Hey a new subscriber here. I'm looking to get into this side of the field, currently a OSP. Do you provide mentorship on this. If not, could you give me a quick breakdown on what I need to do to get in this field.
      Thanks!

I'm a mass splicer. LT adds a step to splicing. Ribbon routing has tricks to it. You learn the more you use it. The new spider web rolls like LT fiber and isn't as much of a pain in the a#$. Harder to read the ribbons IMHO.

I love splicing ribbon. Only hard part is splitting a ribbon that has live circuit in it. Not fun. We usually deal with 288 to 864 strand cables. We are usually not doing straight splices either. It’s usually an 864 trunk going to 2 or 3 144-288’s and sometimes the 864 is continuing down the road.
I can’t imagine splicing a loose tube 144 on a regular basis. Making ribbons isn’t terribly difficult, but it certainly isn’t as fast as splicing 2 ribbons together.

@@brians8664 I can do 144 butt splices in 5 hours so it’s not too bad in loose form. Where I’m working it’s a 96 ribbon and we’re using splitters and not even half the fibers in the 96 so it’s just them cheaping out. Not to mention we’re putting slack ribbon in trays not made for it. Just a total cheap out that costs the contractors time and money. No reason for ribbon on a job using less than half of all the fibers in that 96 count. It’s not even commscope ribbon, it’s the nova bullshit.
