I watch a lot of your how to videos, and you make it look simple enough to attempt and have confidence. This same procedure was quoted at 1300 for my 2006 a6 quattro 3.2
If you don’t feel comfortable, but a universal flexpipe (or a quality one, which I would) and go to a local welder. Ask around different shops and they’ll tell you a place to go. Shop by me told me $25 for my 09 cobalt
@@snehpetsgold9799 Yeah, it will be $50 at "that shop" if they provide the parts. I saw my guy go over to a bin, rummage around, and come back with an ID-OD coupler, which probably costs him $5, and yeah, two cuts, some cleaning, and two welds later, it's probably worth it. My shop also removed the rocket-shaped thingy on an old truck for pretty reasonable ... I asked him about keeping it and he said it would be more than the first quote. Yeah. I love living in a place where there's no emissions though!
Great video. I think it's worth mentioning - figure out why the first flex broke. On mine I had bad motor mounts that allowed lots of engine movement damaging the flex pipe.
Good job, looks good. I wondered why you didn't weld the extension pipe to the flex while off the car. Would have been easier since you have the option of the clamp install afterwards. That way only the front section to weld on the car. Quick question, are you using mild steel flux core wire or some other consumable?
You should disconnect the Negative on your battery before using welder on any vehicle or connect a welders battery serge protector thingy, have a nice day
Thank you for taking the time to make this great video. I have some follow-up questions, and I notice you replace the small flex pipe with a more significant component. Does the size of the flex pipe affect the engine? I had the flex pipe on my vehicle replaced, and the shop I went to replaced it with a much smaller component. I could not wait for two-to-three weeks to get the original part.
I have the exact same car and need to replace this flex pipe. How did you get a 1.75" diameter pipe to fit on a pipe with OD of ~2.3" just as you showed measuring it?
Hi I’m trying to locate this flex interlock on this video on your website but cannot locate it. I have the exact same 2006 Audi A4 2.0T Quattro and my flex pipe is rusted out with a hole. Can toy guide me to this piece on your website?
Looks that you set the blue mark and finally did cut the pipe too short to allow overlapping at both ends? And then you had to weld it also at the other end.
Hi, I was trying to locate this flex interlock on your website but was not able to locate it. I have the exact same vehicle which is the 2006 Audi A4 2.0T Quattro. Any way you guys can direct me to the item I am looking for? Thanks
Why wasn't the flex pipe welded to the short removeable pipe first? Could have made a perfect weld all the way around with no obstacles. Then reattached the pipe and welded the front of it. Work smarter not harder. Welding the pipe a foot from a clamp LOL shouldn't ditched the clamp and welded the whole thing
Hey that Audi's got a north-south engine, WTF does it need a flex pipe? None of my old straight-sixes & V8s bothered with flex pipes, so I thought they were only need for FWDs with east-west engines .
It's not absolutely necessary to weld it, and many at-home mechanics wouldn't. But the exhaust system is designed to be one continuous pipe, so that's the proper way to repair it. It's how most muffler repair shops would do it. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com?UA-cam&CTA%20Comment&ATony 866-403-3393
An exhaust system that held together by 'exhaust clamps' will need to be welded up sooner or later....if one is lucky. Clamps just don't do the job long term.
Can someone help me? My a4 have that flex pipe broken. It got separated. Would this be the cause of my car not starting?? Hears like has no back pressure
+Guero Pesado Thanks for watching! I leaking exhaust won't typically cause your vehicle to not start. I recommend getting your vehicle diagnosed by a trusted mechanic.
Guero Pesado what did you need done cams or piston n stuff in the same boat thinking about just fixing her had it since 87 k has 173k as it sits rn lol

I was looking for a flex pipe video on my B5 Passat, randomly clicked on this video and it's exactly what I'm looking for

He connected the welder ground in the beginning of the video.
Some exhaust work simple and easy but when u working on exhaust short pipes it make the job a lil bit harder good job ttho 💪💪💪💪

good question, wish I knew but I was wondering the same thing
no, it won't change anything. Wether it's smaller or bigger, the stock exhaust is very restricted because of the catalytic converter.
You failed to mention unplugging the battery before any welds are made. Very critical that you don’t fry your computer on a simple job
It's always a tough job when u doing exhaust work with short pipes good job ttho
+darius stacks Thanks for the feedback!
Cool video how do you weld the top of the pipe on the car?
+Westerly Seahawk 34 Thanks for watching! There is a bit of clearance on top so you should be able to weld it normally.
How did u weld the top part of the pipe? U didn’t show how to do that part.
They don’t show it because it can’t be done
You have to mock up the parts, tack them in place and weld on the bench
Very carefully :)
That clamp at the end said it all.
Nice! I just paid $257 to have one installed on a 2013 Ford Explorer V6 3.7l
I have the exact same car and need to replace this flex pipe. How did you get a 1.75" diameter pipe to fit on a pipe with OD of ~2.3" just as you showed measuring it?
what settings do you have the welder on. voltage and wire speed?
You all do very nice videos ! 😀 thank you
be interesting to see you weld the back portion of the pipe, where you cant see, is it a feel it out weld ?

Will it pass the emission test if you don’t fix it?
How can you weld the pipe all around since you don't take down the whole pipe?
One of the best part sales price very good products
+silverado fast Thank you for your feedback and your business!
very nice video was clear and easy to follow great job guys!
Thanks for the kind words. Glad to hear we could help you out. 1aauto.com 866-403-3393
Nice video very concise
very easy to follow,, nice video.
Can u do a 2014 Kia Sorento Y pipe?
Very helpful thank you
+Mike Odeki Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
Good job guys !!
Why didnt you use a shorter flex. That's pribably going to snap somewhere else with the extra play
nice work and nice video
Looks that you set the blue mark and finally did cut the pipe too short to allow overlapping at both ends? And then you had to weld it also at the other end.
So what happens to those of us who don't weld ?
It is difficult to cut exhaust with a reciprocating saw when the car is on jack stands.
bren van angle grinder
Yeah, but what about for those of us who don't weld ?
@@guesswhomartin9249 They make clamps, but they get expensive. Find a cheap shop out in the booneys.

No mention of disconnecting the battery and welding flex pipe to clamped pipe before application
Is this it can be the same job for audi a4 s-line model 2008 ? Please . What kind of audi do you have ?
+Fa Ma This job was done on a 2007 Audi A4.
I wish I had a welder
😂
Don’t need to convert your measurement. Metric does it for you. Your tape measure has mm marked on it for your convenience. Your welcome.
5:59 why not weld that too toss the clamp ?
Hope you disconnected the battery before welding
Why do you need to disconnect the battery before welding ?
Disconnect the battery!!!
Why?
Looks like the differential connected to the tail end of the transmission is leaking or is it just me ? Mine looks exactly the same
hi we replace mine, but its so noisy and vibrating my van.. how can minimise this vibration?
it must be touching something along the exhaust
I think the best way is to get a flange that’s bigger and weld it on on the inside of the piece coming from the cat,
Then its restricting airflow?
nice welds

If all the catalytic converters are missing in his neighborhood.........
I can produce it by titanium
why do you need to weld it, if you cut the pipe right it should be tight enough to fit right in as is
It's not absolutely necessary to weld it, and many at-home mechanics wouldn't. But the exhaust system is designed to be one continuous pipe, so that's the proper way to repair it. It HAS to be welded, there is no way to stop it leaking - making noise and fumes - with only clamps.
It will pull off as the engine moves if its not fixed on correctly, as there is a lot of movement which is why there is a flexi there
An exhaust system that held together by 'exhaust clamps' will need to be welded up sooner or later....if one is lucky. Clamps just don't do the job long term.
Says no clamps, uses a clamp....
That's the way the stock one is connecting to the flex pipe.
out of stock.

No

Items are a joke ! You need a muffler shop. And a hoist!!!
