I saw Willie Mosconi play at the University Of Florida in 1968. He ran 150 balls to win the straight pool match and I can only imagine how intense a hypothetical match with Reyes would be. The Great playing with the Great!
Reyes is one of the best or the best in every pool discipline there is except for snooker, but he could probably be one of the best at it if he puts the time. Mosconi plays straight pool. The Great with the Greatest.
@@machoturbo357 That would be a heck of a match if Mosconi were still alive. Reyes is a natural born player and it shows in the way he figures angles for shots that look impossible. He''s a true pleasure to watch.
@itiller69 There is indeed an element of luck in making shots like this. The difference and what make Reyes so special is he is a master at calculating the risks of trying a shot like this in major competition and pulling it off. We all know the shots, like the last one, the 2 ball carom shot. But the difference is how many top players have the balls to take those risks in major competition. Reyes pulls off shots like this a lot because he tries them when others won't.
Efren Reyes getting lucky? I don't think so. Reyes is probably the best pool player ever. If the other player did a mistake or a bad shot, is because he is not as good as Efren or because he wasn't focused enough, that's it.
His explanations are more understandably expressed in Filipino language. When he is interviewed in english, he always replies that cause he can't speak english very well. In one event he said the hardest part of the game was the interview! Lol
you're taking it literally. its a catch phrase he uses during interviews whenever he wins or makes an amazing shot, why because he doesn't and is not a show off airhead.
The best player ever. A gentleman to boot. Nobody has ever been world class level in so many disciplines. The only thing I've never seen him do is snooker. It would not surprise me at all to learn that he got a 147 in practice doing that.
+Capt. Bamboo It's a hypothetical statement. His opponent calls it luck, so he would reply sarcastically , "Everytime I practice, I get luckier" Meaning the key to his luck is practice. So its not luck at all but enhancing his skill. The lesson is, there is no luck when you are prepared and practice many hours.
If you've ever seen the Color of Money, the intro says "..which is to say that luck plays a part in 9 ball. But for some players..luck itself, is an art." That's Efren Reyes. He's the best I've ever seen.
Reyes is the best there is, the best there ever was and the best there ever will be. There's nothing he can't hit. There's nothing he can't make. No one has a prayer of beating him. Any argument against this is invalid.
the commentators said, "that's why he's called a magician because when you feel that there's no out and there's no option available he comes up with some kind of a shot." Haters hate.
are you brain dead? that's a complement. he is the magician because time and time again he proves to commentators they dont understand the game at efren's level. a hater might call efren an "unorthodox" player maybe. a magician performs magic tricks with the intention of concealing the trick. someone watching a magician does not need to understand "how", and further more does not question the integrity of magic tricks, as long as it's a live performance and no plants or other nefarious devices. unless they are calling him a magician that uses gimmicks, it is a definite complement.
Man, Efren is epic. If there was one man, in history, that you wouldnt want to face if big money was on the table, itd be Efren. Some players may be better technically or more decorated with titles, but in terms of pressure games, Efren is probably the best ever...
I imagine when he did shots like these in his small-time hustling days, it was a matter of eating or not eating. Then he did these shots in highly prized tournaments with the thought "I'll take the shot, I already got enough money to last me a lifetime anyway".
@TheStrokeofGenious Oh, no doubt. My comment wasn't meant to suggest he isn't a great player. What I was saying is he has all the knowledge and skill, as well as many other world class players. What separates him from the pack is his own personal confidence in his skill. There's players out there that know as much about the game as Reyes does. The difference is they don't have the self belief he has and would never try the things he does in competition. His confidence gives him the edge.
9ball is just as qualified as snooker in that you work up one shape at a time (mostly) - smaller table means smaller margin of error. Even Ronnie-O used to miss lots of shots on the large snooker table. If you want difficulty then its Carom type billiards, they are the most difficult, and Efren was one of the best Carom players in the world! Don't troll if you don't know what u r talking about.
Marco Kimani Bro there isn't a smaller margin for error in American 9 ball pool compared to snooker. A full size American pool table is 9 feet long, a full size snooker table is 12 feet long. American pool tables have much larger pockets less distance to pocket the balls. Plus the jaws of the pockets are aren't as narrow ie you can bounce balls off the cushions and still pot balls. In snooker if you hit a ball off the cushion it won't go in the pocket unless it's a bizarre fluke. Bigger table means greater distance to pocket balls, less margin for error along with smaller pockets narrower jaws. Snooker is a whole step up in skill ability to pool that's a proven fact. Nothing against pool it's a fun game does take some skill and Reyes is a genius. But any top pool player would get beaten at snooker even by a low ranked amateur snooker player. You can say why don't snooker players play pool. The reason being the money isn't great compared to snooker and the travel, most snooker players are based in the UK don't want to relocate to USA. But if they did take it seriously they would be dominating American pool. Appleton from the UK played amateur snooker before becoming a American pool player. He has won lots of major American pool tournaments. Most UK snooker players only dabble in UK red & yellow ball pool where they have won. If they did put the time effort to play American pool they would be the best.
9 ball. The balls are run 1 through 9. The person to pocket the 9 ball wins the game. Anytime the cue ball hits a ball that is not the lowest number on the table, it is a foul and the other player has ball in hand and can place it anywhere. Those are the basics... you can find more online. :)
I like 2:29 better. 5:20 is not difficult to see, (esp for anyone with billiards experience), but yes does require precision to execute esp when cue ball is at the cushion
+Manuel F The big thing about the 1st shot is that he shot it with inside spin AND he controlled it to the point that he held it up around mid table in perfect position for the 8. Incredible shot right there.
@itiller69 i know right.. he already know what angles..he knows he can make it coz he believes in his skill..even an easy shot players sometimes missed.. just liek in 3:11...

Manny Boy Snooker players only play American pool once in a blue moon. There isn't the money in American pool for them like snooker. If they actually put the effort in played a couple of full American pool seasons they would be winning titles. Mark Selby current World snooker champion played world UK pool championship few years ago and won it comfortably. Snooker is much more skillful and harder to pot balls than American pool. Snooker players are better potters than American pool players.
junjay Davis and O'sullivan never played a full season on the American pool scene. If they did when in there early thirties they would have won tournaments.
American billiards table is smaller, yes, but the margin of error is smaller too. Snooker can forgive you for mistakes because: 1.the table is large enough that long balls are hard to pot (meaning u get forgiven for mistakes sometimes) 2.you can make bad shape on the target red ball and still get shape on another red ball. Snooker looks intimidating to patzers because they see a large table and pee their pants = "much higher art" LOL... youtube idiots never cease to amaze.
Trolling does not require a person to have any knowledge, it's aim is to get a rise out of people. I was not trolling, I was stating the truth. Snooker is a much higher art form than 9 ball. Simple fact, snooker players have been saying for 50 years, there are no hard pots on a billiard table.
the ball should've gone to the left after hitting the 7. he put enough English to make it go right instead and Infront of the 8 ball, also without scratching the cue ball on the side pocket.
He was at his peak during the 1970s. Imagine if there are videos of showing him playing during those times.
The only player that can visualize the game in 4D ... amazing 👏
Thank You Efren for showing us greatness and humility!
efren is a very humble person always says hes just lucky to make a shot even in very difficult one....
2:52-2:54 he was controlling the cue ball with his stick. Its like that Harry Potter shit

Now you see it, Now you don't! lol Wow incredible shot!

Well he always says that's why he wins after he wins a big tournament. Kind of a weird thing to say actually if you ask me.

Luck plus incredible talent EFREN has no doubt he's greatest pool player ever a real legend !!! 🙌🙌🙌
If you dont play or experience playing billiards you will never understand how hard that shot is
You 're not lucky idol. You are really great. GOAT!!!

Efren in his prime was the best pocket billiard player of all time. People occasionally argue, but they're incorrect.

strickland could have won it all in the 90's if it wasnt for this IMBA filipino
after the shot at 2:28, you'd notice that he did the next shot stroking with his left arm. that's how confident he is with his shots.
2:26 Lmfao after seeing that shit I would put my cue stick down and get out of there lol
when Efren Reyes gets interviewed and asked how he won the game he always say this: "I got lucky!"
Skill I don't believe in luck, luck's a wrong word to describe a positive case.
I prefer "Rewarded" the table Rewarded me for such a nice try

some of the shots are pure skill! if someone belives the oposit pool is an unknown game for him as he does not know how spin works!!!!

you fools dont undertand!!
luck plays apart in every good shot, maybe not a great deal but i believe it is a tiny bit
these shots got nothing to do with luck
JADP 1985 that's the joke
Pure skills
Efren is NOT lucky! Even the shots in 3:35 and in 4:30 were planned!
I think one in 100 - 200 amazing shots are because of luck..
In his prime.... Topmost
I don't get how the 1st one could be difficult. Obviously there is enough angle to make the shot. The curving cue at 2:52 is sick tho!
