5:38 the Clancy line is regarding a character made up by Tyler. Twenty one pilots have this very long story, or ‘lore’, behind their albums and this next coming album is a new chapter in the story and has explained like a decade of the TOP story, music videos and it is based on Clancy
Trust me, their 3 biggest songs, that you've probably heard on the radio, aren't anywhere near their best music, they just got popular because they had catchy hooks, which is unfortunate because even those songs have some deeper meanings, but most people ignore everything except the hooks.
Real, the songs of theirs that are popular have made people not dig deeper cause there are some way better ones like Migraine, hds, chlorine, etc
Here are a few more Twenty One Pilots songs with bars: Levitate, Migraine, Morph, Nico and the Niners, No Chances, Car Radio.

Josh is drumming like crazy….and Tyler’s flow is so unique. The lore is so extensive ..and Tyler’s woven together his own movie basically that stretches across several albums. This album Clancy is the resolution of like a decade long story. Their fans adore them because they care so much. We are pumped to see how this story will unfold.
Y’all need to deep dive into them! They have sooooo much good music. You need to do Levitate, car radio, heavy dirty soul, ode to sleep, lane boy and holding onto you (and there’s still more!!) that’s a good list to start off from!!

You could say this is a different vibe but only because *every* track is a different vibe and 5 genres
They have a whole storyline behind their music so some of the video might not make sense - they did release a video called "I Am Clancy" about 2 weeks ago that gives a high level version of the story for anyone new to them
They make a lot of different kinds of music and blend a bunch of genres together

They very first started doing music in 2009, got signed in 2013 but really blew up worldwide in 2015 with Stressed Out, Ride, and Heathens
Car Radio is a good song of theirs to react to if you're just getting into them

Recommendations: car radio, heavy dirty soul, lane boy, jumpsuit, chlorine, Nico and the niners… too many to list. Their music comes with a lore, a story very well told by their music. It’s cryptic but you can to watch their I am Clancy video, which they released a week prior to this song. It’ll catch you up, for the most part.

Twenty One Pilot's first album "Twenty One Pilots" was released in 2009 with their subsequent albums being Regional at Best (2011), Vessel (2013), Blurryface (2015), Trench (2018), Scaled and Icy (2021), and their latest album, Clancy, from which Overcompensate is from which will be released May 24th 2024.
Don’t forget, the Regional at Best AND No Phun Intended albums were BOTH nixed from all production/sale and once they signed to Fuled by Ramen in 2012. The label tried to wipe the existance of the two albums. Both were very good albums that sadly got fully discontinued from the digital market.

I didn't mention No Phun Intended (2008) because it was an unreleased album having only created by Tyler. Still phenomenal album though

Twenty one pilots music is always like this, just not their recent album, their albums connect with lore. Which explains trench, clancy etc. but you should definitely check out their older stuff

Twenty One Pilots switches genres a lot, and they oftentimes do rap! If you like this, I recommend Ode to Sleep!
As for how long they've been around, the first album released in 2009, though they didn't get picked up by a label until after their second album. Their label debut, and what they consider the start of their professional career, was in 2013.

Yes, this is how Twenty One Pilots are. A full discography of top tier music that touches so many genres it's tough to classify them. As several have already mentioned their albums from 2015 onward tell a story about a character named Clancy set in the world of Trench (also the name of one of their albums). There is quite a bit of meaning to everything you are seeing in this video, i'd recommend watching the video 'I Am Clancy' which will give you a brief overview and help you understand a bit better.

Ye so when he's got the mask on hes technically taking control of a body that died recently, this power was thought to be lost and only one other person had it (its a power that was given to him by the Ned, the little furry creature in Chlorine, so I'm not entirely sure how the other person got it). Nico, one of the judges/bishops, is the other person who has this power but I'm not the best expert in explaining all of the lore. I could probably come up with a huge explanation for it since I've followed them for so long but its a whole lot that you'd probably be better looking up a video for it

gave me the low down on where to start with the narrative that is carried on in their music. There is a whole story, a whole world to around these songs. Start with these albums and then look at her link below, she explains the eye color at the end of the music video and the red tape but you'll understand better and know the characters once you know those previous albums.

Watching the "Twenty One Pilots - The Story" playlist on the band's channel shows what events in the story have been confirmed to be canon so far and in what order they go.
It is speculared that the the albums before Blurryface also relate to the lore, however, there aren't as many strong connections
and it's more metaphorical in Self-Titled and Vessel."
