Joe the videographer for this mv is Mark Eschleman of Reel Bear Media, long time friend and original videographer for the band back when they first started out in 2010 as a small local band in Columbus Ohio. He was basically a friend of Tyler's and has developed his career as twenty one pilots developed theirs. Mark doesn't make all their videos but is a very important part of the team and I love that they all still work together all these years later.

@@joeesparks7 Yes! The TOP x Mark connection is similar to the Ren x Samuel Perry-Falvey connection, but even deeper since he’s also done their tour vlogs and so many other elements.
He also put together the “I Am Clancy” album teaser that I would recommend, since it’s meant to help people catch up who may not be familiar with the lore. It easily could become a movie. This album is the last chapter of a Dema/Bishop storyline that crosses the Blurryface, Trench, and Scaled and Icy albums.
to add onto this, it was filmed downtown in Columbus at the Athenaeum. They didn't really add anything to the venue other than the lights on the stage. That's exactly how it looks.
@melissak7406 I'm from Columbus and figured it was shot here but couldn't put my finger on where it was! Kinda thought that last scene with the boat was probably somewhere at Alum Creek but couldn't figure out the theater
@@ericstockman7405 Yes! It does have that vibe. I was just there in Nov for the Menzingers/Microwave show and recognized it immediately. I love that they always pick Columbus or Columbus adjacent places like the Heavy Dirty Soul video being filmed on the highway going east towards Kirkersville and Car Radio at Newport etc.
When it's your first time reacting and have the hand signals down by the end of the video, you know it's an effective video. These guys have some great videos, welcome to the rabbit hole!

This rabbit hole is DEEP! But a good starter is their previous video called “I am Clancy.” It will give you many answers and many more questions, but they pair it with a playlist of recommended catalog to guide you. :)
I say Ode To Sleep to start, I Am Clancy explains the whole lore and was released right before Overcompensate and everything in between is amazing. They have no bad songs. and yes, its a duo. Tyler and Josh

At the end of the music video, Clancy (Tyler Joseph) is doing this thing called seizing. It allows Clancy to take to tame control of dead bodies. In the video "i am Clancy" it explains not only that, but the greater narrative that started in Vessel and is ending in the current album

To understand what happened at the end of this music video you need to watch seven other Twenty One Pilot music videos. You can watch I Am Clancy like others have mentioned. However, for the music videos, here are the ones you need to watch (need to be viewed in this order):

Chlorine will introduce you to Ned. Ned wasn't in Overcompensate, but played an important role nonetheless. The rest of the videos go through the Twenty One Pilots lore that have lead up to the Overcompensate video.

It's strange that someone is still surprised that Tyler rapps, it's a big part of their songs ever since.
Please go to their UA-cam channel and look for the "I am Clancy" video that explains the storyline, which are they are working on for 3 albums now (the new one will bring it to an end) then from there, watch the videos from their "The Story" playlist in the order they are listed.
You will love the storytelling and the video directing.

Great reaction! Additional You need to watch I am Clancy released by Twenty one pilots two weeks ago. There you will find a story. And then rewatch a clip. You will find so many easter eggs and meanings.. red / yellow tapes, Dema, Trench, map, teaching,, shiny gravestones,, vialism, bishops, seizing..
Go back and check out Blurryface and Trench. The story is being told through these albums and will conclude with Clancy in May. After years of fan theories, they put out a video called "I am Clancy" that blew open the door to the full lore to get everybody ready to finish it off with this next album.

they bend a lot of genres together - great performers - great music videos - there's a storyline behind all their music too so some of the video/lyrics may not make sense
Car Radio is a good place to start down their rabbit hole
If you want to get a backstory on the lore behind their music, they released a video called "I Am Clancy" a couple weeks ago that sums it all up - it shows the videos involved in the story as well
You will quickly understand why there is a lot of overlap between the Renegades and TOP (the Clique). TOP crosses many genres, including rap / hip hop, and constantly switches things up mid-song. Tyler uses music to work through his mental health struggles, but he often counter balances it with uplifting music and a message of positivity and hope. He’s a brilliant storyteller through the lore that interconnects multiple albums. I think you will really appreciate Tyler’s artistic vision. There is a lot of symbolism in the colors and symbols they use in each album era.
Thematically the thing to remember is cycles. When you are battling mental health struggles, it’s often hard to break the cycle. So this comes through in the rather fluid timeline and sequencing of events. But in this album, Tyler (Clancy) is returning to Trench to battle the Bishops and try to take control of Dema. Will he succeed?
You need to watch I am Clancy. And all of their music videos to understand the story so far

There is a lot kid lore with the last three albums. I would start with I Am Clancy. Then go back and watch the 4 part series. Heavydirtysoul, Jumpsuit, Nico and the Niners, and Levitate. Dive deep and you will appreciate them so much. I would also go back to Ode To Sleep. You will love it.
