      I loved her as the harried mother in Miracle on 34th Street when she wanted to buy a toy at Macy's but didn't have it and was told the toy was available at Gimbels, and she was shocked that Macy's would direct customers to their competition!!!

      Sometimes it’s the character actors that are remembered most. They can liven up a film with just one line or scene. I think one of Thelma Ritter’s first films was Miracle on 34th Street where she told a Macy’s rep how pleased she was with their Santa telling people where certain toys could be bought and how she’d be a regular Macy’s customer from now on

      He was also involved in accusing and turning in a lot of his fellow actors during the Red Scare McCarthy witch hunt era. So many people were unjustly accused of being Communists that their entire careers and lives were affected including Lucille Ball! Robert Taylor was an @$$*ole. And now fast forward to today, and the orange menace and his rePutinlican party openly embraces communism and its leader, even encouraging putin to attack NATO countries! Robert Taylor would fit in perfectly today.

      @bruce8808 5 місяців тому +4

      @@lynettepalecek3141According to what I've read Tate lost out and never did appear on petticoat junction because she posed for playboy. So the role was given to Jeannine Riley who was on Seasons 1&2 played Billie Jo. In Season 3 she was replaced by Gunilla Hutton. From Season 4 on Meredith MacRae took over the role. Tates manager also felt that Petticoat Junction was not a good launching pad for her career although she had already appeared on The Beverly Hillbillies.

    One of the weirdest 1969 deaths was Flint Rhem. He pitched on the 1931 World Series and (True!) WAS KIDNAPPED BY GANGSTERS who made him drink 10 bottles of antifreeze to keep word from being snitched about his kidnapping BUT HE GOT OUT ALIVE AND NEVER DRANK THE ANTIFREEZE! (Just one bottle of antifreeze would have killed Rhem TO DEATH! (He was 68.)

    I can remember watching the funeral of former President Dwight Eisenhower in 1969 on national TV; it was on all the major networks. I can also remember the death and funeral of Judy Garland that year as well. I was 8 going on 9.

    With Joseph Kennedy's, survived-by list, you forgot 'Joseph Jr'., who died in an experimental plane accident, and daughter 'Caroline'.
    I see you added, your own mother, to the list. And she, was only 39😞. Why, so young?? Is that you Vince, she is showing??
