I remember when the 2012 was released, I had just bought my 2011..... man I was pissed! 20’ Jeep Gladiator owner now and couldnt be happier. Love my Jeeps! Its now my 5th since I started driving!
Had a chance to drive a 2019 4dr JL-U and i was flat out amazed at its handling and ride on the highway. Never would have thought a blunderbuss with live axles front and rear could carve the road like, and even soak up bumps better than a sweet-riding sedan. Gotta say those engineers did a great job.
Just bought my 2012 JK Unlimited last month and I love it. Gas mileage is up compared to my previous 2009 model and the new one is much more powerful. It's super quiet too. I got Bluetooth in mine and my wife continues to claim it's quieter when I talk to her on my cellphone over the Bluetooth.
We have a 2008 Wrangler Unlimited and trust me it is a surprisingly good commuter, other than the gas mileage, the 6-speed manual is great and the ride is surprisingly well, even with aftermarket wheels and bigger tires. There is a strange feel that makes this fun-to-drive, it doesn't handle well, but it just makes you want to drive it. I wouldn't have an automatic in one, it just isn't really good during off road maneuvers.
Jeeps used to be affordable. Now they're in the same price range as a BMW. They need to return to their roots and make them lighter, smaller and cheaper but at the same time keeping them offroad worthy.
Just sold my 2008 Sahara 4 door (Lease Return) and will in the future buy another one. I had two complaints with mine the 3 years I owned it. The interior fit/finish which they updated in 2011, and the lack of power from the 3.8 V6 which of course now is the new 3.6 V6 Pentastar making 83 more HP and 23 lb-ft of Torque. Awesome vehicle if you live in snow country like I do.
@JSSJeepin Are you talking Landrovers and Landcrusiers (they are expensive here too)or are cars just more expensive in Australia? If so I'm curious to know why.
He was talking about the manual control option on the automatic transmission. He was just saying you can force it to stay in the gear you want it to, whereas some automatics may provide partial control over gear selection, but not total control.
At 2:37 he's wrong about the automatic transmission not shifting on it's own while in manual mode. It down shifts and goes into first at a stop and will even downshift when you lug in in 4th. How do I know? I own a 2014 Wrangler Sport. I like this feature. However it does not up shift so you can control your power and shift point manually. It's very much like a clutch less manual transmission. I like it. BTW if anyone get's on me about purchasing an automatic Wrangler, well I just crushed my pelvis ( again) in a motorcycle crash and I now have rod's in one leg so I needed to go without a clutch.
One thing to remember is that the programming between the 2012 and later models is different. The 2012 5-speed was a Euro Merc sourced tranny with original programming, and will hold the gear longer while the 2013 and 2014 were US 5-speed made by Jeep/Fiat under license from Mercedes and they had different programming including shift points and slower shifting for longevity and MPG concerns. Anywhooo, BOTH will shift down to 1st when stopped, which is annoying if you want to "start in 2nd" on icey intersections like I could do in my old GrandPrix back in the early 90s. The Wrangler will show 2nd but it'll just be the "max gear" at that point, not current gear and then will stick to 2nd until stopped again.
Still hoping they move to ZF trannys in the near future for both Manual and Auto, with the 7-speed manual (with [7DCT] dual-clutch/paddles or without [7MT]) and the 8-speed auto currently found in the RAM & GrandCherokee, either of which would make pushing the brick through the wind more efficient as well as give better low-end ratios/grunt for the off-road. I want either of those more than a diesel option (because diesel in extreme cold unplugged sucks). Although would still like the "start in 2nd option for the Auto, but would likely go with the 7-speed ZF if it were multi-clutch since it wouldn't be such a headache in stop-go driving the way the current 6-speed is (I don't mind on the 2010 at the cottage but would hate it for day to day on traffic jams in Calgary going up steep hills stopping every 10-20 feet).
Some people prefer auto's for off road, I know I do. Means I don't have to keep track of three pedals and what gear I'm in. Still love sticks in road cars though.
For the 0-60 and quarter-mile testing they should have chosen the Rubicon with 4.10 gearing, as the Sahara with 3.21 (they didn't even get the 3.73 ? ) and that would affect the off-the-line performance dramatically. The slight 7lb penalty for the Rubicon would be more than made up for by the better ratio, although you'd prefer the Sahara Dueler or SportS SR-A tires for traction versus the MTs of the Rubicon. The 3.21 ratio would hurt acceleration, but perhaps they wanted to focus on the mileage #s which would be slightly better than on the higher ratio.
The difference is quite noticeable, as is the tires. Why do you think drag racers use 3.73 gears as a 'starting point'? If you are going to measure it, might as well measure it correctly, with proper tires (the 17" SRAs at least) and the proper gear ratio (at least the 3.73 and preferably the 4.1). Otherwise just run the 0-60 with 4 occupants and 200lbs worth of gear as well. If they're going to take a measurement which means little to most Wrangler owners to begin with (I don't know anyone who cared about 0-60 vs MPG or HP/torque. They might as well make it fair so you can compare it to other vehicles that they're trying to use this pointless 0-60 # for anyways. I have compared my Rubi with the 4.1 to a friend's Sport with the 3.21 and it is deffinitely noticeable the difference in acceleration despite him having the SRAs and me having BFG Duelers (the Sahara's tires) at the time now Duratracs which are noticeably slower despite similar tread footprint/rolling resistance because they weigh 10lbs more per tire.
I dont think Wrangler owners care much about 0-60 times or 1/4mi times and trap speeds (or fuel economy for that matter). But, its definately vastly improved over the 07-10 versions. The new JL is amazing....but you will pay a hefty price for the new JL.
Mark I picked up a 2013 sport with a softtop and its so worth it ! Ben is just bitter , Since i live in Colorado its my go to car ! I also have a 2013 Grand cherokee LTD and that is awesome as well !
Bought my first wrangler yj in 1990 on my third jeep now 2013 jk i bought new and love it been very reliable would love to get a jl but wow there are expensive!!
wrangler unlimted or mustang gt? im 21 and my dads buying it which one? and i make $28,000 and im single so i have no one else to think of but id like to keep this car for at least 10 years. which one? and also lol take in the fact i might be married by then right now im a ensign in the united states navy and i will get a promotion in another year to the next rank. help please :)
@coolgames14 I'm not hopeful for Chrysler; since 1997, the company has been in European hands due to corporate bungling and mistakes, going all the way back to Lee Iacocca's tenure. I like some of the offerings, but we need a real affordable performance car and the Challenger ain't it. They haven't given us anything like that since 1974 and I think the remedy is one of the sporty concept cars they've shown over the years, like the Copperhead.
@MrSnubzy Ouch you must get screwed on import taxes. Base for a two is 22k over here. According to google the exchange rate is 1 AUS to 1.04 US so its pretty close. I'm a Jeep guy but 44k for a base, I'd get something else.
@TheKidNamedRoland i was in the same position as you man, I live in canada so the mustang dosent work for me, im going with the jeep. But ethier way make sure you get the features you want at the dealer and not later on. I would go mustang is your spending time on the streets and in a climate that can let you drive one, i have no choce but the jeep ( i used to drive a jag) since i go hiking, skiing, mountian biking and camping lots. Plus with my schooling i need it to last.
@whatever04811 Hard to say I've had 2 XJs and they have been awesome, 260k miles on the first one. My brother has a WJ and its a piece of crap. Same engine in all three of them, I dont' get it.
More money, more quality , more fun ;p Jak na mnie jak się ma wecej kasy, to nie problem kupić dobre auto. Na Jeepa bym się skusiła w pierwszej kolejności.
@coolgames14 Could be. If I have time tomorrow, maybe I'll call the dealership just for fun. Look at how long the 4.0 I6 ran; it was just a reworked version of the old 258 AMC engine, and Chrysler is known for being the poorest of the Big Three so they reuse everything they can as long as they can.
seriously??..Mine has leather, power windows and doors, air, cruise ...and even at that I feel kinda bad because after all it is a jeep and is meant primarily as an offroad toy ..
The new jeep wrangler looks just like the old wrangler which looks like the even older model which yet still looks like the even older model and so on. Jeep, tricking people into buying Chrysler garbage since forever lol
AaronVincentPresents it wasn't that long ago that it was AMC, they got the company straight for willis overland. Also the original jeep in WWll had 9 grill slots.
No im going to slap on 22" on that shit and put in some neon green lights along with a huge wing on the back while its slammed down to the floor to take that shit shopping and make it never see and grain of sand, dirt, rocks, water. Just concrete and public roads mwhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahaha

No mater how new or recent the vehicle is, these MotorWeek videos always look 20 years old! LOL

Motorweek is the best car review program there is for sure!
Yes John is a great host and narrator for the road and comparison tests from this to the Grand Cherokee!
I watch Motor Week since September 2009
I love my 97 Jeep Cherokee 4.0 L Straight 6. :3
Is it still running?
I love Jeep Wrangler. Grand Wagoneer and Cherokee is bests of Jeep
This man is the face of Motor Week’s Wrangler reviews since the YJ. Lucky guy

They are cheap and over priced

I love jeeps! I just got my new one, a 2015 Willis wheeler, and love it awesome and capable machine.👍🌵
I test drove a new Wrangler recently.Damn,I am hooked
Traded my Wrangler Sahara Unlimited 4 door for a Fully manual 2012 Sport. No frills. Love it!
Who cares about a track test? Its an off roader!!!
@JSSJeepin Are you talking Landrovers and Landcrusiers (they are expensive here too)or are cars just more expensive in Australia? If so I'm curious to know why.
the uni-color blue looks nice
just got 2015 hydra blue 2 door Willy's wheeler edition. love it

A black 2013 V6 2 door in here!
Nothing like cruising down a rocky dirt road with the top off during the sunshine after a rainstorm and getting your Wrangler dirty.

It will be interesting to see how long these pentastar engines last. New aluminum vs. the old cast iron block....
It's my dream noa a shit. Zawsze taki właśnie chciałem, ale muszę jeszcze poczekać. Jeep Wrangler, Compass i Cherokee- trójka wspaniała ;)
@and2244rew dude, $44k in Australia is CHEAP for a good 4x4, most are $60k +
just went and got my brochure today, looking at the sport only
Mark I picked up a 2013 sport with a softtop and its so worth it ! Ben is just bitter , Since i live in Colorado its my go to car ! I also have a 2013 Grand cherokee LTD and that is awesome as well !

wrangler unlimted or mustang gt? im 21 and my dads buying it which one? and i make $28,000 and im single so i have no one else to think of but id like to keep this car for at least 10 years. which one? and also lol take in the fact i might be married by then right now im a ensign in the united states navy and i will get a promotion in another year to the next rank. help please :)

I love this video. Thanks for the info. ;)
Im looking to get a 2 door 2012 and with between 40 to 60 thousand miles . They are more expensive used then they were brand new 10 years ago.
I’m looking for same specs . 18k to 20k will be price range
Pretty sure he was talking about the manual setting of the automatic trans.
im mclovin it
@MrSnubzy Ouch you must get screwed on import taxes. Base for a two is 22k over here. According to google the exchange rate is 1 AUS to 1.04 US so its pretty close. I'm a Jeep guy but 44k for a base, I'd get something else.
Here a base model Wrangler is 20K. A ford Escape is $24,900.
Lol How does heated seats still work after getting water in the cabin? The wrangler has gotten too much daily luxury features.
i love this truck
Me too, i love Jeep Wrangler
Epic color
Is the interior all plastic to allow for a complete hose down?
Should've been all metal.
That was an amazingly good review. Thanks.
I have the same :) to need is to buy - no to ja też tak mam, najchętniej kupiłbym juz jutro to auto, ale jeszcze muszę poczekać

wow nice color
Wheres BAJABUSTA????
They did. It got 18.6 mpg average on mixed driving. They say it @ 1:34 ;)
@coolgames14 I don't think so, now that Chrysler is owned by the Italians instead of the Germans.
Love
you got that
@sarokas12 want luxurious? get a Cadillac. want to go any where? get a Jeep
In off road situations torque rules, this engine was not an upgrade in that aspect:(
@whatever04811 Hard to say I've had 2 XJs and they have been awesome, 260k miles on the first one. My brother has a WJ and its a piece of crap. Same engine in all three of them, I dont' get it.
@tommy35ss
Thanks!
Why on earth would you get the automatic?! The manual is the way to go!
love that coclor
great review ..
Ilike it ..
Are Jeeps reliable?
whatever04811 the older gens are very.
More money, more quality , more fun ;p Jak na mnie jak się ma wecej kasy, to nie problem kupić dobre auto. Na Jeepa bym się skusiła w pierwszej kolejności.
To bad they leaked like a sieve.
Fun vehicle.
Nice car ^ ^
JEEP LIKE NO OTHER THE ORIGINAL 4X4 SINCE 1941 EVERYTHING ELSE IS JUST A COPY
That road would be fun in my subie. :)
@Mockingbird5150 The best small 4x4 is made by Land Rover? No, it is not.
seriously??..Mine has leather, power windows and doors, air, cruise ...and even at that I feel kinda bad because after all it is a jeep and is meant primarily as an offroad toy ..
wow 7.8sec and 15,5 sec quarter.....fast
18.6 MPG, i wouldn't complain as my 96 ZJ 5.2 gets about 12
haha, "trust us, IT'S BETTER!"
My 2010 JKU has a CRD diesel... Australia, suck it US.
I hate you and Europe lol I don't know why we can't get them in diesel
Here in Chile we have the CRD Diesel AND the V6, 3 or 5 door, Sport or Rubicon or Sahara haha
@Shabbernigdo Yea i guess ur right but styll their wayy better than these new jeeps.
you spelled jeep wrong
could have mentioned test drive mpg avg
I'd probably sell a kidney for one of these. lmao.
The 2012 Escape base model is 19 k
Fudge that! Get the 6.2 hemi upgrade ^_^
I got a 2012 Unlimited and I love it. Now, I'm waiting for the Hybrid Jeep (diesel/electric) rumored to be in the works.
No electric but there is a diesel model coming out 2.8l diesel
nick ndou
Diesel is nice, but not enough for me to upgrade. I will continue to wait for the hybrid electric/diesel.
I don't really think they will ever make a wrangler electric
The Idea of a hybrid wrangler makes me want to vomit that would ruin it forever nobody buys a jeep for fuel economy that's just sac religious.
Flabbypanda Maximum torque at zero RPM for electric.
Typical Motorweek review. Overly positive. Why do they do that?
2:30. Lol, why the fuck would a manual shift itself?
@jvrdlc It really is my dad has a 93 wrangler its wayyyy better. any jeep before 98 are the best
Lost my left leg in the war. Manual won't work for me.
I hope everyone who buys a Wrangler takes it off road.
No im going to slap on 22" on that shit and put in some neon green lights along with a huge wing on the back while its slammed down to the floor to take that shit shopping and make it never see and grain of sand, dirt, rocks, water. gargilbert Lol. What tool does that?
***** You'd be surprised
gargilbert ,LOL 😀
I wish the man would not shout so much. Is he capable of talking at all?
Ronald de Rooij THATS JUST HOW HE TALKS!
He was capable long time ago. Now he got americanized to the limit. A loud-mouth robot.
great breaking but lousy steering
And if you dont know what that means... TRUST US ITS BETTER. Lol!
He means "they run it all the way to the ground" Lol
what the heck....chrome? Did I see chrome on the shifters? That is NOT a JEEP.
10 year old comment but the old CJs came optional with chrome grilles and Chrome wheels lol
Crap jeeps leaking water and bad quality problems. TJ was so much better
я вахуе от их цен
Sorry but I cant stand reviews like this coming from the US. Just so standard and sounds like a tv advert selling kitchen stuff.. TERRIBLE learn something from the brits
