My name is Yana, and welcome to The Scented!
This is a very exciting video for me, because I finally decided to spend the money and get one of my favourite perfumes of all time - Byredo Bal D'Afrique! I've had several dupes throughout the years and never felt compelled to by a full bottle as I didn't find it long lasting when I had tested it. HOWEVER... I found it for a relatively reasonable price on Premiere Avenue and purchased it there for 180€...which worked out to about $280 CAD and I'm okay with that!
Here's my review of Byredo Bal D'Afrique, a little info on the historical significance of the name and why I love it so much :)

Everything you said is soo on point. I bought blind and I did fall in love with it as soon as I sprayed it on. My first time I wore it was a warm summer night with a cool breeze and that is how I describe sconce it is so unique. I need to purchase the lotion and hair mist too.. it is addicting

Hi. Bal d'afrique is also my favorite fragrance from Byredo! And I also immediately thought about the colour orange! That's funny you mentioned it. This fragrance is so unique and happy and just makes me smile.
LOVE your review! I love this perfume too- I got a sample and then bought the bigger size and the only other that I bought was Almaz- you'll love it too and both are my signature scents now :)

Bal D Afrique is great and yes it does make you feel positive and leads you in a good mood. The first thing that came into my mind when i first tried it was the rainbow. The colours of the rainbow. Nice video.

Great choice😁it is also one of my fav💙on me it's quite airy and woody, loove it and I keep getting that slight woody aroma all throughout the day😍not the best in terms of projection or sillage, but honestly I don't even care as long as I'm set for at least 4-5 hours on my skin, clothes even longer😍

I fell in love with Byredo fragrances after staying at a hotel that had byredo le chemin lotion, shampoo, soap, and body wash. I've been hooked ever since, but still haven't pulled the trigger on buying myself many bottles of the fragrances. I enjoyed this review!
Yes!! That's exactly where my lotion is from - a friend of mine brought it back for me after staying at that hotel.

Bal d’afrique is also in my top five favourite fragrances. That is a great price for the large bottle! I layer it with the body cream to make it last just a little longer. I agree with your description of the colour, I too see orange, a yellowy orange. Great great fragrance! Love your videos! ❤️

I have been shopping with Premier Avenue for sometime now and I was always so impressed how many complimentary niche samples they include. And I also bought my Bal d’Afrique from them. They do carry a lot of hard to get niche for very good price. 💞

@@harishnalopez4710 Not longer than 3 weeks, most of the time faster. very decent timing considering its coming from France. Never had timing issues. If there was any delays, they kept me updated. Great communication from the compony as well.

They're actually so good, I'm very happy with this order. I also noticed they have MFK for a tiny bit less than usual
Congrats of the acquisition of such a great fragrance Yana. Since you love this fragrance you should get your nose on Boadicea the Victorious Hanuman. Smells very similar, just richer and lasts longer.

Do a first impressions on the samples! Atomic Rose is my top rose for now, getting a refill on my decant to give it a good testing, but it might really be bottle worthy.
I kept thinking about what the scent reminds me of and I can't help but it reminds me a lot of Cacharel Noa, but it's less sweet and less intense. But it smells very similar, at least to my nose...and is nice... :)

I haven’t heard of this perfume yet. Thanks for sharing! I recently purchased Tom Ford Bitter Peach. I sprayed it in store and loved it. However after using it a few times I’m a little disappointed. So after that experience I’ve decided to always use a tester a few times before any splurge. Can you please share where I can get a tester of the perfume you are showing this time. Thanks!

I’m trying bal d’afrique sample right now and love it...but like you said, it doesn’t last as long as I wish it would...and not sure if it projects very much. What are your thoughts on it now...Did you find that the bottle last longer on the skin and did layering it help? Do you think it’s worth it now? Thanks! ❤️
I love it , it is like the best of Light Blue 9not the washing powder side!) with added banana peel. Unfortunately to light and small projection, only summer scent for me, but best possible 'yummy' summer scent :)

Ah, Bal d’Afrique...my (very fashionable and knowledgeable about all things fragrance) Mom adores this scent and I love it on her. It’s not a profile I’m drawn to wear personally but it really is gorgeous. Well done, lovely. 😊
My fav Byredo is Black Saffron!!!
Yes, beginning is a reminder of a La labo fragrance. Not in scent but in development. It takes time for everthing to fall into place and then, that is when the true Beauty shines on this one. Not sure if it is for me because I had only one test of this at the Boutique. Will try again. I dislike going anywhere these days. Damn covid and masks. I am glad this scent brings you much joy. With being inside much more it is a must that one wear mood enhancing fragrances. Especially at night for calmness. My absolute calming scent at night even my Wife loves, imagine that, is Encore noir A Lextreme. It is like nothing else. Happy for you. Another job starting Monday the 25th should be much more fitting. The last one was a complete disaster. So I had a intervention with my Rock of a Wife and a old friend of hers who is a certified life coach. Thank God for you Women. Changed my meds and my constant sadness that would just make me cry for no reason and my anger cleared up in just one night. Let's hope as I go up in dosage it stays on the positive side. I wanted to share that with you my Friend who has always been there. Thank you Yana. That is why I would say Love you as a freind. It means so much when people listen and not shut the door in my face. It must be from my Mother the reason for liking Women more than men. Enough of me. At some point I have to send you a gift. Laurent Mazzone is a good brand. If there was Sensual Orchid - I feel that you gonna love it.
But my favs is Scandinavian Crime (oh lord! My #1 niche scent for fall!) and Kingdom of Dreams (so smoky & mysterious, love it)

Oh, I’ve ordered from a premier avenue a bunch! They have great prices. I have a 5mL of Bal D’Afrique just has TERRIBLE longevity. I preferred the dupe at Dossier. I can’t justify the price for something that doesn’t last.

I own this fragrance along with the body cream and shower gel as well. I have it in a video on my channel of the best signature scents. This is def an amazing signature scent fragrance🥰
Try using Blanche and mix it up with Dior tea CACHEMIRE you will be amazed

And whats your experience about the projection and longivety ?
@@mimienmelmiya8121 on me it lasts for 5-6 hours on the skin, on clothes longer.
Projection is about an arms lenght, maybe a bit more first 1-2 hours.
So it’s not great but I don’t mind that it’s closer to the skin.
I got a sample of the bodylotion with purchase and when I combined it with the perfume it both projected and lasted better.

I don't know why people think that it does not last for long. I was fearful at first... But sprayed on my sweater and 48 hrs later still smelled so great. I thinks people don't understand the softness yest very resilient nature of this fragrance! It's actually one of the long lasting perfumes out there! I love it!
I know the body cream last a long time and smells better as the hours go by imo.

It is very good, but it's a little less sweet than the real thing. It is long lasting though!

I'm trying a Bal D'Afrique sample today and love it! Which of the dupes you tried of this was the closest? Before I splurge, I'm considering oil perfumery due to reviews but I'm unsure.
The oil Perfumery dupe is pretty good, there's a really great dupe from Fredrico Mahora! That's a spray fragrance though, not an oil

Love at first sniff too. “At first”. I have a full bottle of this fragrance that I never use anymore as I find it’s too cloying, to the point that it makes me nauseous. Bal d’Afrique’s twin, Hermes Vetiver Tonka is so much smoother and more wearable imo.

so with the parfume, hair mist, body cream and shower gel.........which one did you use most? would you purchase hair mist, shower gel, body cream again?
I use both the hair mist and the fragrance a lot. The lotion is amazing too but I wouldn't repurchase the body cream or body wash. I didn't like the texture of the cream (too heavy) and the scent didn't stay on the skin as long as the lotion
How similar would you say the Oil Perfumery version of this is to the original now that you own both?
About 80%. It's not their closest one but still gives a good idea of the scent

I'm telling you, as God as my Witness, if you like Byredo D' Afrique, do yourself a favor and try out Eight and Bob Nuit de MEGEVE!!! Hands down the best rendition of that scent profile you'll find , believe me when I tell you this!! Again, at least give it a try! Not expensive either! You'll love it! Great video!!

‘Bal’ is the best. However the batch I bought at a department store was much better and stronger than the one purchased online at FragranceNet. So the batch and strength may differ depending where purchased.

There is one from Fredrico Mahora, i haven't tried any others aside from fragrance oils (which are great too)

Yes, the hair mist is great! If you spray on clothing it lasts an okay amount of time
Bal D'Afrique is nice-like lemon cream pie. I personally am refraining from being so fragrance obsessed and am now crypto obsessed. It is important to invest and not to throw every dollar down the drain.
I've bought 2 bottles of Bal d'Afrique, and eventually gave them away to my teenage nephew, cos the scent is just too... fresh and clean? I prefer thick, syrupy, heavy orientals, like Absolue Pour le Soir from Francis Kurkdjian, and honeyed Middle-Eastern spice fragrances like Arabie by Serge Lutens. I think Bd'A is perfect for young guys in their 20s, though!
Bal d’afrique was quite disappointing imo, it’s citrusy, clean, slightly fruity and the performance is average if not bellow average.
And yes would love a video about your favorite fragrances of all time.
I have to agree. My main issue with Byredo in general is performance. Bal d'afrique smells good on me if it's high summer and I'm really sweaty. I'm OK with it in summer when I need something super light, but it doesn't perform otherwise.

Generic perfume oils makes an oil version which you can wear alone or with the perfume to bulk it up. I am not associated with the brand in any way but own many of their oils, great selection and quality.
