DISCLAIMER/BACKSTORY: I picked this amp up in a local sale about two hours from my house, I remember when I worked at a music shop on the Surf Coast of Victoria in Australia - this amp was on the shelf. It was quite memorable because of the low rumble of the KT88s and the gate/boost built into the head.
This was a bonafide JCM800 with an extra feature in my eyes!
The amp was built around Kerry Kings number one 'Beast' JCM800 that he took on the road for years. Kerry sent this number one to Marshall in England and they modelled this head off of exactly that amp.

Gibson Les Paul Classic tuned to Drop D with a Seymour Duncan JB Bridge - Boss SD-1 OD - - Torpedo Captor X, w/ Custom Bogner 4x12 IR combination SM57 AND a 421 off axis.
No post effects or tweaking - just raw amplifier.

Thank you! I think it gets overlooked because of the fact it's a Kerry King branded amp, honestly, with the beast mode disengaged it's an 800 with KT88s it's pretty cool sounding. Thanks for the sub man, really appreciate it. Hit the bell as well, I've got stuff coming fairly regularly!
Throw the boost pedal out! You want Super gain, play it through an attentuator, dialed down a bit,and Crank your gain and volume to 10

Yep I played through beast mode then boosted in beast mode just because I could. with a Boss SD1. I actually really liked it, it tightened it up - i guess you could run either, but dial one of them back a little!
@@the-tone-zone the assault knob does what please? It's kinda eh overral boost or the boost is fixed and the assault it's jusn an eq curve? Thanks again.
@@szveszs The Assault knob is essentially as I understand - the level of preamp gain or boost included in the boosted section.

How do you like it?
I really rate it with the beast mode engaged. It sounds to me like a classic 800 with an inbuilt boost. The only thing I have to criticise it is that there is no fx loop, however this is studio use for me so the fx loop is null and void.
If I was a touring musician still, then I would want the feature much privy to the JCM800 2203X 👍😊
