So cool the way both of you look at each other when the music grabs you. It's refreshing to see you two be able to really appreciate the way these songs move you. I had a flashback to my 15-year-old self listening to this song in my room, staring at the spinning record as the needle got closer and closer to the end of the grooves, confirming the epic ending of this song. I wasn't anywhere near smart or mature enough to grasp the message, but that gave my wiser future self something to look forward to.
Thank you so much for your kind words and for sharing that moment with us. I completely pictured looking at the LP going around, I felt the same way, but this time it was a horizontal line, hehe :P It's a pleasure to share this with all of you and comments like these really make our day, so thanks again! :) - Lex
I’m a 53 year old Rush fan who fell in love with this album in 1980 as a 12 year old. In this world where there’s so much negativity, it warms my heart to see younger people fall in love with this music. Enjoy your journey and I will enjoy watching 😎🎧🔥
Well written Jim. I'm a "youngster" at 47 and I actually appreciate them more with the passing of time, especially since Neil's tragically early death in early 2020. I will love this band forever, no question.
Also 53 and I remember this being my secret joy for all these years along with all of my favorite other yes and rush songs that people are now finally discovering!
I'm 62. With all the madness going on in the world, I pray that people will understand the messages the musical artists of the 60s and 70s were sending us. Back then, like now, we the people had to do it ourselves. We had to protest against war and corruption and promote peace and love and brotherhood. No one in the establishment would do it. Now evil forces are trying to divide us in 2021. Maybe it's just me but my heart aches when I hear all these old songs and worry that the message might be lost. If beautiful people, like all of you, can revive the atmosphere of freedom and love of the seventies by reviewing these songs with a new generation then you are heroes to the human race.
The poetry in this song is some of Neil's absolute best. Wheels within wheels In a spiral array A pattern so grand and complex Time after time We lose sight of the way Our causes can't see their effects
You are experiencing imho the greatest band ever, 3 incredible virtuoso musicians. Three guys who stayed together over 40 years, loyalty, integrity and love, I can't think of another band with this mix of attributes. RIP Neil Peart.
I agree Phil. I have attentively listened to and liked lots of bands over the years, but boy, these three get under your skin, closer to the heart and feel the way you would, to coin two famous lyrics. Once you're into Rush, you're in for life. What a trio of wonderful musicians - and human beings.
@@davecole2561 I couldn't agree more Dave, I've been a fan for over 40 years, such genuinely wonderful human beings in addition to being supremely talented musicians, I'm not ashamed to admit that the passing of Neil Peart was a real body blow and even now I will burst into tears from time to time when I think of him and how he Geddy and Alex have been so influential in my life. RIP Neil Peart.
Agreed. It blows my mind. I remember listening to this for the first time in 1980 when it came out. I then never looked back. I bought each album afterwards the day it came out. The only reason I didnt listen to them from their inception was because I was 9.
Great pick guys!! Not only a fan favorite, this one is actually one of the bands favorite works... Recorded at LeStudio in Canada, the water sounds came from a lake on the property, Neil and Alex splashed the water with their hands.. Another cool thing is the echo on Alex's guitar was literally created by putting a speaker outside and bouncing the sound off of a mountainside, and rerecording it. Nick you were spot on with the transition comment, Natural Science was written in 3 separate movements, 1) Tide Pools, 2) Hyperspace and 3) Permanent Waves. Glad you guys enjoyed it! Keep up the good work!
Rush are so ridiculously good that, if I were to form a band, I would listen back to my stuff, listen to a bit of Rush, go and weep uncontrollably in a corner for a while, quit the band and take up knitting. Or similar pastime. My admiration and love for this band only grow year on year. Kings among musicians and indeed men.
Lexi, It is interesting how you said the opening sounded like "paddling" on a lake. This is basically how that sound was created organically, Neil and Alex went down to the shore of a small lake at night, set up two microphones and began to move paddles in the water to generate the wave sounds. You are very perceptive! I'm impressed yet again.
@@NicknLex The echo on the vocals is also the natural echo across the lake. The studio, Le Studio, is on the shore of the lake, and they took all the speakers outside and blasted the vocals out, recording the echo coming back off the mountains across the lake.
They actually wrote this in the studio. They had been working on a different piece called something like "Sir Gawain and the Green Dragon" and decided to scrap it. That left them about 10 minute short of an album, so they banged this out. So not only were they creative, they were creative on demand (and under pressure). Natural Science is one of my top three Rush songs (along with La Villa and Camera Eye).
This is one of those Rush songs (like many of theirs, but this one especially), that you need to listen to three times (for a first listen), with each time separately focusing on the drums, the guitar, and the bass...
Absolutely agree! Literally since we recorded this we’ve listened to it like 10 times together. Today I had a doctor’s appointment and on the way there listened to it three times in a row and did exactly that. I just can’t get over how amazing this is!! - Lex
Natural Science embodies everything that is “classic Rush”. I’ve seen many Rush fans list it as their favorite song. Certainly one of my favorite. Thanks for the reaction, you guys are awesome!
Alex and Andy would say, " You got lost in the sauce!" The best line, "The most endangered species, the honest man, will still survive annihilation..."
this was Alex Lifeson's favorite song to play live. Wheels within wheels in a spiral array, a pattern so grand and complex... Neil's drumming in this song is in particular among his best work and embodies their true sound.
Three guys. Tons of talent. Arguably some of the finest musicians ever. Amazing creativity. No auto-tune. Not predictable rhythmically or melodically. That's why they were great and interesting. Their music has lasted and will continue to be appreciated. I'm glad you have discovered them and can appreciate them.
Alex is the perfect guitarist for Rush. His playing is so creative and brilliantly sets moods. He plays with such beautiful control of tone. It’s gorgeous, aggressive, gentle, thought provoking, awe inspiring, you name it.
This is the reason Rush is one of the greatest bands to go to a concert for a variety styles in songs and the fact even in their fifties these 3 guys can do over a three hour concert with out any compromise.
You guys are adorable! The smiles and gasps are endless...just what Rush does to almost everyone. It's unbelievable how they engulf your mind, right?! You two take me back to my high school years discovering the best prog-rock trio in history. I began playing drums at 13 because of Neil. I cried for an hour upon hearing of his death...had to pull off the road to contain myself. It hit me right then how much my life has been positively affected by these masters of music. Definitely will keep following you two. So many reaction videos on UA-cam, but will say y'all could be the most enjoyable to watch. Please do The Camera Eye soon! 11 minutes long...Rush's last classic epic tune, imo. Been a Rush-head for 38 years now. First of my 14 concerts was in Atlanta, 1984!
Thank you SO much for your kind words and support! We love having you here and it’s truly an honor to share these reactions with you all. Thank you for sharing. I can only imagine that feeling when he passed. Sending peace, Lex :)
"A simple kind of mirror to reflect upon our own. All the busy little creatures chasing out their destinies. Living in their pools, they soon forget about the SEA..." (Hold on to your hats...)
Your expressions are exactly the way we felt (Rush fans) when we first heard these songs. Rush fans always want others to share that same experience as we did. Though they were not always on the top of the charts, there music resonated with millions of people world wide. This music is not specific to one generation, but is shared and loved by several generations of fans. Thank you for posting this and the others. Signed All Rush Fans :)
😷Rush is the most dynamic band in every aspect that music allows. Sonically, lyrically, musically, performing, presentation, writing and production they are just phenomenal. They pioneered and revolutionized so much and influenced so many on all those levels. Almost every genre has a superstar that cites their influence in one way or another.🤘🖖✌️🎸🎹🎤🥁
Another great reaction by the new King and Queen of Rush reactors! This song is great Live and Alex has said it was his favorite to perform live. It gets better every time you listen to it!
Another masterpiece by Rush. Was turned onto Rush in 1976 by my brother and a good friend. I enjoy the works of many artists, but Rush changed my life. I will be forever in their debt.
"I feel the way you would". This band has affected me more than any other, even though I think I have eclectic tastes and am influenced by many songwriters and bands. Rush were and are imperious.
Ha! 3 years later.... I can remember the friend and the song. Richard Schreiber and The Trees. The year was 1982, and the location was Darnestown Md. I already loved music and audio. Richard's older brother had turned him on to Rush, and he was smart enough to know something incredible when he heard it apparently, and fortunately for me, I was in the right place at the right time. The boys from Canada have been a part of life for me ever since, as has music in general.
This is one of my favorites to play on the guitar the time changes are so seamless. The song is another great journey with the greatest band ever, only Rush can make music like this.🎸🎵🔥🔥🔥👍✌
Again Permanent Waves classic. Can’t go wrong with this album. If you wanted to wind it back a couple seconds because you heard something cool, you’d be doing it the entire song. Neil’s drum work in this is phenomenal. Recommend some early stuff like By-Tor and the Snowdog from their 2nd album Fly By Night. When they first started evolving into prog.
I find By-Tor and the SnowDog one of the few Rush songs that the studio version just doesn't do justice to. It just got better with time in its execution and evolved in terms of content over time as well. Despite not wanting to listen to live versions, I would recommend the All the World's a Stage live version instead. No video though, that album was just an audio recording.
@@chrismarkle2740 I only disagree because Studio version first is a must mainly because a lot of live versions cut it off before it finishes and goes into something else
@@chrismarkle2740 I strongly encourage new listeners to start with studio versions w/ lyrics when possible. I agree that some Live tracks are better than the originals, however listening to the studio version first makes the Live version even better. Reactors should do both and not be concerned about the length of the video.. Rush fans will Like, Comment and reply to every video.. and the longer the better. FWIW all the worlds a stage is also my favorite version of Bytor and the Snow Dog. ✌️☝️☝️✌️
I was fortunate to attend their farewell tour in Calgary. And this song was included in the the play list. This is big because it was never really a staple in their concerts. I will just say they knocked it out of the park. I will remember hearing this song being played live forever! Greatest band ever!!
Incredible musicians. Incredible songwriting here. No ProTools. Analog tape. Geddy’s voice at its peak. The perfection of Permanent Waves and Moving Pictures bookended by the less commercial Hemispheres and Signals. Very few bands had such a jaw dropping 4 album run.
As a fan for going on 40 years now, I LOVE seeing people being touched by RUSH'S brilliance.. May Neil rest in paradise, he was a miracle! He lost his daughter and first wife a year later and bounced back and continued on...I still get choked up and shed tears every time I hear them...so many shows I've seen and so many times their music has touched me personally...your going to have to watch "beyond the lighted stage"...KEEP DOING WHAT YOUR DOING! IT'S AWESOME!
I remember back when this came out was when all Rush skeptics (me included) finally gave up and conceded that these guys were incredible. I consider all three of them as black belts in rock-fu, and this song is a masterclass in rock musicianship. Neil often gets singled out for good reason, and it's songs like this where it's correct to describe what he does as lead drumming.
RUSH, you can't help but be amazed by the musicianship of these 3 guys. Can you imagine how many hours of practice it must take to perfect these complex rythum changes and deliver them so precicely? They are forever one of a kind master musicians.
I've been a fan of Rush since the 70's ( fly by night) and I absolutely adore their early stuff - Hemispheres being my all time favourite but has a band ever produced three such astounding superb albums than Permanent Waves , Moving Pictures and Signals. There is no other group like Rush. They play music no one else has or ever will and are absolutely peerless. A class apart.
@@davecole2561 I saw them twice at the Hammersmith for FTK and then Hemispheres , Wembley and then twice in Birmingham -R30 and S&A. Really sad I missed Clockwork Angels and the fact they didn't tour here for R40. I understand why they didn't come but do feel a bit cheated.
Hemispheres, PW and MV are my three favourite Rush albums. The production on all three are outstanding. MO my no.1 is the best produced album I’ve ever heard!
12:20 ish great clip of Nick acting naturally and being comfortable with the camera. These early Rush videos are fun to re-watch…knowing what was going to happen in your lives in the coming years! (I may have an overdeveloped power for nostalgia ?) 🥸😍
Just watched it Macky. I act like that still in every video. I am very comfortable in front of the camera now. The only thing I had to teach myself was not to interrupt Alexia so much. That's literally all I have changed. It's still hard trust me. You have the feeling I am not natural anymore. I could never not be.
@@NicknLex I have no negative criticism for you guys, sorry if I cone across that way. I was just struck by how natural and sweet you were at that moment. It’s not easy to do, but you guys both are naturally talented in that way. Your growing channel is proof. I am a retired producer/designer, and I can’t help but vomit out ideas and comments to you guys. Lol It’s all love. ❤️👍😎
Idk, it’s definitely not for everyone. I’m like the band on COS - sure there’s great playing but it doesn’t come together into great “songs”. Glad you love it but there are plenty like me that find it pretty weak compared to the rest of the catalog. Just my opinion - rock on 🤘
Fountain of Lamneth, 2112, The Garden, Cygnus X1 Books 1 and 2, among others. Lots of Rush yet to come. I subbed because your music choices are great. I've been a Rush fan since 1981, so when I see Rush reactions I click.
Awesome reaction to an awesome song!! Yes, please always read the lyrics when you can. Neil's lyrics will change your life. Not kidding! Such an amazing band!
Midi interface & pedals. Even Neil uses it. Rush was never shy about trying out new tech. They never let the bottom fall out, or leave any holes in their music, unless they intended too. Amazing compositions and arrangements, masters of blend and balance. Wizards with sound reinforcement and effects. And to think, we were born at the time this happened!
It is a wonderful feeling watching new RUSH fans listening to the music of Dirk, Lerxst and Pratt. I remember my first time listening to RUSH many moons ago. Great video!
Lol! That is exactly what I did. I listened to RUSH for the first time when I was 12-12 years old in 1984, I got my drums kit and have been playing ever since! R.I.P. Neil
First to say; I love the interaction between you both. Really wonderful to see you can both share your passion in music. Second; yes whatever you play of Rush...most of the time it is always good or at least interesting to listen to. I don’t know what you already listened but there is really too much to start with. Necromancer Fountain of Lamneth 2112 Hemispheres all books The Trees La Villa Strangiato YYZ Red Barchetta Spirit of Radio Freewill The Camera Eye Subdivisions Grace under Pressure Malignant Narcisissum Caravan Far Cry Clockwork Angels Headlong Flight The Garden Dreamline Marathon Grand Designs Big Money and so on
Thank you so much for your lovely comments and we're so glad you're enjoying this journey with us! We love sharing this with all of you and can't get enough of the positive comments and support. We've done Leave That Thing Alone, La Villa Strangiatto, Jacob's Ladder and obviously, Natural Science. We're barely getting started and CAN'T WAIT! :) - Lex
@@NicknLex that’s a great list! Especially since you want to do studio 1st. They left a couple off that will be good studio versions....“Nobody’s Hero” and “The Pass”. With the exception of “YYZ” (you should do “YYZ- Live in Rio” and “The Garden - Clockwork Angels” tour and “Xanadu - Exit Stage Left”) all those tracks are better live... I promise, I wouldn’t steer you wrong! The rest are all good studio tracks, but I recommend you have lyrics available.... with Neil, the lyrics are an intricate part of the song! As far as this song goes, it was recorded at LeStudio in Canada and you hit it on the head with the “paddles” that’s how they made the water sound at the beginning was water running off row boat paddles. This does refer to tide pools and how we get lost in our own little “worlds” and don’t see the big picture! This came out in 1980 and to sum up: This song is about how people can forget about nature because of technology, and how we must value the Earth, technology and our impact on it! Pretty good since this was recorded before the internet was even around! There are some odd 7/8, 6/8 and 3/4 time signatures in this song along with the normal 4/4. (Per song facts) Even 25 yrs later, Alex says this is one of his favorites to play live!! Glad you enjoyed!! I sure did!! Be Well and God Bless... from Texas!

Can't wait to watch this WITH you guys! Been a Rush fan since the mid 70's and have never looked back! Glad to see new Rush fans emerge in a new millennium.
That's 1am on Sunday here in the UK so I think I'll get my beauty sleep and watch it back some time. Feel out on a limb when it comes to Rush as most reactors are North American, which I understand, but they recorded here in the UK and played some legendary shows too. I only got to see them live three times, pitiful compared to their hardcore Canadian and American fans. Watching Beyond the lighted stage will only deepen your respect and admiration for this astonishing band. Enjoy the party!!
@@davecole2561 aw man I’m so sorry. We did try to make it as early as possible our time, but if we do it earlier we won’t be able to enjoy as much due to glare. The room we film in has awesome sun-exposure, but not friendly when watching a movie. Sun sets like 30 mins after the starting time hence why we chose it. Thanks for your support and hope you do end up watching later! :) - Lex
@@NicknLex that's kind of you to reply. The glare of the sun is a pleasant problem to have and it's even sunny here for a change in Exeter, Devon, UK. I have the doc on DVD in any case 😉.
Best thing about newbies to rush is asking them to listen to each instrument individually for the whole song. Then listen to the song and hear the collaborative effort. I've turned many a music fan to rush that way. I think you guys get that too. Love your shows.
That’s what Rush does to you. So much to say. So hard to find the words to say it. Soulmusic. Edit: Had to add this after watching your outtro. I love your approach to these. Studio tracks with no visuals. Hear the songs the way we heard them for the first time and the way the musicians wanted them to sound. I love your insight and appreciation for the composition and the way you interact with each other. Keep doing what you’re doing!
Thank you so much for your support! We love sharing this with you and that's exactly what we want to bring, just the studio audio like you heard it first. Walk before we run and just imagine we're listening to the record for the first time with headphones. We're glad you're enjoying the channel and sending you peace, Lex :)
Niel P wrote some of the most inspiring lyrics. Civilizations like tidal pools advancing on their own until the tide rushes in to unite them with the sea. Great sone.
Hyperspace is amazing isn't it? It was my favourite song of all time for probably 20 years. Can't get enough of that syncopated rhythm. Great to see it still has an effect 40 years on.
The Holy Trinity is amazing. The beginning of this song is comparing us to the "tiny little creatures chasing out their destiny" that live in the tide pools. Just like us we get caught up in our small worlds and forget about the vast ocean that's out there. Don't trip on the lyrics.....yet😁 I know I would listen to a new Rush song organically the first few times and then delve into the lyrics. I would recommend pulling up the lyrics just for you guys just because you eventually "get" where they are going with all the time changes. Dig your reaction, because it reminds me of the first time I listened to a Rush song😳🤯 Take care ✌
Thanks very much you two! It's so fun to watch people experience a Rush song for the first time. I envy you, there are SO MANY amazing songs that will blow your minds. Three virtuoso musicians, each at the top of his craft, it's magical. I warn you though, this rabbit hole goes deep! Once your thoroughly mesmerized by the music, check out the lyrics! I can honestly say this band and these lyrics have shaped my values as I grew up. Enjoy the trip!
Great reaction, love it. They are all masters of their instruments. Love his guitar tone during the first solo, just epic. Alex’s guitar tone on this album is very curated. More Rush please!
Old Rush fan here my whole life. One of my absolute favorite Rush song. This song is a awesome incredible masterpiece. The time signatures, tempo changes and the totally awesome drum parts from Neil "The Professor" Peart. RIP. P.S check out the live version of this song, and for gods sake check out the drum solo from Frankfurt by Neil Peart.
Again, I urge you to watch Rush: Beyond The Lighted Stage. If you do not react to The Camera Eye, you're doing yourself and your fans a great injustice!
Please check out our description where we mention why we haven't done live versions yet; but we will and we CAN'T WAIT! Thank you for all your comments and support! :) - Lex
@@mr.mojorisin1616 I agree , Specially on Ear phones ( but that's most of there stuff) & Moving Pictures is one of their best Works, and then considering Alex's Well documented hand/finger problems I was impressed with him on 'the time machine gig'.
I am old enough to have seen Rush live in concert in 1974. That was the year they were just beginning their first tour of the U.S. I was blown away to see that all of that music was coming from three elite master level musicians. I have been a Rushaholic ever since. Give me the music of that era any day over this digitally massaged and produced music today. I have seen several young reactors say they wished they grew up in the 70’s because of the song writing and musicianship of that era.
this one took me a while to warm up to but has become one of my favorite tracks from Permanent Waves, along with Jacob's Ladder !!! I may be wrong but I believe the song is about the life and evolution of tide pools between tides; I think you guys are ready for some live Rush !!!!! Xanedu from Exit Stage Left, Working Man from Time Machine Live in Cleveland, and YYZ Live in Rio come to mind !!!
I think the cycles of the tide pool are a metaphor for life itself. “Wave after wave will flow with the tide, and bury the world as it does. Tide after tide will flow and recede leaving life to go on as it was.” I think Neil’s talking about planetary history, human and otherwise. Then there’s the stuff about the balance between science and nature and art too. So much to think about! 😍
Thank you so much for this... it was like hearing it for the first time again.... seeing your reaction was so heartwarming. I’ve been a Rush fan for well over 40 years, I first saw them live in 1985 and I’ve seen them do ‘Natural Science’ live (in London) and it was a spiritual experience. This is my favourite Rush song and thank you for taking me back through the decades to being a teenager in my bedroom hearing ‘Permanent Waves’ for the first time and my soul changed forever. Rush are the best band ever and it was lovely to see your reactions. I look forward to more! XX

Great reaction, NP demonstrates why he is the King. Funny how howard stern recently called Rush boring, ha ha, anything but boring. Freewill off this album has one of the best instrumentals in rock history.
Rush could play anything just as good live, have a look at NATURAL SCIENCE live snakes and arrows tour keep an eye and ears on Neil in the live snakes and arrows show, I think this song and THE MISSION, from the same show, snakes and arrows tour were 2 of Neil's greatest ever drumming performances, best wishes from the unusually warm UK.
We don't doubt that for a second and we literally CAN'T WAIT to listen to them live but we really want that same experience all of you had when listening for the first time. The studio version is what was released first to all of you and we want to walk before we run. Thanks for the support and sending some snow from Colorado! :) - Lex
each part is so integral to the entire song and they're executed to perfection by Rush, absolutely incredible. I'd highly recommend reacting to Subdivisions, where they were transitioning more to synth-oriented songs in the 80s. Love your guys' reactions!
Great reaction guys!! I loved watching y'all react to this Rush song as much as I loved it when I ran out and grabbed my VINYL VERSION of Permanent Waves. You don't necessarily have to react to it, but Give a listen to Entre Nous from the same album. If it doesn't make you cry, then try The Garden. IF IT DOESN'T MAKE YOU CRY, YOU'RE NOT HUMAN.
My "cry" Rush song is "Losing It", from Signals. "For you the blind who once could see, the bell tolls for thee..." Also, mostly in a moderate 5/4, with a guest soloist on electric violin. There, that should peak your interest!
The drums are INSANE in this song. Hard pounding, but the fills are so intricate....and what is there 4...5 time signature changes? Only true Rush fans can fully appreciate this. And we snicker at "the others " that can't....
Alex lifeson is the most underrated guitarist in history. This might be the most brilliant piece of music ever. All the changes and tempo is incredible.
Just an FYI Alex does not tap, he once stated in an interview "he does not tap and has no interest in it", he does more pull offs to achieve that effect, if you do check out a live version R30 has a great rendering of the song, great reaction.
This is incorrect. While it's true he barely ever uses his right hand on the fretboard, what Alex is doing in the 1st solo in this song could technically be called tapping or just a hammer on and off with the right hand. Either or. If you check out the live performances of the song, you'll find that he has changed the solo to sometimes exclude the tapping and then sometimes include it. You'll find another example of it in the last solo in Hemispheres Book II.
My Favorite part of the song is when the bass and drums come in so powerfully right after the intro. I believe the lake noises were recorded on the lake right down the hill from LeStudio.
This is according to them there most difficult song to play correctly. It's always a chalenge when they play it live and a big reward when they get it right
There is nothing like Rush live. These concert films are all out on DVD or Blu Ray: Exit...Stage Left, Grace Under Pressure Tour, A Show of Hands, Rush in Rio, 30th Anniversary Tour, Snakes & Arrows Tour, Time Machine Tour, Clockwork Angels Tour, and R40.
So cool the way both of you look at each other when the music grabs you. It's refreshing to see you two be able to really appreciate the way these songs move you.
RASH is way better..lol. check out Umphreys Mcgee, please, you will be impressed
@@mikebanko612 for sure! They do a great cover of Red Barchetta
WOW that is awesome trivia! Thank you!! :) - Lex
L'estudio is slowly coming back to life last I checked
@@dandan-sl3fc did they rebuild it? I had heard it burned down at one point.
@@allisterfiend_2112 as far as as a few months ago they were showing me pictures that there were rebuilding from the fire
@@dandan-sl3fc Wow, That is great news. Thanks!
A masterpiece. 41 years on and it still sounds so good.
Lexi,
It is interesting how you said the opening sounded like "paddling" on a lake.
This is basically how that sound was created organically, Neil and Alex went down to the shore of a small lake at night, set up two microphones and began to move paddles in the water to generate the wave sounds. You are very perceptive!
I'm impressed yet again.
Thank you for sharing and for your support! :) - Lex
I didn't know that thank you for sharing
Imagine being so talented that you come up with this masterpiece on the spot just because you got extra space
Camera Eye is the shit
Natural Science is epic. Xanadu is another watershed Rush song.
Cygnus X-1 is another magnum opus.
This song blew me away as a 15 year old kid in 1980 & still does today. The lyrics are some of Neil's best work.
Proud to say the we Canadians had one of the best bands to ever have blessed this Earth. You guys are adorable.
One of my favorite Rush songs... These lyrics blow my mind every time.
Used to play the LP over and over and reading the lyrics.
I get lost in this song every time. It’s by far my favorite Rush song, but there are too many other favorites to count. Pure beauty.
this was Alex Lifeson's favorite song to play live.
Permanent waves was my introduction to Rush!!! Listened to the almost every day since.
‘Everybody got to deviate from the norm’ - the Rush message
This is the reason Rush is one of the greatest bands to go to a concert for a variety styles in songs and the fact even in their fifties these 3 guys can do over a three hour concert with out any compromise.
Watch the induction of Rush into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame and notice all of the musicians in the crowd giving them a long standing ovation.
I am still affected by Neil’s departure
"A simple kind of mirror to reflect upon our own. All the busy little creatures chasing out their destinies. Living in their pools, they soon forget about the SEA..." (Hold on to your hats...)
Your expressions are exactly the way we felt (Rush fans) when we first heard these songs. Rush fans always want others to share that same experience as we did.
Though they were not always on the top of the charts, there music resonated with millions of people world wide. This music is not specific to one generation, but is shared and loved by several generations of fans. Thank you for posting this and the others.

😷Rush is the most dynamic band in every aspect that music allows. Sonically, lyrically, musically, performing, presentation, writing and production they are just phenomenal. They pioneered and revolutionized so much and influenced so many on all those levels. Almost every genre has a superstar that cites their influence in one way or another.🤘🖖✌️🎸🎹🎤🥁
You two are great.. It brings back my spirit.. To get lost in the sauce of rush music.. Thank you
RUSH is like the narliest roller coaster you’ve ever ridden. What a ride.
Another great reaction by the new King and Queen of Rush reactors! This song is great Live and Alex has said it was his favorite to perform live. It gets better every time you listen to it!
Omg you are the kindest! We have listened to it at least 5 times already! Thank you for your support!! We love having you! :) - Lex
To see them play this live with such effortless grace is amazing. And they do it perfectly 😊
Neil changes the feel and grove so many times in this song...coupled with his amazing fills makes this my favorite Neil/Rush tune.
1976, that was the 2112 album. A classic!
The song is another great journey with the greatest band ever, only Rush can make music like this.🎸🎵🔥🔥🔥👍✌
I agree, it all flows perfectly together and it's extremely fun to play!
Please do the live version from either the R30 or Snakes and Arrows tours. Unbelievable live!
Bytor and the Snowdog is an outstanding suggestion!
@@generoberts9151 Note that All the World's a Stage's version is complete from start to finish.
One of their best, especially the live version from different stages, may I suggest headlong flight from clockwork angels.
This is one of my top 5 Rush songs of all time.
What’s your other 4 dude? How long you got lol?
Well put, sir. Peace and admiration from a huge Rush fan here in the UK.

Wembley and then twice in Birmingham -R30 and S&A.
It is such a joy to see people enjoying this song - a true masterpiece - for the first time. And people who clearly _get_ it! Rock on.

Idk, it’s definitely not for everyone. I’m like the band on COS - sure there’s great playing but it doesn’t come together into great “songs”. Glad you love it but there are plenty like me that find it pretty weak compared to the rest of the catalog. Just my opinion - rock on 🤘

Not a lot songs that were written 40 years ago are as relevant today as the day it came out. I'll put this one at the top of that short list
You should also listen to Kansas music, especially Kerry Livgren’s songs.
R.I.P. Neil
All the transitions, the surprises on your faces. It tears me up 😂

Be Well and God Bless... from Texas!

What I love is they really do take you on a journey with their music.........as you said creative.
Soulmusic.

I love how you love this band. All bands are influenced by RUSH they are such masters of their craft. Timeless
Don't trip on the lyrics.....yet😁
I know I would listen to a new Rush song organically the first few times and then delve into the lyrics. I would recommend pulling up the lyrics just for you guys just because you eventually "get" where they are going with all the time changes.
Dig your reaction, because it reminds me of the first time I listened to a Rush song😳🤯
Take care ✌
Thanks very much you two! It's so fun to watch people experience a Rush song for the first time. I envy you, there are SO MANY amazing songs that will blow your minds.

Great reaction, NP demonstrates why he is the King. Funny how howard stern recently called Rush boring, ha ha, anything but boring. Freewill off this album has one of the best instrumentals in rock history.
If you’re looking for the hook and your attention span is only about 4-6 lines long, then yeah, Rush might be boring.
What does Howard Sterm know. Rush is everything but boring. They are the standard. Another Canadian Trio is Triumph.
YOU WILL NEVERRRRR HEAR ANYTHING REMOTELYYYYYY CLOSE TO A 3 MAN ROCK BAND LIKE THESE 3 GUYS! :) MAKES YOU SMILE, THERE YA GO NICK!
Rush could play anything just as good live, have a look at NATURAL SCIENCE live snakes and arrows tour keep an eye and ears on Neil in the live snakes and arrows show, I think this song and THE MISSION, from the same show, snakes and arrows tour were 2 of Neil's greatest ever drumming performances, best wishes from the unusually warm UK.

each part is so integral to the entire song and they're executed to perfection by Rush, absolutely incredible.
This is when I first saw RUSH live Permanent Waves Tour (thru the last tour in 2015) Best Progressive Rock Band Ever !!!
The drums are INSANE in this song. Hard pounding, but the fills are so intricate....and what is there 4...5 time signature changes? Only true Rush fans can fully appreciate this. And we snicker at "the others " that can't....
If you include transition changes and all there are over ten different time signatures used in this song.
One of my favourite ever Rush songs. PW and MP my two favourite Rush albums!
@@chrismarkle2740 I stand corrected on the terminology I was saying pull offs which should have been hammer on's.
