So the Grammys were prestigious when Artist you grew up with were winning. I guess Kendrick Lamar Lauryn Hill Beyonce Adele Taylor swift and countless other musicians aren’t great or talented😂😂😂 old heads can’t help but be haters
@Nomorequestionz62 Again all of the aforementioned are very talented. But Aretha had something special. She had an anointing. A gift that often brought listeners to tears. A gift that prompted Chris Cuomo, formerly of CNN to say the following: "if you dont believe in God, thats your prerogative. But how can anyone hear this woman sing and not know there must be a God". She had a gift that prompted Terry Gross of NPR radio to surmise that Aretha was perhaps one of the greatest singers of all time. She had a gift that prompted her father to tell her as a child, that one day, she'd sing before kings, queens and presidents. And it all came to pass. Aretha was so gifted, the Rock and Roll hall of fame, selected her to be the first woman to be inducted. May I add, Im a singer. There's nothing the singers you mentioned do vocally that I cant mimic. But there are thinks the queen does that I cant even touch. Not to mention, shes the only artist Ive seen who's entrance onto a stage elicits an ovation so rousing, its as though she'd already sang. Im just saying.
I became an instant Aretha fan when this came out, not really knowing her prior history of classics. I always knew good music when I heard it, no matter how young I was...❤
Today is 03/28/2024... I will never never never even come close to Aretha's voice....learning this tune for a performance with my band..Aretha, have mercy on me from heaven!!!💖
Aretha Franklin is still singing while Clarence Clemmons is playing his soulful saxophone. What a beautiful place Heaven must be, with all this amazing music
Aretha Franklin is not dead. Her amazing powerhouse voice and legacy still lives on. Just like other divas and divos who aren't with us physically anymore like Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, David Bowie, Prince, Eartha Kitt, Selena, Ella Fitzgerald, Elvis Presley, Amy Winehouse, Elizabeth Taylor, Farrah Fawcett, Adam West, Marilyn Monroe and many more.
My dad retired 42 yrs from Ford Mo Co. he’s passed on now in 1999. He retired from Ford when the plant closed down in pico Rivera many years ago …had lots of relatives that work at GM too.. one of my uncles was a superintendent of GM and my dad was head of quality control at Ford..
There is a reason Aretha is #1 on Rolling Stone's Top 200 All Time Greatest Singers List and this recording is PROOF! Aretha was simply on another level spiritually and emotionally. What a gift from God! 😇👍❤️🙏
As an 80s baby this was one of the first songs I recall enjoying in life. Later would discover how beyond talented this lady was. Thank you Aretha! RIP.
I remember seeing this video when I was probably 7-8 years old on MTV. Back when MTV was good and played some great music. What a great time it was to grow up.
When her funeral was over and they came out with her casket, there were several hundred Pink Cadillacs outside. I thought that was a beautiful tribute to her.
I think this is Aretha's greatest video. She had been out of the music scene for a while, and this video was her return. And she proved to the world that the Queen of Soul still got it.
Today marks three years since Aretha Franklin passed away. I was 12 when this song was a hit, and I still enjoy it! Keep resting in peace, Queen Of Soul.
I used to live down the street from Aretha in suburban Detroit, She was a wonderful person, no diva-dude about her at all. She was very gracious, very thoughtful, a fantastic cook and an incredible singer. I miss her so much and feel so privileged to have been one of her neighbors.
This is the first song that I ever heard from Aretha, I do Uber and been driving around listening to Aretha’s greatest hits as I do Uber and for some reason this isn’t on the greatest hits album, it’s ok, at least we can create a playlist

Jun 1985, The Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin arrived on the streets with the Freeway of Love and I totally remember this video that jam had me dancing while my father would be driving everytime it came in the radio. That wink she did towards the end lets you know that she deserve that r.e.s.p.e.c.t. where it says on the pink Cadillac's name tag as the video's end comes in color. Rip Re-Re you're on that Freeway of Heavenly Love
THE SPIRIT OF DEE-TROIT!!! The city has experienced hard times but it's bouncing back. You can't kill Detroit because Detroiters are a tough breed. Aretha was a strong lady, and she will always be Detroit. This is the greatest music video ever made. R.I.P., Queen of Soul, Queen of Detroit.
Agreed. The city is very well represented here; then a municipality of 1.5 million within the city limits...5th largest in the nation population-wise. Franklin embodies that spirit of Detroit.
I remember my grandmother Doris who was a die hard Aretha fan and my father a preacher were playing the piano and organ in my grandmother house one Saturday. They were playing a gospel tone, my father on the organ my grandmother playing the piano and out of nowwhere my grandmother bust out in the middle of the song, "We going riding on the freeway" made my father so angry cause she would bust out a Aretha song all the time. She loved her some Aretha! Rest in Paradise Queen, you run into my grandmother, which Im sure u have already, tell her I said Hello, I love her and the family is doing fine.
This song makes me so happy, so much energy and upbeat. Calling Aretha as "The Queen of soul" is a sort of an understatement, she's one of the greatest vocalist, if not she's the greatest of all.
This is one of my favorite song of all time it's never going to die it's going to keep on rolling and rolling hit song by Aretha Franklin love is a freeway three-way love

The Summer of 1985 was AWESOME!! I was eight and I remember seeing this gem in heavy rotation on MTV☺!! What I like about this video, is that nearly everyone looks like they are having a great time!! I guess the Queen of Soul has that positive vibe on people.
Aretha brought positive vibe on folks since her 1967 smash "Respect" until her passing in 2018!! Everyone here in this video, as one of her other hits would say, Rock Steady!
Today has been a very sad day for a lot of people around the world, we all got experience a one of a kind soul such as yourself Aretha. You have now taken your journey on to a better place and left us all behind to carry on your legacy. My thoughts and prayers go out to your family. R.I.P Aretha Franklin god speed home
The Queen is gone, but she will never be forgotten. More than an artist, she was an Legend and a inspiration to anyone who ever was blessed to hear her sing.
Arista Records released this song on June 5, 1985. I've lived in the Detroit area my whole life and a lot has changed in 38 years, but Aretha Franklin (1942-2018) will always be the Queen of Soul. Rolling Stone just ranked her #1 among the 200 Greatest Singers of All Time. "Respect" is #1 on the 500 Best Songs of All Time list. "Good night, sweet Queen. May flights of angels sing to thee in thy rest...." (Adapted from Act V, Scene 2 of "Hamlet").
Holy cow, I didn't realize Clarence Clemons played on this! Makes it even better
Excellent saxophonist.
Legend! Love him in Bill teds excellent adventure 😅
Clarence Clemons blew some mean sax on this song. Love me some Aretha!
Back when the Grammys were worth something and awarded for talent not fame. The Queen Of Soul was freakishly talented. ❤❣️😍

She was among the most exceptional singers that ever came out of the music industry before it died. That voice is just unmistakable. She was doing seriously good work from before Motown as a thing. And she certainly was prolific---hit, after hit, after hit. Very first song I ever heard her sing is "Sweet/Bitter Love", and every song of hers became a favorite of mine after that. She will never be gone. The power of her voice and her music live on forever. Nothing that comes out of today's garbage 'music' industry comes even close.
A lot of her hits were done with the Swampers from Muscle Shoals.
Must agree with your opinion of today's 'garbage' music. Not only is it uninspiring, and soul-less, but often it is so bad that I turn it off a half-minute into it.
Queen Aretha, simply the greatest singer ever! That's the amazing Mr Narada Michael Walden on drums!
Jun 1985, The Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin arrived on the streets with the Freeway of Love and I totally remember this video that jam had me dancing while my father would be driving everytime it came in the radio.

This song makes me so happy, so much energy and upbeat. Calling Aretha as "The Queen of soul" is a sort of an understatement, she's one of the greatest vocalist, if not she's the greatest of all.
That's what soul music generally does. It's medicine.
yes she’s the greatest of all time.

Aretha brought positive vibe on folks since her 1967 smash "Respect" until her passing in 2018!! Everyone here in this video, as one of her other hits would say, Rock Steady!
Daniel, Her bands are so awesome and she puts you in the M-O-O-D!
I was born that year! 85! Yassss!! I was probably like 6 months old when this song came out. No wonder why I love this song so much! Hahaha
I was the same age. What a great time to grow up. The 80’s were awesome.
Love this song (after all these years). Love (and miss the '80's) and positively LOVE that blonde playing the guitar.
She's in the fast lane leading up to the almighty
The Queen is gone, but she will never be forgotten. More than an artist, she was an Legend and a inspiration to anyone who ever was blessed to hear her sing.
Sharon Johnson yes
Arista Records released this song on June 5, 1985. I've lived in the Detroit area my whole life and a lot has changed in 38 years, but Aretha Franklin (1942-2018) will always be the Queen of Soul. Rolling Stone just ranked her #1 among the 200 Greatest Singers of All Time. "Respect" is #1 on the 500 Best Songs of All Time list.
"Good night, sweet Queen. May flights of angels sing to thee in thy rest...." (Adapted from Act V, Scene 2 of "Hamlet").
Freeway of Love and Who's Zoomin' Who are not just two of my favorite 80s Aretha joints, but two of my favorite 80s joints period!
I love her open handed gestures by her grinning face in this video.
Yes, especially at 0:24
a high priestess thing
Lovely lady, she will be so very missed, so damn sad :( Bless you Aretha XX
She was pure class. Beyoncé, Madonna, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, and others couldn’t hold a candle to her.
An amazing lady with a beautiful voice. She is truly the queen of soul
