Here's my review of the Canon RF35mm f1.8 lens - one of the best value and versatile lenses on the RF system. Let me know if you want to see more lens reviews? Hoping Sigma starts making some of their great lenses for the RF mount soon. What do you think of the quality of this lens?
Dude that was really good and refreshing way to review this lens. I was ready for another plain boring video, but I was wrong 😅. You have some serious talent.
I was thinking of upgrading from GH4 to Canon because of autofocus speed but in your test this lens performed just about as good as mine. Is there a way to speed up the autofocus if you're not too concerned about the sound coming from the lens?
Hi thanks for the question - yes you can play around with the AF speed and servo track sensitivity/responsiveness in the camera menus to improve speed somewhat, but this is never going to be the fastest focusing lens due to the price point. Other RF lenses or adapted EF may serve you better if moving to canon.
I like the 35 mm. And, I like the 85mm. I'm new to autofocus and digital. But I prefer 35 and 85, to 50 and 105, to work closer and for the angle-of-view.
I love this lens for its versatility, small size, light weight, and decent quality images. I noticed some chromatic aberration, but not surprising for a non-L. I decided to go with this instead of the soon to be released “nifty fifty” - to always have with me as a back-up lens, and for its large aperture. Easy to toss in my bag.
Yeah it’s great for that isn’t it. Really interested to test the new 50mm and see how it compares, I remember the ef version being my first non kit lens back in 2010 and was blown away by the quality for the money, think it was £60 back then.
Thanks for the review i am going to purchase one now for my R5 for street photography. I am told this is a sharper lens than the RF50 so fingers crossed.
Hi, I am thinking about diving into an RF system. Thinking of buying this lens and 50mm f1.8 also. Is see the lens protruding outwards of its body when focusing. Can you still mount a variable ND filter onto such a lens? I am more of a video shooter and most of the time my lenses always have a VND filter mounted. Thanks!
Hi yes, I’m not a massive fan of the design of these cheaper Canon lenses (with the protruding barrel when focusing) but yes it has a thread on the front of the lens for mounting filters like a vnd. Depends what you are doing with it and your budget, but you might be better off getting the 85mm f2 or the Samyang 85mm 1.4 to accompany this one? The RF 50mm 1.8 from what I’ve seen has some pretty major focus breathing and loud focusing motor. I’d also consider looking at some of the older ef lenses adapted as you may get better value for money. Hope that helps, let me know if you have any other questions. 😀
Very nice review! I was considering this lens but ended up getting the 85mm f2 for the extra reach and separation. Like you said, for the price, it’s a no brainer.
@@cameracravings3216 I love it. I mainly use it for my food photography, being about 1:2 macro is very handy for the way I shoot. I've heard for video there can be some focusing issues but for stills it's awesome, and great value
I have Heard this before how a lense cant cope with a high mp camera and i dont understand it. I was watching another youtuber show eos r and r5 and couldnt see a difference so there is 15mp difference and the files are hard to notice any increase in res. Also you hear that its all about the glass. And sensor differences are so minor in great conditions. Id like to see at maximum magnification an RP $1000 camera with an rf 1.2 slapped on it. And an r5 with the same lense. See how much of a difference a sensor really makes. I suspect hard to tell. If you had this 35mm 1.8 on the r5 and an L lense on the RP im sure the r5 would be the lower res images of the two set ups

I was on the fence about purchasing this lens, but after your review I will definitely get it for my EOS R.
Nice presentation and review. Thanks for sharing.
Fantastic photos. Lovely little lens

You can also try to adapt another 35mm lens from the EF stable (35mm f/2 IS is the next smallest one) and the AF will speed up.
Great review and fantastic shots! Are those Raw or JPEG images? Thanks
Great informative video. All the info I was looking for. Thank you.

you will love the RF 28mm Pancake STM...... OOOH yeah baby .......

Glad you found it useful - I’ve only used the rf50 very briefly, but I’d agree with that, from my experience the 35 is sharper.
Nice videography. Well done !
Just ordered mine. Will hopefully complement my RF 70-200 F2.8 well, for shorter focal and video.

Thanks! It's hard to choose, maybe I'll look into ef2rf adapter and some older ef lenses...
Definitely get something longer like an 85 to go with the 35, 50 isn’t that much longer tbh and 35/85 has always been my fav combo

I went with the 85mm f2 too for my R6 and love it
Thanks! Yeah the 85mm is one of the next ones on my list to try out. How have you found it?

Thanks for watching 👍🏻
Excellent review...thank you.
Thanks for watching 😀
I wonder of this lens works with Canon RP? I don't know much about camera lens.
Yes should work fine with the RP
It works great with the Canon RP and R6. The lens was made for the R cameras :)
@@zujiawu thank you 😊

Yeah that would be a good test, might see if I can hire an RP to try that 👍
@@cameracravings3216 im sure youll get better images from an rp than an r5
If you put the superior lense on it.
@@cameracravings3216 i havent seen a vid like it before
What are your favourite lenses for the R5?
So far the 70-200 f2.8 and the 28-70f2
