I've seen Efren's best shots over and over again, and each time it still amazes me how he can do this playing the top players in one go. Yet he's so damn humble. He just gets up, makes the shot and moves on. Never feel an ounce of negativity from him.
I've played really good for over 50 years -- seen all the greats (Moscone, Mizerak, Lassiter, Balsis, Crane, Carras)! -- There is nobody like Reyes. He sees things from a different dimension. Even great players like Strickland, Archer, et. al. today are out of their league trying to beat him because it's not just his physical skills! It's his mind! It goes places we don't go!
Efren Reyes, or the magician, did not gain his exquisite and unique proficiency from nothing. He started playing pool since he was 8 y/o and now he's 65 y/o (dated today) which means he has been playing pool for 57 years (born August 26, 1954). Efren has mastered the entire pool table angles, strikes force, unimaginable control and precision on the cue ball, and a very high self-confidence with absolutely no vanity (He's very humble and friendly by the way). Two more things about Efren Reyes, he has never underestimated any opponent, and he has never neglected the calculation of any hit no matter how easy the ball is. God bless Efren Bata Reyes.
i got him and django to sign both of my cues. he is a class act, a true inspiration for talent and sportsmanship. how lucky to live at the same time to witness his gifts.
I know I watched Reyes' videos many years ago and I am back watching them again. Can't get over the talent of this guy. The best ever. Certainly the most creative.
time 2:30 that was crazy!!! what kind of mental ability and skillful hand was that in one moment working together in unison like a well-oiled machine, accurate but graceful!!! i just lost adjectives to this one. it was just like a camera tricks on your face, nowhere to go but to admire this master EFREN. to those critics shut the door up!!!
"All I tell you is, if I shot that ball I probably would have had a heart attack!" Ha ha. The magician is great in calculation.. The sound of silence. It was executed perfectly. Efren, the G.O.A.T. He is the best in the world. His own techniques and strategy made commentators say he's a genius. Indeed. Players learn from him and imitated. He is a legend in the world of pool. A humble Pinoy. Mabuhay!
When you're planning plays 2 or 3 shots ahead, it's so easy to get ahead of yourself & overlook the play on hand. And yet this man executes every single one of them to perfection. Decades after playing his last game, people will still be talking about Reyes, much like how we do today with the likes of Muhammad Ali & Michael Jordan. He's the benchmark by which future generations of pool players will be measured & compared against.
The last part the commentary was given by the great Grady Matthews who was a world class player and a world class commentator..... he rarely speculated on what the players should shoot he just said what he as a player would do in that situation.... made him entertaining and easy to listen to
Lol I laugh at the commentators trying to predict Efren's shots ..... They're trying their best to comprehend Efren's knowledge and its just not working haha
DivineMizE - They are not a joke. They're knowledgeable players. They are also humble, and admit to Efren Reyes' greater knowledge and skill. Why do you disparage them?
I love Efren as much as the next guy, but Archer has always been my favorite, I love his demeanor at the table. Even that clip where he broke his cue over his back he looked composed.
There's no point in arguing with idiots, because they pull you down to their level, then beat you with experience. Nonetheless there's a few important points here. Efren Reyes is not simply a 9-ball player ( this is for the ignorant people here.) He has played 3 cushion billiards ( a very hard game IMO), 9-ball, 8-ball, one pocket, and straight pool to name just some games. He has won championships in more than one of these games. It's been said he's the greatest of all time by some people you can respect. So he was born in a place where people didn't play snooker, thus he didn't focus on that game. So what. These shots are highly creative and skilled. I have never seen a better player overall. But who cares if he's the best, as that's subjective. What is well known, and very clear, is that he is known for routinely inventing shots few would figure out, and fewer would attempt. He has earned the title of the magician many times over. Some accounts portray him as a decent humble guy surprised by his own fame. Never seen him act like a jerk, like Earl Strickland ( admittedly Earl could be somewhat entertaining.)
My dad and sisters are avid pool players (I play for fun, and I'm decent but not at their level), and they've met Efren in person. They say he's super chill.
In my opinion he is the best even 9 ball player of all time people criticize his break I think it's BS put my money on anybody shooting for my life it's him Efren even Earl admitted finally that Efren the greatest of all time there was a guy they talk about years ago Harold worst I can't comment on him he hasn't played long enough I haven't seen him but the ones I've seen Efren is definitely is the best. As far as Irving crane I think Efren would have busted him. The only one I might be a little nervous about is Buddy Hall when it's big money at stake of your own money he was ridiculously lethal they claim they said he was unbelievable I really can't say but I go by what I read as far as money Players he's the best ever they claim so I might be a little nervous
I really don’t care what the subject is, it’s good to see someone so gifted perform their magic. It could be a bricklayer, a taxi driver or whatever it’s a real treat. This fellow has got to be the best I e seen anyway.
It would be an honor to meet the magician. There's not many people on this planet that I really would want to meet ,but Efren is definitely one of them
Efren had been playing since a kid , so he knows entirely every corner of the game lol and he played many betting game back home . Thats how he got polished playing
Commentator A: "Yeah.. He's gonna go here, do this, and then he's gonna do that..." Commentator B: "Yes yes, that's seems to be the best and only way..." Efren: "Nope"
I miss efren too bad we can't make him come back in his prime and blow away all these new players making them look foolish never seen a player like him before making the best players in the world look like morons out there with his kick safeties. And unbelievable Z shots
@2:41 a lot of you got carried away that follow hook shot which is incredible for sure but never realized how majestic the shot after that - shooting behind the 8ball with left hand stroke?? WTF?? Cmon. that shot deserves waaay more credit.
Lots of top and some side. Not difficult to get the ball to act like that but the position he gets is perfect, extremely hard to do on the first attempt.
The shot he hits at the end proves his creativity and his reliance on knowledge, not luck. There's very little luck in straight pool as the penalty for error is very high. He tries those shots all the time in 9 Ball cuz the numbers tell you the options and if he fails, the game isn't necessarily over. In straight pool, to see that kinda shot is genius cuz if he fails, that may be his last shot of the game.
A true master in the art of billiards! The spectacular shot @ 2:30 is truly mind-boggling and no wonder he is called the Magician! Ibang klase talaga ang Pinoy! Ipakita mo ang galing mo sa mundo! Mabuhay ka Pinoy!
I love what Efren does with the cueball. When i did the Crazy 10 Ball RunOut from my channel, I felt a little bit like Efren.. at least for one rack :DD
This is one of the very best "best of Efren" videos I have seen to date and I've seen dozens. It doesn't hurt that there is commentary on the shots above and beyond the commentary at the time of the game. But the choice of shots and the secondary commentary are absolutely excellent. Thank you very much for this video.
To sum up Mr. Reyes perfectly: "How about playing the 2 off of the 4 -- a shot no one else on Earth saw except him -- and which he also executed perfectly."
Efren não tem nada de normal, minha maior curiosidade é saber de que planeta saiu para chegar por essas terras/será para sempre uma lenda,não haverá outro,certamente/ad semper
To all those commenting that snooker players can easily clean up a pool table doesn't have any clue about pool. The biggest difference between snooker and pool is the break, snooker players usually do the same thing over and over every rack while pool players deal with random balls after they break the rack thus pool players learned to be great on safety play which snooker players doesn't really have cause they just rely on putting the cue ball far off the table if they have no good shot but never do a safety that really hides the cue ball. And btw pool players deal with one ball at a time unlike snooker guys who got a lot of reds to chose from.
JackoDiaz At last someone who really gets it, I've been saying the same things you said for such a long time. The only thing snooker has on pool is potting, the positional aspect of the game, the defensive aspect and cue ball control belong to pool. Oh and I almost forgot...in snooker in order to hook your opponent you don't need to hit a rail, but in pool you always have to hit a rail. That increases the difficulty by a lot.

surprising to me: when Efren made that long six ball cut with inside english, the announcer said he had to judge how much the cue ball was going to curve which made it extra difficult, .... however I used to be an expert at shots like that and the ball actually squirts to the left on that shot and you need to know just how much it squirts depending on how hard you hit it. I don't play billiards, maybe tried 3 times and that's it. But I can appreciate how difficult these shots are

Efren Reyes is the best thing that ever happened to the world of pool.
2:21 seriously a magic that spin
"He's got the personality of a king!" says the commentator
Love it when players shut those announcers up.
Case in point Rick is one key Bank to to ball off to 4 like you say they should just shut their mouth and let the guy f****** play his game brother
Consistency. Everyone can play great games but he plays them again and again
