Glad it didn't break a piston and kill the block. 454 cranks are cheap and really a stroker crank isn't that bad. Looks like you could open the ring gaps and go to 200hp on the bottle. Those old junk 454s are really pretty strong.

I’m so glad it didn’t kill the block. Could have been soooo much worse! I’m glad it’s rebuildable.

I feel your pain. I just built a 427 for my '76 C10 and the oil pick up tube swiveled down and suctioned against the oil pan. then we got the 2nd one and tack welded the pick up tube to the oil pump....the weld broke. I ended up finding a factory welded one on summit racing's website and have been running strong with that one. Luckily, I hadn't stood on her too bad yet. I did pull a few rod caps and looked at the bearings and all looked good. So this spring I'm dropping the hammer!! Good luck to ya, I'll be watching.

Holy cow that would be infuriating! I knew better than to not weld that pickup tube. But I saw that bracket and was like “hey look! Neat! 🤦🏻‍♂️🙄
Hope you enjoyed the video! Cause things can only go up from here! 😎🚜💨

I think Melling has that billet oil pump that doesn’t use a pick up tube! It just reaches down to the bottom of the pan. It may be a worthwhile upgrade. Glad the block is good though!

Definitely worth looking into! I KNEW BETTER than to not weld it, but I saw that bracket and was like “oh cool! Bracket!” 🤦🏻‍♂️🙄
I’m thankful the block is good. Hopefully soon we can get that ole c10 back to pulling the front tires! 😎🚜💨

Top left bell housing bolt on the engine stand shifted when you let the hoist down. Don't let it bite ya!!

Ole eagle eye! Lol. Yeah, it seems like they all settled a bit. The engine stand mounts are a much larger hole than the bellhousing bolts. I really should make a sleeve or something for that. It’s always bothered me, but obviously not enough to fix it lol

Maybe a new crank and forged pistons.

Tach Weld that pickup tube to the New Pump as well for CHEAP insurance Brother. That way if that happens to the bracket the tube will stay put! 👍🏼👍🏼

Absolutely! I knew better… I always tacked on the pickup tubes. But I saw that bracket and was like “oh that’s cool!” 🤦🏻‍♂️😂😂😂
Bet I won’t make that mistake again lol

As soon as you rotated it and could hear that…. I fucking knew what was gunna be in that pan.
Sucks but it’s fairly cheap fix..unless you are going to use it as an excuse to upgrade😂

    • @AllieCatCustoms
      @AllieCatCustoms  6 місяців тому +1

At first I thought something may have bumped the pan… then i was like “oh nooo not that! 🤦🏻‍♂️🙄” I was hoping that the baffles in the pan had broken loose or something and not the pickup tube, since I already had a baffle spot weld break free and cause a leak in the pan. But of course… it had to be the dang pickup tube.
I donno if you could tell or not, but I was pretty rattled and tried so hard to keep my composure but inside I was flipping out. I HATE dumb breakages. If I woulda grenaded the engine from abuse, cool… but something like that kills me lol.
Oh, and of course, any excuse to upgrade right?!

    • @josh2madden

I feel you on being a dumb breakage!! I’d rather have an engine auto delete parts because I got too carried away rather than some dumb crap.
I recently finished a 383 that I put way too much money into…
Damn thing was leaking because I put one half of the main seal in backwards🤦🏻‍♂️
Then would drop oil pressure on a pull… damn HV pump not getting the oil back quick enough.🤬

Dang! That would’ve driven me crazy too.
