- Carson Brown is the newest member of the Red Bull family and it seems like his life's work of building, riding and racing every type of motorcycle known to man; is finally starting to pay off. Carson was an obsessive amateur racer and came up through the Team Green ranks before burning himself out at the beginning of his professional career. Since then Carson was forced to walk an unconventional path to achieving on of the sports most iconic deals, a Red Bull helmet. With Carson being one of the main protagonists in this weekends $20,000 2-stroke race-within-a-race at the Washougal National, there was no better time to bring him in for a chat.

Watching Carson ride a two stroke is the closest thing to dirt bike art
Watching gypsy DIG into American motocross is like a tic... digging in are calfs
He could ride a tricycle and make it look awesome.

I will say this about the KTM family. They stand by their bikes. I bought a Husky 2020 TE250i from a rich guy that bought it at the beginning of the pandemic. He rode it once and then I bought it in 2022 with 4 hours on it. It kept fouling plugs and I took it in several times to try and get it fixed. At 17 hours the piston was scratched. KTM is taking care of everything including a new ECU. It’s out of warranty and they legally didn’t have to do anything. I will definitely be riding the KTM family of products for the rest of my life.
I have an rmx450. Was 7k, done finke on it, heaps of trails, heaps of beach, trip to fraser island. Ride it to work etc. Never even set the clearances as theyre still fine. Keep up with all my mates on ktm. Amount of money left over vs a ktm was enough to buy an rmz250 for MX. Dont see the point in spending 15k on a dirt bike absolutely insane.
@driftke70 because all the big brands are pretty much the same price. And ktms come with a few more nice upgrades from the factory. The only cheap bike now is the rm which is great if people want to kick it/save some money. Besides that it's pick a colour they all cost huge money
I have a 300exc that had an issue with the gearbox due to the primary and secondary shafts missing a machining step, trashed the gearbox. There is no doubt that this was KTM's fault, they weren't interested in helping one bit
Cost me thousands.
It was awesome seeing all the 2 strokes in the races at Washougal, and the smell in the air was even better.
It's high time for AMA to approve two strokes up to 400cc to race in the open class.
There is no pro open class and hasn’t been for decades and no one will ever do that you like most the “2 stroke fans” online are clueless. When Ricky Carmichael was king of this sport the EPA was trying to end this sport and always have what saved it was going away from oil burning 2 strokes. We can never go back if you want to keep riding combustion engines so all you children who have never even rode a 2 stroke just need to stop they were trash that’s why we all gladly switched.
@@jonrugercalm down man lol. He’s just saying the displacement rules are outdated and unfair anyone who disagrees is the real clueless one.
@@jpesicka999 no one cares 2 strokes are not competitive for racing anymore. No one who buys one is trying to win anything so why does it matter.
@@jpesicka999 it pisses me off to no end that all you dumb kids yell about how much you love them and not one of you as ever even rode one. They almost ended this sport they needed to die they were not fun to race or ride like you all think they were we wouldnt have all switched if they were those of us who lived through it know the truth.
@@jpesicka999 all of you idiot’s definitely have not rode the new 300 because it is a turd. It doesn’t feel like a 2 stroke or 4 stroke it is a chugging slow revving turd that is not exciting at all.
Jase I haven't seen a "No Fear" tee shirt in 20 years
I want that shirt too
I love my 2013 250sx. Instead of getting a new bike every year or 2 I just ad some aftermarket parts and motor work to make it feel more modern. 10 years later and I still feel it can run with most other bikes on the track
A 13 250sx is one of the best bikes I’ve ever ridden in my opinion. Rankest power I’ve ever felt in a 250 2 stroke engine. Most people didn’t like the fork that year but I found if you were an aggressive rider they worked really well. Nothing wrong with that bike at all!
I love your interviews with Carson, the guy is so humble, and shreds on everything. Please have him on as a regular I love hearing his knowledge.
I don't deny all the other brands are solid bikes, but I love my KTM 500 for offroad.
I have a 2018 KTM 300XC and a 2023 KTM 250XC in my garage right now. The '23 handles better and is better suspended than my '18, hands down. I love the new chasis.
Carson needs to try out the TM 300 two stroke MX bike with allu frame !!!!
love my 2014 250EXC 2banger . its done endless big multi-day rides through the jungles in Cambodia ... few hard enduro blokes reckon 2013 was a great year for many bikes
Have a 2013 KTM EXC500 best year for that bike for sure.
I have felt that my 05 ktm 125 seems to flex a lot more, feels more plush, and I ain’t afraid of whoops with it, my 22 ktm 450 feels sketchy thru whoops tho, doesn’t feel planted and wants to do it’s own thing
The 2 strokes are great because the every day riders can work on them and afford them.
Manufactures seem to be tailoring the bikes to supercross, it’s a shame, all agility no stability, not to mention sitting on a edge of paper.
Like Carson said, the stiffer frame is more predictable in a hard hit. I have a 2023 Husky with the “too stiff” frame and its friggin great! Arrow straight through the rocks and whoops
I said hey bro. Nice t-shirt!!!
Every video this week starts with Carson digging for tires in the garbage...might wanna look into that amigo 💯✌
Does Carson Have A Support Ride If not He will or Should Have after That performance in the 2-stroke
Doesn’t want to race. He’s happy with what he’s doing in the industry.
Carson is awesome
I went from a 97 cr250 to a 2023 ktm250 sx.first year of a almuminum frame on a 250mx bike. The ktm def doesnt feel stiff and rigid like the 97 cr frame to me. Any have any opinions??
That 97 CR250 was atrocious! That was the stiffest frame ever made. It felt like riding an I - Beam.
@@georgecarmel6114surprised CB doesn't ride a 97, being an "alu framed guy" and also loving the 96 CR250 (same engine)
I'm riding a 2009 KTM 450 XCFW and couldn't be happier of course I ride boulders and techy so don't know anything about older vs newer track bikes but trail bikes you could ride a KDX200R and do just as good on it as riding a 2023 KTM 250xc thats if you know want your doing
Jase, I went from a 22 KTM 350 to a 23 KTM 350. It’s a good bike but it definitely feels more rigid. I’m not overly impressed with the handling. I’ve spent a lot trying to get it right. Next step is selling it.
@djp3819 I run more sag than I did on 17 and 21. And also put a luxon adjustable pullrod on which lowered the rear 1/4 inch. It's $200s, try that. The old bike rode low, this bike rides high. Also running less high speed compression and rebound on shock. 1 1/2 out and 10 out
@@Runk3lsmcdougal ok cheers mate. They definitely ride high in the arse end. They have a stink bug thing going on.
@@djp3819 I spun out in a turn at my local track 3 times within 12 hrs on the new bike, to zero times in 130 hrs on the old bike. Started trying to feel what was going on and came to the conclusion I was getting poor traction from not enough pressure back there. Luxon pullrod
@@Runk3lsmcdougal ah ok I’ll look into that
I have a 2022 350. I think it's the best ktm. I also can't afford a newer one lol. The newer air fork is pretty sick though. I had a 2020 and hated it. they made great improvements in the forks
Kx250 perimeter frame is so GOAT!!!
The frames have to be Stiffer because they are getting sent hard af look at the jumps and ruts compared to the old tracks.
I've done the clutch plate thing. And using a washer on the clutch springs to make the springs a little more stiff. Really it doesn't work that well but if it's an emergency go for it. when the 1997 Aluminjum frame Honda arrived Honda also stopped contingency money. The frame sucked and there wasn't a Honda on the tracks for two years. Almost nothing. then they started showing up again. 97 sucks
I have a 90 cr250 I got a deal on , it’s going to be interesting feel for sure
Hopefully Triumph can replicate that 93-96 CR feel with Dave Arnold on board.
Dave is the bomb! I got really excited when I saw him in that video
So sad to think the factory teams have no clue that the next Eli Tomac is sitting right here
The fans of this podcast are delusional
I don't want a new bike either. The '21 yz450f is what I know. It may not turn as tightly as the new bike, but for flat out riding at mostly high speeds, I'm very comfortable on it. It's dialed for my preferences, and still scares the shit outta me occasionally when I let 'er eat for just that fraction of a second too long. I'd describe the custom tunes I have loaded into the ECU as map1: scary, and map2: scarier. It's way more power than any sane man really needs. 65hp at the wheel all day. Let's just say it's not stock.
Hi Andrew! I used to ride a 2 stroke 250 (08' KX 250). Do you regret getting a 450? I'm considering making the jump. I like mixed rding. A little bit of everything but prefer the track. Thanks and sick bike man!
@@mikeyp9894 If you want the most versatile dirt bike around, then the Yamaha 450 is IMHO the most advanced motocross bike available. For slower technical riding a 250-300cc 2 stroke is easier to ride for nearly everyone. If I wanted a 2 stroke, I'd still buy Yamaha before anything else. I have various custom ecu maps already created on my phone, that can be loaded into the bike for any condition imaginable. No other bike has this user friendly Power Tuner app like the Yamaha.
Lets be real 90% of us arent good enough that the bikes are holding up back. Every single production bike is incredible stock at this point. Spring it for your weight and ride it. It doesnt need a pipe it doesn't need a Vortex. Just ride it. Oh the KTM is holding back Cooper Webb? It must not be good enough for me either. People just parrot what the other guy says
The new frame corners better..its not even close
The new KTM is known to have a break in period. My 2023 300 SX after about 5 hours felt considerably more plush and predictable. Most press guys are riding brand new bikes that haven't broke in.
I love it seems like just a dude that just loves to ride.
The frame on my 300sx is great 👍
Yeah I have 23 xc I agree bike is so good. much better then a 96 cr 250 could ever be. 😂
@tylerbrezai well I kinda lied I have the 300 XC as well but I put the SX tank on it because I do so much of each. I call mine the SXC 300 😆. nobody knows if it's a SX with a 18 rear wheel or a XC with a moto tank
@@TylerBrezaipretty damn sure if Carson Brown says it’s better I’ll believe him over you lmao.
@@jonathanschultz3629 nah, carson changed his story too often. He contradicted himself several times during the interview. So much it unsettled the guy doing the interview. Carson confused himself.
@@damienmcgoldrick4598 ya, He said and has for a long time that bike is one of the best if not the best ever.
Ohhh man how I hate those intros, every time they get me. Asking myself like "have I watched this before?", and then I realise that the first minute is useless!
It's like jumping on a cro-mo race bmx after riding an aluminium bike for years ..feels so nice but not as fast.
2013 kx450 is the perfect bike! Yamaha 2 strokes bikes are so damn good!!!!!
Didn't everyone used to crap on KTM for having too soft frame vs other aluminum brands?
No they crapped on KTM steel frames for being shit. Like snapping in half on a landing shit.
Yes haha, Even heard biased shills like Keefer saying the old frame was near perfect shortly after the new frame came out, yet complained for 6 years about the old frame being too soft exc.
So is it worth it or not??
yes so goof and stable
Dude what are you doing with these intros for short cuts. They are painful
2018 sxf fc 450 or 2017 with aer upgrade!! The lightest 450 ever made with a forgiving frame, less rigid than previous or after models!!!
Go buy newer models and spend 2000 on titanium parts to make them light!!
Minute long intro's dayum

For us amateur riders, a good suspension guy can get the new framed KTMs dialed in pretty well.
Not when u can get a gas gas for chceaper
That’s the thing abt the gas gas. The 125 isn’t much more than the yz but it’s way better. Somehow the husky was the most expensive for 2023
It’s a ktm
unless youre racing or can afford your own personal mechanic to rebuild your bike every 2 hours, you should not buy a KTM.
It’s not any worse than any other bike tf bro 😂 If you can’t afford ktm maintenance then don’t get a 4 stroke in general. They are all expensive as hell.
Oh man my '20 450sxf with over 100hrs that's rock solid must need to be rebuilt then? I love when people just pull comments like this out of their ass
@@chrisbuehler6868 people are stupid. They act like ktm is some bikes that are made to be peak performance on par with built factory bikes and only last one race. Dealer told me mine would fall apart after 10 hours and I’d have to get a new one. 60 hours later it’s still a beast and I would never go back to Yamaha
KTM family has been devastated by the air suspension nonsense.
Thats why they have won 13 out of the last 15 mx2 championships and 6 of the last 8 years supercross championships? you sound pretty dumb bro 😅💯
@@RogerT-kt3zd agree but something has gone massively wrong for ktm in recent years and it looks even worse for them in the near future. Seems like they have zero up and coming riders or they are all going to star. Coopers left and herlings injured yet again and plesenger is always struggling with the bike. They are still strong in mx2 mxgp but they aren’t anywhere near as dominant or a clear favourite. I really hope they sign chase for 24
I’m a ktm die hard, most recently a a 17 350 (150hrs) 20 350 (80hrs) to a 23 husky 350 (17hrs) and honestly I’m really struggling to get to know the frame it feels weird each time I get on it it’s hard to explain, doesn’t make me want to push or race it like previous
@@E63s_Scott expanding too quickly so the money isnt there. How many brands do they need under one umbrella? Lol
Not really the new stuff is pretty solid. Even pros run air suspension. All of star yamaha runs air forks but haiden lol
@@XecuTionNxx "pros run air suspensions" yah.... they run $15,000+ air suspension with mixed noble gases and 1/2 spring 1/2 air combinations that have hundreds of hours of test rider input designed for either a supercross 15 min +2 or 25/30 min moto. Consumers aren't buying that, they're buying crappy WP air suspension lol
@carsonbrown910 even a better person than a rider. Speaks volumes!
Ktm = overpriced fineky junk
Ktm forced the thrift store jap bikes to adopt electric start, hydraulic clutches and now they're stealing the damped diaphragm clutch lol. The Japanese wouldn't of updated shit on their bikes if ktm didn't tea bag them for years and lost customers at an alarming pace but yea support that bargain basement japanese bullshit.
Ok kawi boy
chase will not win on a ktm
Let's see if this comment ages like Milk
I think hi will win Races
Tell me YOU can feel frame flex???? Seriously dude ain't no way on earth.. you ride fast enough to talk about the bikes performance the way you do.. Come on man.. lmfao
I’d say a lot of the guys he get on here talking push a bike to the point it matters what they use.
I think he means the interviewer, not the guests.
