Alex's solo at the end with Geddy just raw and intense on the bass underneath is one of my favorite Rush moments ever.
Like in so many other Rush songs the guitar solo is also a ridiculously awesome bass solo. The music is almost too rich for a 3 man band.
Definitely
Great guitar solo. Underrated as always with Lifeson
Totally Agree!!
Completely Fantastic ending there
I remember going out to get the album as soon as it came out in '81. This is the song that I wore out on my turntable. Blew my mind when I first heard it. The whole album is a revelation.
Rush is like a fantastic car ride through the mountains. They pull up in your driveway, you get in the car, and off you go. Their music takes you through highs and lows, twist and turns, and then brings you back home. You stand in your driveway, watching them drive away, wondering what the hell just happened?
I think that is a beautiful illustration
Speaking of car ride...... RED BARCHETTA
I absolutely loved how you said this. Especially because I have such an indescribable connection with mountains that this really brought tears to my eyes. Thank you and you’re absolutely right! Sending peace, Lex :)
I love how Dream Theater takes that influence to the next level with their brand of prog rock/metal.
Is there anything so spiritually satisfying as turning someone on to a band and seeing them just dive in headlong? Years ago, this guy I worked with asked me if RUSH was any good, because he has the chance to see them live. Of course I enthusiastically encouraged him to go. He came in the next day completely hoarse and eyes still bugging, just raving. It really felt good to help someone discover RUSH
Finally someone is giving The Camera Eye some recognition it deserves instead of all these requests for Tom Sawyer or Red Barchetta. Perhaps some day the both of you will listen to other rarely requested songs from this group called "Vital Signs" or "Witch Hunt".
Oh yeah! Witch Hunt is one of my favourite tracks on this album with doubled drum tracks. And amazing lyrics as usual.
Btw...speaking of doubled drums...well doubled everything - do a search here on youtube for "Max Webster And Rush - Battlescar" . Max Webster was a supporting act to Rush for a while...they made that little gem together 😄
Edit: Ahh...I just saw NicknLex has already reacted to it...well done
i would listen to Limelite, Camera Eye and Witch hunt consecutively LOUDLY!!!!!
Or Losing It
This was meant as a description of Neil's time while living in New York and London in the early 70's. I've always considered this as Rush's musical version of A Tale of Two Cities (without the tragedy). Just a side note but the final guitar solo was done (as was the entire album) at LeStudio in Quebec, Canada and while recording Alex tried 5 times to nail that lead lick, couldn't get it so he set his guitar down, went outside the studio for a beer and cigarette, came back in and nailed it in one shot!
As for the marathon Rush listen...HELL YEAH! Love to hear 2112 in one session! maybe after you could do Moving Pictures, Permanent Waves, etc. Just let us know and we'll be there with headphones at the ready! Peace and Thanks Greatly!
Gotta keep on risin! I often play this when I drive into New York.
Farewell To Kings lead solo is one of his best, great tune as well
Wow thanks so much for all this awesome trivia! Always welcome! :)
Also we appreciate your support and can’t wait to do the marathon projects!! Also: someone gave away the reason for your name and now I can’t unsee it! - Lex
@@NicknLex oh, and what was that reason? Was it the Jim Morrison angle of it?
@@mr.mojorisin1616 Yes!!
I saw a "The Camera Eye" and i push that like button... One of my favorite song ever 👍
Let me go a step further. That bassline during Alex's solo might be my favourite moment in music ever. 👍🔥🔥
They were so far ahead of their time, they were timeless... Don't be ashamed about getting emotional to Rush's music Nick, it just means you have a soul. it happens to me all the time!!
The Rush “Rabbit hole” is deep. The journey is life changing and it’s a pleasure to be along for the ride. It took me forty years to get through their entire discography, but I had to wait for them to create it. You have the entire catalog at your fingertips and I can see you want to hear everything. I suggest you pace yourself and take time to thoroughly appreciate each track. I completely understand that you want to focus on the music and that will always be enjoyable. But with Rush understanding the Lyrics improves the overall experience exponentially. Maybe try reading the lyrics through before reacting. It will allow you to understand without being a distraction.
TBH just do this however you feel most comfortable, you are going to get a million suggestions on what and how you should react but at the end of the day we are all gonna still be watching, commenting and liking, because it’s Rush and that’s what we do. Thanks!
Wise words indeed! Rush on...
I’m still learning and discovering new things through the music of Rush , lyrics , musical nuances etc . And I’ve been a fan since 1980 . An incredible band who have been a massive influence in my life .
@John Davis I totally agree, they're layered like herbs and spices to the most fine dining experience, but musically as well as lyrically.
Yes John Yes!
Neil Peart is to me one of the Top Writers, Books, music, you name it I loved the book "Ghost Rider" What happened to Neil would have destroyed a lot of men,he is superhuman in my mind
Geddy is a master at accentuating and the timing of his voice, always brings a smile to my face!
Very true
The way that RUSH constructed there music was like a classical composer you never knew what was coming at you next.
I think this song is perhaps one of the best of Geddy's on vocals. His voice is so clear, expressive, and complementary to the music and lyrics. I LOVE the camera eye, and was the last of the marathon long songs that Rush ever did.
BTW, the other two songs on this side of the album are Witch Hunt and Vital Signs, both of which are killers.
Another vote for Witch Hunt...And Vital Signs...and the rest of them...
Make that a 3rd
Indeed, in fact every single song on this masterpiece deserves its own reaction.
I'd say, one of the GREATESTS "Side 2/B"'s of all time :D.
*THIS* ⬆️⬆️⬆️
Every stage of Rush's career is special and incredible. I don't have a favorite era with them. Each is unique and perfect for what they were doing at that time. Man I miss Rush...
Neil's homage to one of his favorite novelists, John Dos Passos. Have always loved the cinematic quality of this piece.
Neil also lived in New York and London in the early 70’s.
Moving pictures one of those albums that have ZERO flaws. It’s where the band really projected themselves as artists and honed it to perfection. Awesome reaction guys❤️
Another masterpiece from the greatest rock trio that ever walked the earth love and respect from the uk.
Neil is the Mozart of drums. He always orchestrated his Art
Love your sincere joy and smiles, guys! On, Nick's observations about Neil's intentional note choices - It's really, more than anything, what he strength was. Sure, he had chops, but above all he was a composer. Particularly when you're in a three-piece group, using the drums as a *melodic* instrument brings so much. No one wrote drum parts like him - what an amazing gift he was to us.
Yep. I saw Rush on the Moving Pictures tour at Kalamazoo MI in 1981.
Some of Geddy's most melodic bass work while he sings the verses. Great reaction guys -- plus it's nice to see a female who enjoys Rush so much!
Thanks so much for your support! :) - Lex
One of the greatest things about Rush is the ARRANGEMENTS. When they put together a song, it seemed to be a group of musical snippets, combined with really deep lyrics often with literary references (Grace Under Pressure is one) a real storytelling insight (read Neil peart's books) and amazing technical chops PLUS dynamic range and tempo changes and composition, and finally the arranging with slight variations with each chorus or a repeated section. All the components came together on this album.
MASTERCLASS! What a beautiful and emotive solo from guitar god Alex!
Rush has always had this amazing ability to pull so much emotion out of me with their music, the lyrics, the tempo changes, the melodies, the aggressive changes, the individual talents of 3 amazing musicians... so good.
No other group can write a long duration song the way Rush does. You never get bored, they have a way of taking you through it and keeping it interesting the whole time.
The Camera Eye: Absolute masterpiece. If you loved Alex and Geddy's final solo, just try Freewill or Analog Kid!
Has to be 30 years since I last heard this song ... brought tears to my eyes
I love this track. So underrated. You get emotional? 😀. Welcome to Rush. All us Rush fans have been feeling like this for 40+ years.
Got to go back stage when they were playing this in LA - late 80’s. Crowd was playing along with it!!
Love Geddy's voice in this tune...so unique. Plus Neil's cymbal work throughout the tune is other world.
love that you get emotional....many of us have and still get the same feelings as when we heard them the 1st times....its nice to re-live it through you two again....cant wait until you get to some of the live stuff.....seeing them do it live is an experience all into itself....understand your reasoning....and I was one who heard their live stuff FIRST , with Exit Stage Left being my 1st Rush album....so for me its harder to hear their studio stuff....love my live Rush...its on another level musically..... keep rocking....
You can’t explain, but I know exactly what you mean. This music doesn’t need words. It goes straight to the heart.
Rush - "Red Barchetta" is another great song that we'd love to see you react to, or review. Not to mention Tom Sawyer, Limelight, The Trees, Closer To The Heart,...
I'm new to your channel, one video and it was an INSTANT subscription. Love you two, thank you for sharing these experiences..
5 Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐!
I really like to see a couple discovering Rush together.
Is there anything better than sharing music with the one you love? Both of you are so genuine in your discovery and expression, and it shows. I believe you have the best reaction channel there is and you are just killing it! I just wanted to share my appreciation for you both and say thank you! Another awesome reaction! Rush on!
This is so sweet; thank you so much! Comments like these really make our day and bring a huge smile to our faces. The amount of joy this channel has brought us is indescribable, truly! We love having you and sending peace, Lex. :)
Music is life!!
I'M A HUGE RUSH FAN! When I was living in North Carolina, I never missed a single RUSH concert over all the years!
This song transports you to NYC, and London. This truly is a masterpiece both in lyrics and sound. GOT RUSH!
This was so awesome to hear “live”. We heard it on the 2010-2011 tour and then again on RUSH last tour in 2015.
Yes, caught them on that tour in Albuquerque. It was absolutely amazing.
It's refreshing to see younger people reacting to music I basically grew up on. I discovered Rush in the late 70's when I was just getting into music...back in the days when I was buying albums based on the album art and the name of the album. "Farewell to Kings" was my introduction to Rush and I've been a loyal fan since. Great review!
My second favorite Rush track, the first being Xanadu.
Me too.
No way could I pick a favorite Rush track.
Solid!! My first is La Villa second TCE then Xanadu.
@@carlgibbons5777 I get it. My top 5 has changed so many times.
Nick, I love how you break down the instrumentation of this song. Also, thank you for your transparency. You got caught up in the documentary and are reacting in such a deep way to their music.
Thanks man! I couldn’t hold back after knowing them on a different level now. Thank you for your constant support! - Nick
@@NicknLex Absolutely! Your reactions always bring a smile to my face! A wonderful way to relax at the end of the day.
I Just stumbled on your channel and love seeing new ******RUSH****** Fans. I've been following them since 1975 and have seen about 90 total concerts only missing the vapor trails tour and test for echoes tour. On the final tour my wife and i seen them in Tampa Fla then Alpharetta GA and finished in Greensboro NC. Watching you two remind me of my wife and I. I wish you could have seen RUSH in the 70s and 80s those were the best times to see RUSH in concert. I subbed to your channel and ENJOY you guys getting into RUSH...What puzzles me is the number of fans that don't have the STAR MAN as an Icon like me for their channel.
The would be great to do a marathon. I would suggest starting from their first album and follow through to see their progression and how their music evolved through the years. 🇨🇦✌
i would say start off with "marathon" XD
@@dabassboss4734 I see what you did there... nice!
@@johndavis9196 had to get that joke in there, no matter how terrible it was haha
This song ALWAYS brings back memories of the Exit: Stage Left video. It was playing in the background at the beginning of the video.
Goosebumps. Every time I listen to this one. My fave Rush track amongst a sea of golden musical magic from my favourite band. Glad you got around to this one :-) Many more still to go - as others have said, the Rush rabbit hole goes deeeeep! :-D
The opening synth chords were Geddy trying to emulate Genesis, and he felt bad about the song because he didn't think it ended up sounding like Genesis. But it sounds like great Rush!
That’s really interesting - never heard that story. Pretty cocky, in a typically humble-ambitious-fanboy RUSH way. Ged wanted to pull off “The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway” and outdo Tony Banks on the keys? So glad he didn’t. The Camera Eye is one of my absolute faves.
You never heard that story, because it's not true!
@@mrjonesy2112 Incorrect. Geddy mentions it in an interview.
I remember this type of sound coming up in the intro of 1984 from Van Halen. So they were inspired by Rush?
@@Musiquesaecouter Not necessarily. It's down to the same synth being used in both songs, the Oberheim OBX. The distinctive "sample and hold" LFO feature is used in both songs and was a staple sound of the Oberheim OBX. It was used in other songs by various artists, the ending of "Mr. Roboto" by Styx leaps to mind.
This will always be in my top 10 favorite RUSH songs, and I haven’t even ever been to either city. Lol
So love that you guys are loving Rush thank you 🙏
You know how when you're flipping through tv channels and you come across one of your favorite movies, and no matter what point it is in the movie you just have to watch it to the end (even though you know every line of dialogue verbatim)? That's how I am with Rush. But it's with every song!
So I got to listen to all of Moving Pictures again 😁
2112 Was my favorite Rush album for so long. That's their hard rock album, that one really is for the stoners and when I was a young wasted youth skater, that album was definetly a big part of my soundtrack! Really really good, but later I found so much more to love about this band!!! Once they did Permanent Waves they really began to speak their own language man. The songs just became so much more touching and sincere as they matured into the 1980's.
Well done for covering another deep, magnificent cut from the masters. There are even snippets of London street conversations interspersed. A farewell to 3 kings 😪 but let's be glad for the amazing body of work they have left us.
You can hear their skill levels increasing as each album goes by. thankyou guys again.
Been listening since 1981,I am 53.. It is ok!
I get emotional on like every Rush song the older I get,no lie... You guys Rock!!!
Awe, Thank you for the heart, {tear}
Love your reactions Nick and Lexi Keep in mind they were in their early 20s when this was written and played they were already master musicians
RUSH is my be-all and end-all when it comes to music. The Camera Eye is my favorite song from RUSH. It is the epitome of everything they are. Pure Magic !!
Geddy made a point to enunciate every word because Neil's lyrics were such a mouthful, again they're songwriting abilities had reached a point where they're were able to weave in and out within tunes so seamlessly.
You're idea of doing complete album reactions is a super great idea, again I feel you need to get to a chronological order to get a sense of how the boys developed as time went on, the reason Moving Pictures became such a mainstream success is a culmination of what preceded this album, the SEVEN albums released before set the stage for this incredible piece of work!
Everything she said, y’all!! Well done my friend!! Be well!
The live version of this song, available through UA-cam channel “ Mystic Rhythms Live” is phenomenal!! Always appreciate these reactions videos in keeping this great bands music alive! Keep up the great work!
Thank you Canada!!
Its about time someone does this great song off an incredible album Moving Pictures! Vital Signs, Camera Eye, Limelight.
I had the privilege of being at the Moving Pictures concert April 16, 1981, Memphis, TN. I still have the ticket stub! Great show!
Thanks for the reaction guys!
This song more than any other paints such a detailed picture with the lyrics. The London segment especially, I imagine myself wandering around London, going wherever my feet and the atmosphere take me, absorbing the “wistful and weathered” pride embedded in the buildings and even the ground of a city that’s existed for almost 2000 years, starting as Caer Londinium during Roman times.
This is my favorite song on Moving Pictures, hot take Tuesday lol
When I first bought this album "The Camera Eye" was the song that I played repeatedly over all the others. And Moving Pictures is a masterpiece with not one bad song on it.This song is very special to me
This song has some of my favorite melodies. Such a hidden gem of a song!
When you are ready, check out Rush's final song as a band...The Garden from Clockwork Angels album. Now that Neil has passed on, the song takes on a powerful meaning. Great reactions!
Love Lifeson’s solo in that.
Thanks so much for your support! We’re definitely going to try to save that one for later given that it’s their last piece. But so anxious to dive into EVERYTHINGGGG!!! :) - Lex
I can't listen to The Garden without getting a lump in my throat.
Can’t get through The Garden without tearing up
@@25newrush
When they played The Garden live with the string ensemble I saw them in an outdoor amphitheater with a warm summers night breeze blowing. I got chills when Alex’s solo started. It was a magical moment.
So Nick has such enthusiasm and Lexi is so immersed that it reminds me of how I felt when I first heard this for the first time
This came out when I was in high school. We have carried our enthusiasm for RUSH for decades now. Its was mostly guy music then and most concerts were mostly guys. We watched as more women started coming and then children and even taking our children over the years. Dont be too hard on us older folks. We have carried the thrill of RUSH for so many years. Its impact on us has been amazing. In the chaos of today's daily living, its great to see that you take time to enjoy the music that has come before you by RUSH and so many other talented people. Each review is like a new gift. Keep having fun.
Thank you so much for your kind words and support! We love having you here! :) - Lex
Back then ( I am 55 yrs old ) we had time, made time, spent time, friends together and music, before cell phones, before MTV. We didn’t have so many distractions.
You are an angel I could watch you listen to rush all day
You are so sweet; thank you so much! :) - Lex
I have a hard enough time with walking and chewing gum at the same time.
Listening to Geddy’s complex bass playing while singing is just pure sonic magic !!
Would be cool to see you guys try some 80's Rush. After Moving Pictures they noticeably changed styles and did it successfully. Signals started it and Power Windows they embraced it and it being the best example. Just an awesome album. Maybe you could do a Saturday full listen thru or something. All your Rush followers would be down for that big time.
They just posted a reaction to Subdivisions!
@@sethcashman1011 They did Red Sector A right before that.
Yes! Would love some Power Windows. Especially Marathon.

One of my favorites. Great job guys.
This is probably one of the most underrated Rush songs. One of my favorites.
That is the beauty of Rush. There is 40 years of music to listen to. Their catalog will always have something to offer the listener whether young or old. I have never tired of listening to any of their songs. I even appreciate their song “Tai Shan”. It is supposedly their least favorite song and most fans agree. However, I disagree. It tells a story and conveys mood and feelings like any other Rush song. Keep listening. Cant wait to hear what you both choose next (hint- “The Garden”).
From the comments I’ve read, quite a few fans love Tai Shan. I think it’s an absolutely beautiful song, classic Neil putting sights and experiences into words and music.
Thank you for another great reaction. Great memories. Every time I hear this song it reminds me of a party I was at while in the Air Force. My friend and I were humming along - loudly! A short time later he was falling out of a tree he climbed drunk and I was rolling down a hill trapped inside a folding chair that had gone rouge and swallowed me up. But I never spilled my beer! Somebody had videotaped all of it. I'm so glad this was before the internet. LOL
HAHAHA this made me laugh out loud. Thank you!!! -Lex
You might wanna checkout something from like Power Windows or Hold Your Fire another different side of Rush. Either way it doesn't matter I enjoy them all.
I second that motion. HYF is as beautiful as it gets. “Mission” in particular is well worth a reaction!
@@billforster1010 from HYF studio I would vote for Open Secrets. I love Mission but it's the live version that shines as opposed to the studio track.
People just request the same songs like it’s the only good sounds.
Huge Rush fan here, since childhood. Unfortunately for me Rush ended after Grace Under Pressure. Similar to how I was finished with Genesis post Abacab. The fire and magic were extinguished......
@@Ontariosound You have missed out on sooooooo much great music. I’m always confused with fans that gave up on Rush. The boys had the fortitude to move on in different directions and explore new things. I for one am glad they didn’t just make the same records over and over like some bands ie ACDC.
Thank you for the reactions and all your insight, especially want to thank you for the sound quality of your uploads!!
Nothing deep just describing two different cities like looking through a camera eye.
New York and London to be exact.
Great reaction guys. The genius of Peart is finding the perfect groove to a song like this; one with such unconventional movements and changes. Its one thing to play this music; but write it? Forget it!
It breaks my heart that you guys didn't get to experience them LIVE IN CONCERT. I've seen them more times than I can count...seriously.
However, watching you discover their amazing music is bringing me *so much joy* - I cannot say it enough!!!

💜💫✌🏼🎵
The deep cuts are what makes Rush such a beloved band. The song that never made it to radio for whatever reason are so rich in melody, creativity and most of all top tier musicianship. Then you add the meaning instrumentally and lyrically, and you have a formula for songs that will stand the test of time.
In regards to doing a Rush album marathon, Id love to see that. Another idea would also be to do Rush's "Fear" series in one take. The Fear series consist of 4 song which ironically starts with Moving Pictures "Witch Hunt" and continues on successively from album to album. The songs were written in reverse chronological order, comparative to album release. Witch Hunt (part 3), The Weapon (Part 2), The Enemy Within (Part 1). The last song in the series is called "Freeze" and doesn't follow the album release pattern. In regards to this series of song, the lyrics are some of my favorite by Peart. I understand, it's hard to concentrate on the lyrics while listening to such great musicianship but since it's a marathon, have the lyrics available to discuss briefly after each song. Thus far when it comes to reactions, you'd be the first to tackle the series in one take.
I'm loving the Rush reactions, keep em coming. Cheers.
I still remember the first time I heard Rush. On the radio all of side 1 of 2112, WOW! I often wish I had never heard them so I could hear them for the first time again.
Neil's Parts are perfectly orchestrated, he always crafts the perfect drum part. The band's transitions are super smooth and not jarring even going through multiple time signatures
I met the band twice back in the 70's. What amazes me is that by this album and their career they were still yet to be or barely 30 years old. I've been fortunate to see them on tour, every tour but 2 since 1977.
Neil was 28, and Alex and Geddy were both 27! Thought i'd just clear that up for you. 👍
SEEN RUSH 20 times from 1984 to 2015 it takes many years to read the lyrics and memorize and about 25 more songs like this
Was SO fortunate to see them at Red Rocks when they played Moving Pictures from start to finish for the first time on tour. Without question one of the best experiences in my life!
OMG I can only imagine. We like like 20 mins from Red Rocks; would have been amazing to see them there (anywhere, really)! Thanks for sharing and for commenting! :) - Lex
What I love about Rush so much (apart from the transitions obviously and their incredible talent)is very like Iron Maiden once they recognize a good riff they sledgehammer you to death with it.Then go back to it when you have just recovered
Hello Nick & Lex🙋♂️ I’ve seen a few of your reaction videos and I absolutely love your RUSH videos. You two are like counterparts! Very grateful I came across such entertaining music reactions and am definitely a fan! RUSH marathon is something I’d tune in to see. A true Canadian fan👏👏👏
I feel the same way you are not alone I’m 54 and this song still gets me to my soul
Been a Rush fan since 1978. Saw them couple dozen times. It's a lot of fun watching you guys enjoy their ridiculous talents on their instruments. Want to do some requests but will wait until you guys progress further into your Rush-fandom! Ok, I can't wait that long...haha...love to hear reaction to Xanadu. One of Alex's best early solos! Really enjoy your show! 😎😎
Wow! Again, loving it guys!
I, along with all the other Rush fans who tune in, could talk forever about the band and their music. Could maybe write a dissertation-type essay about what we think and feel about EACH and every Rush track, and by your reactions it's clear that you will understand that.
As I've said before I'm both envious and delighted you've made a start on your Rush journey.
Bon voyage!

So glad you've added this (and thanks for the shout out). My favourite song - not just Rush song - of all time. An utter masterpiece.
One of my all-time favorite RUSH songs and one that has stuck with me and guided me since I was a young teenager is "Something For Nothing" from the 2112 album. Also the song "Losing It" from the Subdivisions album.
This was a fun to see live, I had always hoped to see it live in person and when I did I almost lost my mind, it was sooooo EPIC!!!
One of Geddy's best bass moments.
Just do Marathon! Lol! What a great song! I love your reactions. You're helping me rediscover what an old man tends to forget! This was my favorite song on Moving Pictures
13:32 LEX DOES IT AGAIN, and on another Rush song, GAWWW what is it about Rush that is just so moving and emotional!?!.. its such a beautiful thing to see Niel and Rush's composing touch people so deeply even after his passing....
HAHA omg this is so funny... you need to watch his reaction to Joni Mitchell... he totally lost it and I was basically trying to comfort him the entire time. Poor thing haha :P - Lex
RUSH Army rewards sincerity.
Love the Rush Family! :) - Lex
Amen to that!
An Album Listening party!! That would be SO COOL!! Live stream an album! So fun!
