  • Hey Bimmer Bros! In todays upload we find a serious problem with our AFM. We explore different ways to fix the issue as it looks like someone had opened it up in the past. We also replaced the rotting fuel lines going to our injectors and as we all may already know, the injectors definitely deserved a good cleaning! It also gave us the opportunity to use our AUTOOL injector machine for the E12 and get better fuel delivery to this 40 year old chariot.

Just found out about your guys’ channel, and can’t wait to see more videos with the e12. Have one myself that I’m currently restoring but has been put on hold.. but seeing you guys work on it makes me want to get back on it again. Lol.
Goodluck with the build and excited to see where this goes.

Hey man! Thanks for the comment and we are happy to hear that it's inspiring you to get back on it! Don't give up on it man it's an amazing classic. This month has been slow for us on UA-cam due to big changes coming to the shop but once next month rolls around we are coming back with regular uploads and that will definitely include more E12 work! If you're in the San Diego area come through 🤙

Hello. I have a BMW E12 528i, US version. Your AFM calibration is incorrect. It might run better but fuel mixture will never be accurate. I had the exact same issue and I bought an AEM AFR Gauge. It helped me a lot to get the optimal AFR values. Anyway, great job. I wish you guys all the best!

Brezy thanks for the comment! 👋 Absolutely, in no way do we assume that the AFR after the adjustment gave it a great mixture but it did allow the car to be drivable which it wasn't before. Very good point! We will look into a gauge to be able to calibrate correctly 🙂

Those injector hoses are such a pain in the ass! I have LOTS of experience messing with the AFM on the L-jetronic setup... and you know what bro... I'm pretty sure I had mixed them up and i feel super bad. I think that MUST have been the one out of MY turbo car before i converted to megasquirt! The one that I still have is the one that came from that car I bet, I had some 30lb upgraded stock style injectors and the AFM was set 7 notches on the spring tighter than stock! It was set with a wideband and running the AFM pre-turbo... I'm actually really sorry about that man as soon as i saw you pushing on the AFM door I knew it had to be the one i was running. Glad to see you got it sorted.. I hope it wasn't too much of a headache. We can swap if you want but that one should work great once adjusted right. Mine ran best all stock with it 3 notches loosened from OE position, I assumed it was to account for the ethanol in the fuel. If you ever have any questions hit me up.

Dude no worries at all!! I didn't want to immediately think it was your old one because I know this car went through the ringer before you got it so I just assumed it was an experiment from long ago 😂 but now that you tell me this it's making a lot more sense haha! I'm thinking about loosening a few more notches like you said because it does seem to be on the rich side! Let us know when you want to drop by bro! Maybe you can help with the timing 🥹

@@superbimmerbros the looser the AFM spring the faster and easier the door will open, the further the door is open the richer it will be. Theres also an air bypass screw adjustment specifically for idle mixture on it! on that screw the tighter you set it, the less air bypasses the door and the further it will open. it only effects idle and very light load low rpm operation. It looked like it went more than it may have needed
