    Hockey-specific nutrition is key to achieving your muscle gaining goals without losing your athletic ability. Although that sounds obvious, too many hockey players out there are sacrificing their performance because they’re using the outdated powerlifting and bodybuilding methods that their old school coach taught them.
    If you want to perform like an NHL player then you need to eat like an NHL player and not a bodybuilder. Use the strategies and protocols in this video to get the job done, and for more information on hockey-specific nutrition make sure you check out www.hockeytraining.com/nutrition

  • @samcarrier821

    For the weight gain jar, is it ok if I still have peanuts in them because the only option of nuts and dried fruit I have available is premade and has peanuts I them. We don't really have the luxury of mixing a lot of nuts because it's too expensive.

    • @hockeyscienceunleashed
      @hockeyscienceunleashed  3 роки тому

      Nuts are one of the cheapest things you can buy man, most grocery stores and single ingredient bulk stores (e.g. Bulk barn) allow you to buy them by the pound and they are comparable price-wise to peanuts. If for some reason this is a still a no-go for you, it's OK to use peanuts, it will just be less nutrient-dense.

      @@hockeyscienceunleashed yeah I would like to go in a store like bulk barn but I live in a small town with 500 people so we only have one place to get our food and it's a grocery and the nuts there are a bit pricey

    say for example you wanted to lose or maintain weight, could you just keep the same macronutrients make up and lower the body weight multiplier gradually until you see the desired response on the scale?

      @hockeyscienceunleashed  3 роки тому +2

      Yep! You're pretty darn close, although there are some slight variations. No worries though, because this will be my next video on this channel so I'll break everything down for you real soon 👍

    This is great info! Would this formula/ #'s apply to youth (squirt level) players as well?

    • @hockeyscienceunleashed
      @hockeyscienceunleashed  3 роки тому

      I typically don't recommend any type of counting/formula until you're at least 18 years old as it's important at a young age to develop a healthy relationship with food in the absence of numbers. For a young athlete, the weight gain jar would be a great strategy, and so would the density/composition tactics. Those alone will get you a great result without needing to count anything 🙌

    Hey! My goal this summer is to gain weight. I was wondering if there is a limit/cap to how much weight you should put on in one offseason or in a specific period of time. My offseason is going to be about 16-17 weeks from what I know so far, and I’m currently 18 years old, 183cm and 73 kg.

    • @hockeyscienceunleashed
      @hockeyscienceunleashed  2 роки тому +1

      There is no universal answer for this as some players feel better at heavier/lighter weights. It all comes down to how you feel and what your playing style is. If you're following the weight gain per week recommendation, you won't go over the limit/cap as it will be functional growth. With that said, it's important to not outgrow your frame as we want to be hockey players and not bodybuilders. Stay in tune with your body and movement mechanics, how you're performing your speed/agility/conditioning work should give you a great idea on whether or not your weight gain is helping or hurting you.

    How many calories does the protein macro nutrient add up to, if I calculate 1g pr. lb?
    Hope the question make sense.

    • @AlexNicholls.
      @AlexNicholls. 3 роки тому

      1g of protein contains 4 calories

    • @hockeyscienceunleashed
      @hockeyscienceunleashed  3 роки тому

      @@AlexNicholls. Has got it right. Protein and carbs are both 4kcal/gram, and fat is 9kcal/gram. So you just extend your math out from there.

    This is for off season? Does this account for activity?

    • @hockeyscienceunleashed
      @hockeyscienceunleashed  2 роки тому

      Yep, it accounts for activity -- And also yes, it's definitely only for the off-season. I do not recommend aggressively chasing body composition goals during the in-season for reasons I explain here: podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/in-season-calorie-intake/id1385741676?i=1000538197555

    Would you recommend counting calories for a 13 year old hockey player like me?

    • @hockeyscienceunleashed
      @hockeyscienceunleashed  3 роки тому

      Nope! Stick to whole, non-processed foods and leave the counting until you're 18+ years old. If you need to gain weight, the weigh gain jar + density/composition/reward strategies will work perfectly for you without needing to count anything 🤙
