I had a CT5V BW on order, but found my 2018 CTS-V first. I'm glad. Not only was the CTS-V significantly cheaper, I really feel it is a much better car, for me. The CTS-V is a GORGEOUS car from any angle, and I love the looks. To me, it represents the pinnacle of the "Art & Science" theme. The BW is nice, but its styling is more anonymous. I love the CTS-V's hood vent, and side vents. The wheel design is nicer, and I prefer the rear styling, particularly the blade tail lights. In terms of the interior, the little details in the CTS-V are pleasing (eg. the narrow suede border around the air bag, the beautiful leather trim on top of the dash, the metal surround around the climate control area). Mine has the Recaro seats, and the full carbon fibre package, both of which I love. The interior of the BW again, its nice, but I prefer my car. In terms of the criticism of the 8 speed and the suspension in this review, I have no complaints about my car. The transmission shifts smoothly, and the ride is comfortable or firm, depending on what setting you choose. And the display in the CTS-V is much more aesthetically pleasing, to boot. To me, the third gen CTS-V is an amazing, wonderful car, and I am so pleased I chose it.

@@TracyTRoweandCo I believe that it is for "Blackwing" CT4/CT5 original owners. I don't think its for CT5-V models. Check with Spring Mountain Motorsports.
I’m a stick shift guy so naturally I think I would prefer the CT5, but there’s something about the lines and fastback look that doesn’t fit on that car, and the black trim behind the rear doors look like it should belong on a Chevy Cruz. The CTS had everything right except not offering a manual. I’ve seen a lot of CT5 V BWs lately but the first time I saw a 3rd gen CTS V (which was earlier this year) I had to do a double take, I forgot they existed because I never see them but it’s a gorgeous car and has the presence of a high dollar luxury performance car that the CT5 just doesn’t match. I would almost consider an automatic CTS over a manual CT5 on looks alone. The CT5 V BW may be a fantastic car, it may be a better driver than the CTS V, and I’m glad they finally brought the manual back, but the look just doesn’t feel like a flagship Cadillac sedan and the exterior nor interior looks to justify the $100k price IMO.
I'd take the CTS-V! Not at all a fan of the new look! Gives me Honda Accord vibes from the side view with that little side window... I have a 2015 Gen 2 coupe and a 2019 Gen 3 sedan both in black! Love them both!
Agreed! The BW looks like a Chevy Cruze that grew up with an attitude. That C-Pillar to the rear end is such a flop. All that power and still can't pull sub 3 second 0-60 times like lesser powered competitors with AWD.
I purchased a used 2016 ctsv in May23, it only had 6000km from the original owner. I put all new fluids and wrapped all 4 tires in Continental ExtremeContact Sport 2 rubber and have been loving it. I really want to start modding it for more power but it is such a clean example that it really would be a shame. The CTSV3 still turns heads. The 8 speed is a dog, but most of the annoying things go away with a TCM unlock and tune.
Change those shoes to Michelin pilot sport cup 2s or 4s and you'll see a he'll of a difference! Those were the tires made for that car! I know... I own 2!
I would so buy one of those as a fun project whip while my off black 14 CTS V-Sport Premium as the daily still, it’s actually a really good daily ESPECIALLY compared to my old 07 LS460 gas wise…
The CTS-V is better! Plus keeps up with the CT5-V! I know cause I have a 2019 model! 0-60...3.7sec. 1/4mile...11.8sec and topspeed 202mph! Don't ask how I know...😁😁😁🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
Omg the first time I saw a CTSV fly by one 101 southbound in San Jose on my way to work I was like WTF was that it was light a freaking rocket. Then we owned 2 the 2014 and 2018 they’re gorgeous cars nothing compares to American luxury and performance.❤
I had the V2 and V3. I like the V3 better than all of them. The Blackwing rear is not the look for me. However I love the seats. That M5 is a beast and the E63.
I boight a used 2018 after finding out the CT5 B was on a waiting list. Plus more expensive. Both have pros and cons. But other than not having a manual in my 18. I' m glad i got it.
Im blown away that people dont know how great the a8 is as a sports car transmission. Is far superior to the a10 in several ways, better gearing, allows 2nd gear starts, more cost effective, shift just as fast, and is pretty light. Heres the hang up. The a10 electronics are faster. So when you hit the paddle it reacts faster. That doesn't mean it shifts faster. I raced an a8 camaro ss time attack that was extremely competitive, very fast car for the class it ran in and id take an a8 over a10 and day for hard core teack work. Once you kearn the trans, shift slightly before you want the car to shift its better and faster than a10 on track, plus its stronger in most applications. Reasons way gm didn’t put the over hyped a10 into the c7 z06 or c7 zr1. And its not because it wouldn't fit as they could have adapted it easy. I currently have a c7z06 thats now my time attack car and only got the manual because i wanted to compete at the highest level and didn't want to fight weight and over heating as much. Car has all the cooling upgrades now and kinda kicking myself for not getting that magic a8.
I disagree. I had both the a8 and a10 and the a10 is far superior. It feels a lot beefier and stout, It upshifts a lot faster and downshifts a lot smarter on the track for the zl1. Maybe the a10 is different from zl1 to ss. When I first drove a zl1, the transmission was the first thing i noticed after just driving the ss.
While the a10 is the newer and more advanced transmission, the a8 is physically stronger, the a10 fits 2 more gears in the same size which means smaller physical gears. That’s not to say the 8L90 didn’t have its share of growing pains, or that the a10 is bad. They’re both great transmissions.
I will say around town the cts-v paddle shifters are slow to respond, but when you’re driving 9/10 or 10/10ths the transmission really comes alive and has really quick shifts.
@@Sithene I’ve had my 2017 cts-v for 2 years and after they came out with the updated fluid for the 8L-90 it hasn’t missed a beat. And that’s with 95k miles. I’m not bad mouthing the a10 at all, I think it’s a great transmission. I just think that from my experience the a8 doesn’t deserve all the hate (with the updated fluid). Before the new fluid was flushed in, I would have agreed that it sucked, but it is night and day with it.
The only disadvantage for me when I went from the 05 CTSV to the 2018 CTSV was no manual, but I do like the look better than the black wing. The fastback look just doesn't appeal to me. Great review
I don't have a V. But when I do get one. It might have to be the 3rd gen CTS. I just like how it looks. Well I do have a plebian CTS. LOL. I think the inside of the CTS is better also.

I don’t think Cadillac has been struggling to be relevant at all. The Europeans have been trying for decades to bests the Escalade and they _still_ haven’t figured that out but you people never mention that. It’s like luxury sports sedans are the only segments y’all think matter because that’s where Germans lead in sales, for now. However the Cadillac CT6 outsold the BMW 7-series in 2018 before it was discontinued. Not sure how that’s struggling to be relevant. The CTS also put the Germans on notice with their Alpha platform and they’ve actually recently beat them at their own game with cars like the CTS-V and CT5-VB.
Current owner of a 22 BW w/MT and previously owned an ‘18 CTSV. Both cars with Recaros. My take is this - the interior in the BW is a massive step up even though it may not look like it. The CUE system in the V was trash - the BW is good, not great. The piano black trim in the V was also trash. I like the buttons/layout in the BW. Camera access for parking much better in BW (I have carbon fiber packages). I miss the white RPM dial in the V though. The seats are the same for me. Comparing base seats to Recaros in the video isn’t fair. Base seats are super comfy but lack support, IMO. Looks wise - without the CF package, I like the V better. With CF, the BW looks better IMO. I do miss the hood vent in the V. For driving dynamics - both are stiff, even in tour suspension settings but Magnaride is magic. Exhaust note in BW is stronger in V mode than any mode on the V. Hard to compare the driving feel with diff transmissions, but the BW is the best car I’ve owned. I absolutely love the Tremec 6 speed. Feels fairly analog for a current car. For reference, 2nd best driving car I’ve had is a Giulia QV - also surprisingly analog feeling.
I’ve owned 3 V’s.. V3 is the only model that has a full carbon hood. V2 was the smoothest (but heaviest). Not a fan of the 8-speed and 10-speed autos (1st gear is useless). Blackwing looks bland but still a great car. Looking forward to see what the new V lineup will do, I’m guessing it will be a Hypercar next and looking forward to it.
You lucky dawg!! 😎 Three V's!! 🫡🫡 I got a 2018 V.. I could only watch, wish, & drool with the first two versions. I'm not a fan of the fastback design of the BW but it is still a beast. I got a few tasteful bolt on mods that got me up to 760 rwhp so a BW will have to mind its elders! 😁🙏🏾
The magneride on CTS-V is just aged, thats why it feels rougher. Driving my 18 ZL1 all the time felt fine until I rode in newer ZL1 & it was night & day. I'm only at 43k miles on mine, but new suspension is still new lllol. The optional manual on the CT5 tilts the scale & lined up next the older V, it does date it a bit.
No it hasn't as Cadillac has upgraded them with every new model I have a 2015 V with the 2nd stage magna ride and a 2019 with the 3rd gen magna ride! The CT5-V comes with the 4th iteration of said design!
I wonder if the suspension in the CTS-V you drove was working properly. I have a CTS-VSport which also has the magnetic suspension. When I first got it, it was very stiff and didn't noticeably adjust as you indicate. The problem was diagnosed by the dealer to a bad pin in the connector to the electronic differential. Once that was fixed, it has driven very nicely ever fixed.
What year is it. My wife has a 14 v sport and the suspension adjusts but is a bit firm in tour mode. I have an 18v and is sort in tour. I'll have to check the connectors on her car.
Great cars. Could not talk wifey into buying the CT5 V Blackwing. She said "too fast" Crazy right ? She settled on the 2022 V6 Twin turbo CT5 V Still a great car but its's not the Blackwing. Pretty fast but again not the Blackwing ! Good vid sir...
Oh Man, Dan! I been waiting for your to review the BW. But bring the V3 to compare against the BW makes things better. I would take both. I would take the CTS-V since it only comes with auto and the BW with a manual.
I need the CTS V in my life.. The Blackwing is special is special and unfortunately the dealers know this with their ridiculous markups. Also, i am a Caddy purist so you gotta have the vertical taillights.
easy answer: install CT5's suspension into the CTS. The 2 things that break the CT5 for me is the interior and the price tag. EVERYONE and I mean EVERYONE, not just the automotive industry, has milked the lockdown quarantine prices.
I think the ct4 looks better but the slightly bigger car ct5 is nice to. I guess it depends on the lease price. but have to get a sport model can’t afford the v. but still fine.
The new CT5V Blackwing is a practically a race car! But can drive it like a normal comfortable sedan. True sleeper an WILL an DID beat the SRT Hellcat on the 8th 3 races in a row
I’ll take the 2018 version used price wise you can definitely add upgraded parts later on the newer version it’s a beast but price wise it’s a whole lot more it’s a win win situation in witch everyone you choose 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲
Great review. My budget says CTS-V. But the Blackwing is the step forward. BTW. A question of curiosity. Can the 10sp auto from the Blackwing fit into the CTS-V?
GM doesn't allow any other vehicle of theirs to be more HP than the Corvette. This is why it doesn't have its own higher performance engine and tranny package, or even use the flat plane power plant found on the new C8, but the C7 powerplant.
Older CTS-V is a Bargain. Someone is selling a modified 2012 CTS-V Coupe making over 650 HP here in California for under $40K. Probably my next car but 4 doors :)
I’ll take the blackwing hands down over the CTSV all because it can be had with the tremec 6 speed! The CTSV is nice too. If you’re so worried about comfortable seats buy a Mercedes or BMW 7 series! This car is a performance vehicle not a soft riding old man car!
Its so odd to me the praise the CT5-V BW gets, iconic??? To me, its a tuned version of the V3 with a non-Caddy look, that isn't a replacement for the V3. The presence of a V3 is quite different than a CT5-V BW, think M5 vs M3. Additionally, performance relative to the competition, its worthy of a V sport badge at best. I understand that it drives great, perhaps it should have had a designation like "cs" and all the fuss over the manual is comical, when the manual was readily available, most people still bought the automatic... IMO the BWs are the least bold V models to date, I already spoke on the CT5 and the CT4 looks like an after thought with 2016 performance. Iconic V's, the V2's performance slaughtered the competition and the STS-V featured a hand built caddy motor with a long list of creature comforts with a leather wrapped interior. The latest M's and AMG's are literally in other leagues at this point. Hopefully, Cadillac's electric future delivers...
Now sure where he’s getting 3.7 to 60 for the BW. I see 3.4 for the 10 speed. Re the screens, I have both a 5 BW and 2017 CTS VSport. The screens are big upgrade in the BW - more data, clearer and faster.
12@120? I ran 11.6@124 in my 17 cts v with a bad injector. Also ran a 1.7 60" on some crappy off brand tires. Whoever owned it before didn't take very good care of it and actually put flowmasters on a cts v
I have a cts. V , and a 2024 blackwing on order. I feel like I am losing some features with the BW. No window shades, hood budge, and the car doesn't look as sporty.
Lincoln is a Ford... comparing them to Cadillac is like comparing a Honda to a bmw. Also you said Struggling to keep themselves relevant? Reinvent themselves for a long time to a luxury sportcar that's sporty and desirable. Cadillac has been making V's for 20+ years. The Blackwing is faster than a M5 CS, Mercedes S63 AMG, Redeye and a GT500. Keep hating on Cadillac it's not gonna change those facts. 💯🎤💧

The CT5 V BW may be a fantastic car, it may be a better driver than the CTS V, and I’m glad they finally brought the manual back, but the look just doesn’t feel like a flagship Cadillac sedan and the exterior nor interior looks to justify the $100k price IMO.
The ct5-v BW has adjustable side and lower seat bolsters with the upgraded seats. It really hugs if you bring the bolsters in
I'd take the CTS-V! Not at all a fan of the new look! Gives me Honda Accord vibes from the side view with that little side window... I have a 2015 Gen 2 coupe and a 2019 Gen 3 sedan both in black! Love them both!
Right. It sounds weaker than the V looks like other cars.
Agreed! The BW looks like a Chevy Cruze that grew up with an attitude. That C-Pillar to the rear end is such a flop. All that power and still can't pull sub 3 second 0-60 times like lesser powered competitors with AWD.
It looks very similar to the newer honda civic. I will take the CTS-V's all day!
This is my sign I need to buy it
the CTS-V is a highly respectable car but i love how gorgeous the CT5-V blackwing is🔥. Sadly I can't afford either😥
I had a 2011 CTS-V for five years. It was awesome. I now own a 2015 Z06 convertible 3LZ which i phenomenal.
I know... I own 2!
Finally, a comparison between these two. Thanks
I like the BW, but the CTS-V has all the looks of aggression. I'd take CTS-V.
I really do like the cts V and would not mind getting one at all but the blackwing is a dream car!
I have a 2017 ATS-V Coupe. Absolutely love it
That is such a nice colour on the CT5.
P.S. Real world performance metrics side by side would’ve been lovely.
Welcome back Dan! I've missed your videos.
CT5 Blackwing all day.
We need more content on a ZL1/1LE. Nurburgring legend and way more cooler than any Vette!
I rather have the cts-V it’s the real deal an legendary 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I would so buy one of those as a fun project whip while my off black 14 CTS V-Sport Premium as the daily still, it’s actually a really good daily ESPECIALLY compared to my old 07 LS460 gas wise…
LOVE the production here!
Glad to see you back with some banger vids. Ct5 blackwing is the choice for me
The CTSV seat also shakes your butt I am a CTSV owner and have been wanting to see a comparison. Great Job thanks!
I want a CTS V so bad 😔 but the blackwing is amazing
The CTS-V is better! Plus keeps up with the CT5-V! I know cause I have a 2019 model! 0-60...3.7sec. 1/4mile...11.8sec and topspeed 202mph! Don't ask how I know...😁😁😁🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
@@raulsanchezjr4048 next year I will get me one
CT5-V blackwing top speed is 209mph actually. The CT5 V blackwing has much better gearbox and is faster in a roll race.
@@raulsanchezjr4048You coulda looked it up like I looked my up lol. I love my off black 14 CTS V-Sport Premium, ultimate V Series Caddy under $25K
Very good review! I have owned/own both of these cars, and you hit the nail on the head with this review.
I don't believe you.
The Blackwing is such a good looking car
I love my 21 CT5 we have the V-6 twin T upgrade........ We were thinking of heading to the B-Wing for the next one... thank you for your review...
@@Goesreallyfast I had it for 2 years and i didn't like it at all. Not many people do but there's so much praise from the a10
@@Sithene I’ve had my 2017 cts-v for 2 years and after they came out with the updated fluid for the 8L-90 it hasn’t missed a beat.

Great comparison
Digging your overall expression here. Keep it up. Ty.
I can’t wait to get my CTSV
Your videos are excellent!
For the money I’d get the 2020 E63S AMG. The perfect saloon.
I like both, but the Blackwing is hard to beat … solid all-around sedan.
in order to rev the cts past 4k you have to move the shifter between D and N and you will be able to rev higher when showing off sound
Dan!!!! Awesome Video!!! Btw, did you get the z06 C8 VETTER? - Karl
This Cadillac CTS looks like 2024 who agree with me ? the interior looks wow amazing
CADIGANG either waay!!🔥💯
Great review
Is the 2017 CT’s v faster than the 2024 ct4 v black wing their both very similar and almost around the same price range but ones new and ones used ?
Oh Man, Dan! I been waiting for your to review the BW. But bring the V3 to compare against the BW makes things better. I would take both. I would take the CTS-V since it only comes with auto and the BW with a manual.
Or get the CTS-V and add a Corvette manual! It fits right in
@@raulsanchezjr4048 or get CTS-V V2 that has the better of both worlds.
Really good video and I liked your pace. Solid review!
Technically the Manual transmission is standard equipment in the blackwing since the auto costs more to throw in.
Always great!
👍
I need this I’ve been having a hard time choosing
Definitely I'll take the black 👍👍👍
I was thinking about trading in my CTS-V3 for the CT5-V Blackwing but that mark-up was crazy😅
I need the CTS V in my life.. The Blackwing is special is special and unfortunately the dealers know this with their ridiculous markups. Also, i am a Caddy purist so you gotta have the vertical taillights.
My favorite till this day is the V2 coupe . BATMOBILE
Properly tuned.. a CTS_V is a beast.
easy answer: install CT5's suspension into the CTS.
I like both of them.
I would get the cts-v wagon!
Can ats v and ct4v be done or it's the same
I’ll take the 2018 version used price wise you can definitely add upgraded parts later on the newer version it’s a beast but price wise it’s a whole lot more it’s a win win situation in witch everyone you choose 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲
Great review. My budget says CTS-V. But the Blackwing is the step forward. BTW. A question of curiosity. Can the 10sp auto from the Blackwing fit into the CTS-V?
Anything can work if you are creative enough
@@yamahaguy1732not even with any creativity! The 10spd bolts right up! So does the manual from the vette!!!
GM doesn't allow any other vehicle of theirs to be more HP than the Corvette. This is why it doesn't have its own higher performance engine and tranny package, or even use the flat plane power plant found on the new C8, but the C7 powerplant.
I like my 2010 CTS-V sedan! I have Recaro's no moonroof!
Would still take the cts-v....blackwing is nice though
Cadillac struggling to keep itself relevant? What?! Where did you get this information?
I agree it’s relevant and it’s definitely not struggling
Older CTS-V is a Bargain. Someone is selling a modified 2012 CTS-V Coupe making over 650 HP here in California for under $40K. Probably my next car but 4 doors :)
Don't judge Magride 3.0 with 130k miles vs. brand new Magride 4.0. You've gotta replace those dampers every 60k miles, otherwise they are super harsh.
While the CT5-V is a superior car and most desirable with the manual transmission, I prefer the look of the V3.
The screens are big upgrade in the BW - more data, clearer and faster.
my guy had the window open when he was doing his hair
Cadillac said if more horsepower doesn't make it faster on the track then there not doing it.
They'll bury me in my 18 V, last car for me😊
"except add 38 more horsepower ........." Failed basic math I see. Make that 28 more hp.
The trash a8 still holds the fastest whether n/a or boosted 1/4mile et and fastest trap over the a10 no matter the platform 🤷♂️
12@120? I ran 11.6@124 in my 17 cts v with a bad injector. Also ran a 1.7 60" on some crappy off brand tires. Whoever owned it before didn't take very good care of it and actually put flowmasters on a cts v
CT’s v looks amazing in black, Still think darth Vader would pic the v over the black wing
I take the CTS easy!!
Id definitely pick the older V....looks more aggressive
WHAT YEARS ARE YOU COMPARING HERE?
Young dude basically saying that ride sucks in a kind way 😂
Cts v is still an overall better looking car.
I disagree with most of what you said…I have a 2017 CTS-V. And I’ve driven a CT5V and yeah most of what you said is definitely your preference. But hey everyone’s different 🤷🏻♂️
