I was down in Chicago and they had a small pond they just stock with trout and the fishermen were shoulder to shoulder and catching them one after another and you could tell they were having a great time to me that's money well spent by the DNR.

Just the difference of environment, change in gear, and to see the fish biting in different climates and h20 temps is nice too 👍 quality in video as well.

I have a few different trick that I learned over the years. I don’t fish opening day but most of the rest of the year. It’s amazing how many trout are left through the summer, fall and winter months.
Two big go tos for me is a 7 inch leader with a size 6 or 4 or 1 baitholder hook. I tie a 7-inch leader with a baitholder hook and use a light rubber core weight so the line doesn't get damaged. I then use a soft 2 inch grub worm with trophy bass and fish crush it in pressured water. Also a drop shot with a 6 to 8 inch leader with a 3/0 light wire circle hook with a finess worm. Or a mullet colored shad with a nightcrawler by procure or trophy bass.
My parents only wanted 3 fish and I already had 3 on the stringer when I caught the 14 incher. Someone else will get to catch it and have a nice meal 🙂

Wouldn't going up to the Kern in April be a little too early? I would think the spring run off would make it high and hard to fish. Been in the Sierra's a few times in June and some of the waters were still flowing pretty strong.
@@jessemellingeriii5244 Snowpack feeding the rivers is only 2/3 of normal this year. At my favorite reservoir, it’s a quarter mile hike from the boat ramp to the water.

I was just saying that if you don't live in the area and don't know about all the conditions that effect water levels and have to travel a ways to get there, you are better off waiting until after the spring runoff so you will have good water conditions to fish.
you can catch them same fish with bread ball on hook and cheap handling instead of all the gear mentioned and who don't know rainbows like mealworms..net some stone nymphs put them on a size 22 hook with split shot and you'll catch every trout in the creek and for lakes use a quarter stick taped to a brick lite the fuse toss it in and net all the fish that float up...haha
I hope someone in TN sees this. I have a question that so far the gov can’t answer. Can I fish trout with just a regular fishing license? I don’t want to keep any.
I’m not sure how TN works but I do buy licenses in WV, VA, MD and PA. And typically you have to buy a “freshwater fishing license” and a “trout stamp”. They are separate.
@@jlibertyparks8160 even if you aren’t keeping any. If you fish in stocked trout water or wild trout water you usually need a trout stamp. Just call Tennessee DNR and ask. They’ll tell you what you need 👍🏻
Where I live "recently stocked" means 10 retired guys following the truck to ensure most fish are gone within 3 days.
