    New subscriber, I like your info on motor mounts. I just bought a 2005 CTS-V and it vibrates a lot. At first I thought it was the Magnaflow cat back exhaust but I am thinking it might be motor mounts. Do you have any tips on testing motor mounts to see if they need replacing? Mine look good and I can see no sign of liquid leakage. Also some guys mention that if you watch the top of the V-8 when it is running and then when the ignition is turned off the engine may buck a bit or move a bit if the mounts are bad. Unfortunately, mine seems rock steady when the ignition is turned off. Maybe the liquid drained out from a crack that I can't see from my viewing angles. The car vibrates at idle really badly, it almost feels like an exhaust pipe is up against the frame but we checked it up on a hoist and there is clearance every where around the pipes. Have you heard of any cases where the motor mounts appear to be ok but when removed they are faulty?
    Thanks for your info I like your videos.

      thanks for the question. Your mounts could have leaked long ago and you do not have any liquid remaining to see under the car. You can carefully feel around the mount while the car is on jack-stands to determine if you have any cracks. If these are the original mounts, and you are either approaching or have passed 100k miles, they likely need to be replaced. The vibration in the car featured in my video was HORRIBLE until I replaced the mounts. Absolute amazing difference.

      Cadillac Dealership says the GM book says 6 hours to change the motor mounts. How long did it take you? Can I ask a quick question about trying to use a scanner to detect a misfire at idle (with no CEL codes logged): Do you know a way to find the misfire counts on an early OBD2 car like my 2005 CTS-V? It would make life easy being able to see which cylinder is misfiring. Failing that I was going to connect a vacuum gauge and compare the drops in vacuum as I short out the spark to one cylinder at a time. Can you suggest a good method to find which cylinder is misfiring? Thanks for any suggestions.

    I have a 09 CTS RWD & I changed out the motor mounts to solid(non liquid) ones. The car vibrates only when turning and accelerating at the same time. Driving straight is fine. Do you know what the issue can be?

    • @DrivingIntelligence
      @DrivingIntelligence  6 місяців тому +1

      This is similar to what happened when I put non-OEM style motor mounts on my 1985 Mustang SVO. When accelerating, you're increasing the load on the motor mount(s) which transmits more vibration into the vehicle. Also, when turning, centrifugal force does the same thing, loading up the motor mount opposite the direction of the turn. I ended up returning my Mustang to stock motor mounts and this eliminated the problem,.

    Has nothing to do with the transmission, Have you ever experienced your ABS/TC light going off and on? I am starting to experience this on my V. I'm hoping it's only one of the speed wheel sensors going bad on one of the front hubs.

    • @DrivingIntelligence

      thanks for reaching out. I've not experienced this on my V, but I did correct this on a Jeep Wrangler: ua-cam.com/video/e8AIsHspd5Q/v-deo.html - do you have a check engine light? Have you run codes? Let me know what DTC's you uncover.

      other times I will leave for work and it will come on randomly while i'm on the freeway. I'm going to pull all the wheels off and check the abs and speed connections and hopefully find a wire or hub that needs replacement.

      Our V’s put out a lot of brake dust that can cause a problem with the sensors. Might just need cleaning.

    Hi. Can I ask you a question about my cts. Is an 06 cts @48k miles. Which has me.more confused to what it could be since it was driven very little in the past 15 years.🤗 I think my problem I am experiencing goes back this area you worked on. My car began making a 'clunking' noise when shifting from P to D. Not when shifting to R or N only when D. I noticed my car sorta wobbles from the back area when on hwy. I thought it was a tire balance issue but now I am sure it has to do with the bushins. Or definitely engine/trans mount. Help? Thank you

    • @DrivingIntelligence
      @DrivingIntelligence  3 роки тому +2

      Hi, there could be several issues. It could be bushings, but a clunk noise could be drive-line linkage, transmission or a rear end problem. If you can, and do this VERY SAFELY, put car on ramps, have the wheels chocked front and back, the emergency brake on and have someone move the gear selector from park, to reverse, to neutral, to drive and back. See if you can isolate where the clunk is coming from. Do not get under the vehicle while doing this! Try to observe from the side of the vehicle to protect yourself. Let me know! And PLEASE SUBSCRIBE!

      @@bybylove9178 ok, thanks for that info. With regard to delay, it could be your transmission is low on fluid. That would be the easiest check. If the fluid is full, check the quality of the fluid, it should be a bright red / pink, not dark and black. If the fluid is dark, then you should minimally have the pan drained and replace the filter. Do not flush the transmission. This might cause additional problems, you just want some fresh fluid. I found this site for checking your fluid level. ua-cam.com/video/clb-Xw-RVPY/v-deo.html

      @@joshcarpenter7303 you can check this by opening the hood and having someone shift from Park to Reverse to Neutral to Drive and see how much the engine moves. Put your foot on the brake and give it some gas while having your foot on the brake and see how much the engine moves. If the engine moves significantly from right to left while looking at it seated in the car, it's the passenger side mount, and visa versa.
