I bought mine in '87. I love it although admittedly I don't have much experience with other guns to compare it to. I remember the salesman pushing me toward the S&W but the Ruger was on sale for $289.00 and I was a broke kid. Plus my grandfather had a Security 6 he'd let me shoot from time to time. A handgun magazine had an article back then saying if you only owned one gun it should be a .357 I'm sure many would argue that now but it has served me well. I even shot a deer with it three years ago.
I got the 4.2 inch 6 days ago on January 12, 2022 and this thing is a beast it’s my EDC one the best revolvers I own out of 74 gun collection hands down it rocks there’s not anything I can’t shoot out of it this thing definitely is a Tank it’s a must have 👍
I believe the warning stamped into the barrel is the result of a lawsuit against Ruger back in the early 1970's. I think it was the same lawsuit that prompted the New Model Blackhawks with the transfer bar safety system. If Ruger had not been sued, the warning stamped into the barrel would not be there. You can blame it on a litigious society, but I would not want to give up the right to sue a company for possible negligence if the situation warranted. One freedom for another, I guess. Btw, I owned that exact model GP100 about 15 years ago. I wish I never sold it. I think I paid around $500 back in the early 2000's.
Here it is March 2022 and I just bought one of these Ruger GP100 357 Magnum with a 4.2 in Barrel and the price that I paid was $856 with tax. But it was the only one they had left so like they say the time to buy it is when you see it. And ammo for it was $37 for a box of 50
The little hole on the end of the barrel contains a plunger. Press it in and you can easily change the front sight. A wonderful design! Sadly they don't have in on the newer Redhawks due the sleeve and shroud barrel design.
I am getting one just now. First revolver I will buy. I only havent decided am I geting 4.2 or 6 inch. I have carry permit and 4.2 would be easier to carry and cocncel but 6 inch is 6 inch. Bit more range and velocity.
@@theevenstevenchannel8220 would be great to find 5 inch seems like a sweet spot. But unfortunatly I got only 4.2 and 6 in offer at the store, eventualy if I find used 5 inch.
I bought one about one month ago and am i a little disappointing, the product is built like a tank, but the quality is very poor the barrel is canted, burrs all over in the trigger housings and the frame by the cylinder also large gap between the cylinder and forcing cone this’s definitely not the way they used to be I think this is not the time to by a firearm with such a big demand the quality goes down hill thank you for the video well done
When you call your gun manual literature lolz Great firearm I just picked one up but its 6 in blued with the Hogue grips but Im going to change them out for some Hogue wood grips like a cherry red wood. Beautiful firearm I plan on this being my primary home defense weapon.
The contour on the left side of the grip is to accommodate a speed loader.
The copper looking pin is not just for a trigger job, but for routine disassembly. The manual explains how to use it.

Unfortunately, that all sounds about right.
I have got one in 4 inch I got a steal on in 2010. I love mine. That six inch barrel is sweet. That is a very nice example from a good time period.
I just bought a used gp100 in 6 inch stainless just like yours 660.00 with the original box with the first fired shell I love it
The brass pin is for taking out the main spring.
I have the 454 casull the 44 mag redhawk and the 357 gp 100 and love them all. The best dam revolvers made.
They will handle all hot loads no problem.
I have the 4.2 inch barrel for ETC , I did change out the front sights which was easy to do in minutes.

Awesome video thanks for sharing. Save that pin. You need that if you ever need to do a trigger job. Stay well and safe
beautiful gun.. than ever it!!!
Love it more than the S and W 686 Awesome firearm..
I just got a triger job on mine and very pleased with it
Very good!!!
Great revolver!
I had one on these for deer hunting
It's still a good deal at today's price, inflation is with us. Thanks.

The 6-inch is a bit much. There is a less common 5-inch that I'd be interested in seeing one day.

If you are intrested in selling please keep me posted.
Can you use .38 special +p with these?
Yes. My understanding is that no .38 Special load will be more powerful than .357 Magnum.
Yes. Page 12 of owners manual says 38 special + P is acceptable ammo
Awesome I love this revolver.
