided this criteria. my 2007 grand cherokee has the hemi and quadradrive 2. but i have no recovery points and no skid plates. has the trail rated badge though.
question if there is a 20 inches water obstacle for the trail rated badge how did the anything with the 3.7l get the badge seeing how that jeep them selves said anything more than 6 inches of water could destroy the engine???
i'm fond of the older rigs, the Cherokee, and the CJ7, though the new grand cherokee is pretty sweet, and i've read some decent reviews in 4 wheel and offroad mag about the trail rated JK, though i was sad to see the AW4 auto and 4.0L combo die off with the cherokee line *sadface* i'm glad to see that atleast the R&D was not wasted from those engines and drivetrain setups, good work jeep, and great video TFLcar, keep up the good work my friend
@BORN2LOSE13 I'd give the edge to the FJ...but only because the Wrangler has an ancient engine and 4-speed auto gearbox...other wise they are bit supremely off-road capable and fun.
Thank you for doing a review of the Jeep "IN MUD"!!! I hat reviews with jeeps on dry trails. Its the mud trails that really show what a short wheel base 4x4 can do. I remember doing circles around other vehicles with my old CJ7 on the north shore of Hawaii after a storm. (I won't say names to keep from getting flamed) The other vehicles got in and out but mine did it easier and faster.
I just put factory/dealer tow hooks on my just purchased 2005 GC (ie WK). They're massive, and mount much more solidly on the WK than the previous WJ, which were weak on side pulls. Also a 7000 lb dealer/factory hitch on the back for recovery. No skid plate upgrade yet. A Jeep friend likes BFG Long Trail tires due to the steel belts + thick tread, which we need over the sharp blasted rocks in strip mine country. I've seen mixed reviews.
I think the Trail Rated thing is a bit silly. Shouldn't it be generally known that a Jeep (at least the Wrangler) is automatically capable to tackle the Rubicon trail?
Amen! Like a baseball bat is baseball rated or a corvette is pavement rated. I'm now rating all my things. My socket wrench is bolt rated, and my hat is head rated, and my mouse is computer rated...my pen is paper rated....this is fun!!! I'm gonna start captain obvious rating all things that are exclusive to a task. My stapler is staple rated....
Is my jeep trail rated it's some wrangler thing I only go to the mall with it no trails but when the other shoppers piss me off or trap me in traffic I do jump all the curbs and grassy mediums to get most direct route to the highway even the security don't follow they in a non trail rated car!
that's why when I had my 76 Chevy Pickup in the winter I always had a half a chord of wood in the back. For some reason, Jeeps, as light as they are are as surefooted as a mountain goat
I agree that the newer Fiat owned Chrysler/Jeep stuff is inferior...sad to say because I have been a Chrysler/Dodge/Plymouth/Jeep enthusiast since I was a kid. But I have a 2004 Grand Cherokee Rocky Mountain Edition. This was the absolute last year for solid cast iron blocks, solid cast iron heads and 4 solid axles with the Selec-Trac 4WD system. The Grand Cherokee now has 220K plus miles and runs like the day I drove it off the Jeep dealership lot. I build cell sites on top of mountains in West Virginia, Virginia and North Carolina. This vehicle has climbed paths - no more than partially cleared cow paths - to mountaintop sites that I have watched Chevy, Ford, Toyota, Nissan an even Land Rovers not be able to negotiate. Sorry Mr. 2010V6RAV4...I wouldn't trade my JGC for four of anything that Toyota makes.
No. 2006 Was The Last Good Year. that was the end of the good jeeps (excluding the commander, patriot, WK cherokee - they are okay) The new JKs dont suck, they just aint as good as that 4.0 i6
Hi Guys, here is my 50 cents. It all depends on what is your exspectation of the car. Some people just like to be driven from point A to point B and have reliable car. For me car that I drive should be intertaining. I've driven Toyota Kluger 2014 and Jeep Grand Cherokee Loredo Diesel 2014 the same day I must say that Toyota ones again prooved to be the most boring car. The only 2 Toyotas I enjoyed driving was FJ and 86, the rest of them are very boring to drive. By the way I bought the Jeep GC 3 weeks ago and love it so far.
Alex Kelner Apples and fucking oranges, Alex. You know that. Here's $.50 go to the movies and hope it's a pre 1964 coin. PS>>> Boring?....Like a Fixed Or Repair Daily?....You missed the boat son, go drink some beadueiux wine....you can probably spell that too!
@bcv001 The conditions in this video, both snow and mud, would be best suited to an AT tire. Snow tires have low tread block clearing capability for mud, and an AT tire has molded siping for snow traction with moderate tread block clearing. Given the environment in which this video was shot, the best option would be MTs that were siped by a third party tire dealer/installer, an aggressive AT tire, or a mild MT tire with molded sipes (Toyo Open Country MTs come to mind).
If my Jeep isn't trail rated, can i buy a bolt-on kit of sort? Like skid plates, tow hooks? I have been looking online but havent found really anything from my make and year model. "which is 2005 Grand Cherokee"
ive been thinking about buying the new 2012 wrangler unlimited, but i heard that the trunk cannot be locked. it sounds kind of ridiculous which is why i bring it up. is it true?
for the same reason most intense dedicated rock crawlers have them. Less stress on drive train, less stress on your left knee and better speed control. .
The thing is, here in North America the availability of 70 series (or likewise) is so low, so jeeps are the best we have. And really they're completely different vehicles anyways.
MarsOneOnOne wanna bet on it I got a duramax in my Jeep producing so much torque that no diesel can stand up to yeah I produce 1000 torque due to the chip I bought
+sharki9876 If you buy a 6 seat and sell your minivan/suv, you'll have the cash needed to equip it well enough to keep up with an old outdated 4.0L 4 seat jeep.
that jeep guy is one hell of a politician, spent a 6 minute video answering the question and never answered the question, just a bunch of bullshit talk with no specifics.
I have a 96 ZJ with the 5.2 so old school, some suspension work and i have Goodyear silent armor tires which are great in snow, much better than the factory AT tires that don't seem to grip too well
sorry in advance guys.. I don't want to offend any of you jeep owners but what is the rubicon? I am looking to get a wrangler unlimited but i don't know what's best
Thotbreak Kid depends what your going to be doing. Unless you are going to be off-road rock crawling 65% of the time or more. Your gonna want a rubicon. The others do just fine if your. It rock crawling or going off-road more than 2 times a week. The rubicon has a rear locking diff and a front locking diff. Which on the other jeeps if one tire had less traction all the power will be sent to it and it will just spin. A locking diff locks it so if there's a tire with less traction it can't slip because it's locked to the other side and the one with more traction will spin as well. Which is great on rocks and can help in snow and mud as well just not as much. The next thing is they have a front electronic sway bar disconnect. Which allows for more articulation of the front axle. Best for rock crawling again. They also have the option for a low 4:10 rear axle ratio. My opinion is get the Sahara. If you have any more questions ask away.
It s a close call; i live here in the mtns. of pa in which people prefer both. I'm gonna go with snow, since many snow tires for SUVS are rated as Mud/Snow .
DaGerminator 4 dr is heavier so slightly lower MPG from that, but it matters as much which engine and the gearing, whether it's for performance, towing, or economy. Obviously the latter would have best MPG but be least fun or utilitarian.
Please get in one and get it filthy. Get its first star on the windshield, paint blemish, etc. Once the paint is all lightly scratched from mud and dirt, you'll be struck by Jeepamania... Then all things are good. Love the JK family of vehicles. What an awesome vehicle.
if you are not going to be out much on the trails then no. if you have the money get the rubi. as i have learned with my jeep jku sport, it sucks on the road but its amazing when i do some offroad stuff. im still in school so i wont do any modding to it until i finish but i have found that its very easy to get carried away with how i want the jeep to turn out. so drive the jeep alot before you think of any modding. hope this helps. if you have any questions dm me.

pretty cool I didn't know the trail rated actually meant anything. Of course the trails shown could be done with my stock 1 ton ram with mud tires. it means they started making vehicles that were not meant to taken off road. They had to come up with a way to let the uninformed public know that they shouldn't take there compass offroading.
This guy is a total liar if you break something while driving off road then go to the dealer to have it fixed the factory rep will void the warranty because you drove it off road!
"....flexibility, manouverability, escapability, durability, climbability, snowability, mudability, rockability, funability, shagability, and fertility"
so its a pointless dumb badge, got it.
There will never be another Jeep as great as the XJ. But that won't keep me from hoping something epic does come along :)
So many Jeep haters in posts. So why are you watching a Trail Rated video?
They're making Jeeps better than ever. When they dropped in

Joe Pinto ;but the infamous 4.0 inline six was a proven motor mone has 245,000 and still going strong...
Mark P mine has 200,000
You couldnt be more Wrong. the best jeeps were made 1941-2006. especially with that 4.0 i6
Mark P yup... 250k 99 cherokee XJ
I for one happen to have a Jurassic Jeep. And at no point in this video was the term jurassic Jeep used, nor was any logo shown to indicate such a statement..
Time for an updated video?
@bcv001 You know, I asked the Jeep guys the this very same question and never really got a great answer.
so 8 tries foot on the floor if it doesnt make it by then it isnt trail rated
curious when they decided this criteria. my 2007 grand cherokee has the hemi and quadradrive 2. but i have no recovery points and no skid plates. has the trail rated badge though.

At 4:28 when the reporter ask if it's trail tested? The look in that man's eyes 👁️👀. Like a deer in headlights!! LoL 😂😆 we'll take that as a, NO!!!!
For showroom stock vehicles, thats really not bad at all.

@smidet there is no fuel door on the Wranglers. You can buy aftermarket ones though.

@smidet there is no fuel door.....thats just a mopar accessory some people add on
@JeepMan19007 are they actually bullet proof
Anybody know where to get those headlights on the liberty, mine are cracked and foggy?
I'd like to know what scores each Jeep received. I didn't know the Compass was Trail Rated. I kind of like that new Cherokee
ive been thinking about buying the new 2012 wrangler unlimited, but i heard that the trunk cannot be locked. it sounds kind of ridiculous which is why i bring it up. is it true?
for the same reason most intense dedicated rock crawlers have them. Less stress on drive train, less stress on your left knee and better speed control.

Where I'm from jeeps are really rare. The Land Cruiser and Hilux Turbo Diesels are war horses and beasts of burden.
MarsOneOnOne wanna bet on it I got a duramax in my Jeep producing so much torque that no diesel can stand up to yeah I produce 1000 torque due to the chip I bought
does anybody know what year jeep stoped making the plastic tops for the wrangler?
@smidet its a jeep, stuff just falls off
I have a wrangler and a Cherokee but was curious why the compass is no longer trail rated? my brother has a 2016.
ericimi the compass is a heap of crap. That's why.
+Michael Kuzma dutton but why was it trail rated at one point was it a certain trim ?
why is the fuel door off.. most jeeps i see its always off and i dont know why
So what is a Rubicon's trail rating, 8.25? ;-)
Why don’t Trailhawk open the doors to all four-wheel-drive manufacturers
are the 6 seat jeeps better for off road than the 4 seat ones? are there any advantages?
+sharki9876 If you buy a 6 seat and sell your minivan/suv, you'll have the cash needed to equip it well enough to keep up with an old outdated 4.0L 4 seat jeep.

COLORADO TAGS BUT FILMED IN WYOMING LIKE WE DONT HAVE SNOW !!!
What about now that they upgrader the wrangler with the 3.6 pentastar and a 5 speed auto?
I can't wait to hit the snow in my jeep. I still need better tires and a winch.
life of a jeeper yeah pretty excited for this upcoming winter lol.
life of a jeeper
Jeepers creepers can't wait for sun I wanna ride my 06 wrangler with top down and only shorts show off my big gut!
Do 4 door and 2 door ones get the same mpg?

4 Door Jeep is the Starbucks Warrior! TJ ALL THE WAY!!!! Happy Jeepin!
2 door jk rubicons are nothing to joke about either.
Michael Skokauckas I'm a YJ guy myself. nothing like them good ole leaf springs and square headlights. also because Jurassic Park 1 lol
Michael Skokauckas I love my wjs lol.
Michael Skokauckas any jeep 41-06 is great!
I can’t describe how perfect this comment is! Spot on
Old RR flatcar bridge at 5:00.
Like RCR said, Trail Rated is an award Chrysler made up to give themselves. Well played.
Please get in one and get it filthy. Get its first star on the windshield, paint blemish, etc. Once the paint is all lightly scratched from mud and dirt, you'll be struck by Jeepamania... Then all things are good. Love the JK family of vehicles. What an awesome vehicle.
is good to buy a wrangler rubicon if I'm a city man?? or should I go for a sahara? I just want one to custom. Thanks Guys
if you are not going to be out much on the trails then no. if you have the money get the rubi. as i have learned with my jeep jku sport, it sucks on the road but its amazing when i do some offroad stuff. im still in school so i wont do any modding to it until i finish but i have found that its very easy to get carried away with how i want the jeep to turn out. so drive the jeep alot before you think of any modding. hope this helps. if you have any questions dm me.
hablas español? pregunt por tu nombre. an yea thanks for the commnts
Yeah I'm bilingual
if you aren't gonna go offloading don't buy one
what about city man
At 4:00 that sky slider on the Jeep Liberty is nothing but problems. I love my Liberty, but it can really make it feel like a piece of junk at highway speeds of over 55 mph. Jeep needs to step up and solve that issue.
I had to google that. They should have put a piece of glass there if anything.
On a side note.....Do you think he's driving just a little to fast for nothing?
Love my jeep
Why no LSD's?
non rubicon trail rated are lsd rear. you can add a lsd or locks front pretty cheap too.base sport is all open dif with computer control bldmost models between it in the rubi are lsd rear with bld rear and front.
Say no to drugs brother just ride a jeep any jeep I had a girlfriend named Jeep, Samantha Jeep wow she was hard core and loved to climb
Why is there a Trail-rated badge on a Rubicon? Rubicons are already as "trail-rated" as a stock Jeep can get.
@ManiacChaseman I agree... I go to a high school that has some, well, wealthier kids, and for some reason their parents all buy them Jeeps and FJs and get the freakin offroad packages, when these cars are never gonna see more than gravel and snow... I don't get it.
Considering the tires (other then the Rubicon), one needs to remember this while these rigs are making thier rounds on the test track. I like how it's mentioned that "tow hooks" are need but unless you "pay" for these items, there are NO snatch points on the Liberty. Not sure about the compass but most KJ's have them off the showroom floor. Un cool Chrysler. You don't put a "jeep" on the street without snatch points. No hooks, no stinking badge. Period.
Can people just enjoy a video and not try and make it into a brand war? Also from his answer I couldn't catch weather not it actually gets tested on a trail before they put the badge on it.
no testing at all if it drives out the gates it gets a badge people who don't drive offroad wont know the diff and think they got something different but they don't anybody els who drives off road knows its just a badge and dosent care anyway
They take them to the rubicon trails, only certain models get a trail rated badge. For example, you will not find a 2WD Jeep with a trail rated badge. I know for a fact, I work for Jeep.
And another Thing-the tundra was rated the most dependable half ton!
By Whom?
@backintack ohhh that makes sense.. i bought mine used so maybe the person before me put one on, thanks!
It doesn't mean anything anymore. They put it on the newer Grand's, and the New 2014 Cherokia.
pretty cool I didn't know the trail rated actually meant anything. Of course the trails shown could be done with my stock 1 ton ram with mud tires. Since, The chief engineer is out there I would assume these trails were actual trails they certify the jeeps on. If not they are just a bunch of kids screwing around in the snow. Nothing worthy of a video...
testing is done on the rubican trail. Pick up trucks would have a hard time due to brake over angle. Not saying its impossible but harder.
THEY'RE IN JACKSON HOLE!
Trail rated and military grade most over used words used by Jeep and Ford, both makes unreliable.
Bought a jeep cause I live in rural Canada and all I do with the thing is not getting stuck, off roading, and pulling ford's out of ditches
I love my 2011 wrangler best vehicle ever
@romanmicagearguy so get a 2011 with the new motor..... i still like the i6 they can take one heck of a beating!
if you think that dealers dont just slap these badges on any old thing and jack the price up then you are naive
SWEET!
my fave Wrangler#1 (which I have) Cherokee#2
My fridge has a "Trail Rated" badge. Doesn't mean anything of any importance.
You're right, no one cares about your friggin' refrigerator...
Kenneth Curtis I do
I once drug a refrigerator with my ol wrangler thru rubicon trail hmmmm maybe you got that one
Us older jeeps dont need no trail rated badge.
They should have. Some of you are riding around with no underbody protection or recovery hooks. That’s scary.
***Jeeps are NOT All Wheel Drive(AWD) they are Four Wheel Drive(4x4) there is a huge difference, AWD is a Subaru.***
Not often the video's creator gets too many negative votes..
@romanmicagearguy The 3.8 isn't actually a bad engine, it's just the electronic throttle that is the problem. And the 6-speed manual does much better than the auto.
AWD? I believe thats 4WD to you sir.
I would be willing to bet that a non-trail rated Wrangler is more capable than a trail rated Compass.
i agree. my dads FJ is nothing compared to my JKU. even with his rear locker, my flex and lsd rear will take the hill.
only thing the jeep has over the fj is the locker in the front thats it..
a base outback could do all of that
No skid plates no recovery hooks no good awd. That’s a mommy wagon
Hahahah Nissan’s add on the new nav lol
Advertising the fact it’s got Apple CarPlay and hillstart
MO- PAR!!! All American🇺🇸 Jeeps awsome! 😁
Italian now... I'll stick to my amc xj
+ajwillson624 Aston Martin were once owned by ford but the R&D as well as manufacture is still in the UK. Audi own Lamborghini. Does that mean it's not an Italian super car? Just saying - n yes I get your point too 🤓
His answers seem a bit vague.
👍👍👍
man that look so fun... i wish i could do that lol
