Duke Nukem?
@@BillySargent-xk5wz hell yeah!
Its a very unique amp, nothing quite like it. Its not for everyone, but if it's your happy place tone wise, nothing else will do.
The real amp has a nice presence that makes me refocus on the sound. However the cymbals will render that inaudible in a mix. A dash of eq could get it even closer.
@@AlanScottBand that 8-12k band sizzle will get lost won't it! I feel like it's noticeable and obvious however, I think it's pretty amazing how far we've come with modelling technology... I love my tube amps, but I'm not a cork sniffer by any means 😊
I thought I was tripping when I heard the Duke Nukem theme. But realized that you have good taste in gaming music 😎
Haha it catches everyone off guard!
@the-tone-zone I don't know how I ended on your video but maybe you will be able to redirect me for help. This evening I have succesfully plugged the FX loop of my amp(Randall KH120) to my focusrite 18i20(1st gen). I am currently using Bias FX2 for the effects. I do have studio monitors but I want the full power of my amp. Is it safe to do this ? And should I plug my guitar in front of the amp OR into my interface (with this setup)? They are a couple of dudes doing this on the internet. But unfortunately there isn't a lot of ressources available if you want more info on how you plug your amp into your PC(for effects).
@nithaelgiroux780 I'm not really qualified to answer this, but I would say anything you're trying to plug an amp with a power section into, requires something similar to a load box like a Torpedo Captor X or Ox Box. I would caution plugging in a head into an interface whilst wanting to use the power section otherwise without an appropriate product to take the load of the power amp.
@@the-tone-zone Thank you very much for your answer !
Did you bypass the cab?
Sick video anyway you could post the geq settings. Also using jb not even getting close to this gain any idea? Used the same settings the tone is there but the gain is closer to crunch? I have to crank it up to 7 gain 9 overdrive.
@@totc6196 if you go to 1:34 the GEQ setting is right there. Quad tracking also helps, lots of different variables involved as well so I'm not surprised that you aren't getting the exact same sound. Its odd because I have a friend of mine that has a JB in one of his Les Paula and he thinks the output on mine is lower (countering what you've said). So I guess it's testament to the fact that with guitar gear there are many variables and not to mention tbe classic phrase that tone is in the hands.
Possibly the thing is that I’m also using a JB pickup, which doesn’t vary much. I’m not saying you’re wrong. So, did you use the same settings on the real amp as on the Axe FX for the 5-band EQ? It just feels like it’s almost at crunch level-the tone is there, but there’s not enough saturation. Killer tone, by the way. I appreciate the response. Also I noticed you changed the bright cap value just curious was there a reason for that ? It sounds great! Another thing for the axe did you do the same left and right tone variation?
@totc6196 from memory it was quite close, however without looking at the actual model in the axe right now, I believe there is two gain stages. For the quad tracking, it woudk have beje a combination of a 57/906 but slightly varied in positioning.
And in terms of bright cap, I believe it just made it sizzle a bit more, I am really unconventional in the way I dial things in with the axe. There are models in it that sound insane, but respond completely incorrectly when changing values versus the real amp in my opinion. So I guess my point is, dial with your ears.
@ for sure couldn’t agree more. I guess my other question were you splitting two tones left and right? I’m close now I just messed around with it nearly identical just needed to juice the gain a bit and a few other tweaks.
The modeler is always the tighter clearer sounding one.
How do they feel? Im torn between the axe 3 and new tube head.
Man for me it's application and ease. I find myself turning the axe on more than the heads. Not because of the fact that I hate the beads, it's just more convenient for everyday use. The question can only be answered depending on your personal situation. Both are amazing however.
A is the real one
B is more natural sounding, its the real deal
Both sounds have different vibe to me
Just got mine, Chanel 3 dialled is fucking amazing
Diezel Brother! 🤜🤛
At this point everyone's in on the secret that was LP into channel 3, but I think people are still sleeping on what this amp can do with a Strat into channel 2 setup. That thing could be an entire single channel amp on its own. Great tones, hope the amp serves you well
Being open and honest. Even my reaction was "holy shit!" when I plugged this combination in first time, not something I'd explored. Appreciate you and your positive comment, glad you enjoyed it.
Absolutely, thank you for doing a great job showcasing the amp. The fact that you left the settings untouched for the ch 2 strat and lp sounds is really putting expensive thoughts into my head. I'll be back when you post more!
Play better Dave….. you’re shit!
I love this amp. I own the Diezel D Moll, which I love. Sounds like channel 1 and 2 in the D Moll are similar to the one in the VH4
Never tried the D Moll, only had the Herbert Mk3 and this VH4. From what I understand they're all, fairly similar 😊
@@the-tone-zone I have not played the Herbert 3 but it seems like too much gain for me. I want to get my hands on the original Herbert 1

This amp came out a long time ago, back in early 2009. So I want to thank you very much for reviewing this out of production amp which was already replaced by the Mk 3 in 2015.
You can hear the digital artifacts immediately in “A.” I didn’t even have to hear “B.”
What was playing?
B is better
Hi, bro. I liked the presets from your various videos. I want to buy signals for myself. Are they suitable for Axe Fm3?
@@berbadetteclement7446I assume they're universal as I keep my patches fairly simple.
you can only feel the real quality of a tube amp in person, its not about how it sounds recorded, its about the organic feel, the PUNCH that feels someone is beating your chest with a hammer
@@renosaltiel4171 I think it's the reference of "moving air" that is tbe common phrase, but yes I agree with you.
@@the-tone-zone yeah thats what i meant. btw i love both, i have a dual recto and will buy a fractal next year
@renosaltiel4171 fractal is so convenient. But I still like all my tube amps being around!
It seems that mark iv is darker and compressed.
and less high-mid,may be they can be same through different turning?
no one can explain to me what exactly the triaxis is compared to the simul class 2 90. do people just use them by themselves? what happens when you pair them with a tube amp?
The TriAxis is a pre-amp, so it does the bulk of the tone shaping if the sound. Think of it like a distortion pedal on steroids, literally. The output is pretty harsh and scratchy, and isn't powerful enough to drive a cabinet. The 2:90 is a power amp, so it takes the output from a preamp or a distortion pedal and amplifies it to the point where it can power a cabinet. It adds a degree of saturation and distortion, but no where nead as much as a preamp. A guitar signal going in would come out crunchy even on full volume. The normal use is to amplify a preamp output to power a cab, while adding power amp saturation (essentially mimicking a tube amp head, which contains a preamp and power amp in one box). While you could plug a preamp into a tube amp head, and might want to do so to amplify it, you'd want to plug it into the effects loop to bypass the preamp in the head. Plugging a preamp into another preamp generally isn't going to let either preamp shine. A power amp doesn't have much use when paired with a tube amp head. The only use I could think of would be to take the preamp signal of the tube amp head, and run it into a power amp different to the one already inside the head for tonal reasons. One of the most useful aspects of a preamp today is the ability to run the output (usually line level) into a very accurate power amp/cab simulation, either in a DAW or as a pedal/rack unit. People often do that live and run the final signal into the PA. A preamp and power amp paired (into a cab) are the same in terms of what they do as a tube amp into a cab. Tonal shaping with distortion, amplification with tube saturation, and a speaker level output that powers a cabinet.
I have the FM3, can you send me a screenshot? I think I’ll have to manually build the preset.
В preamp, my preamp this ENGL E530, no matter what they say, I always distinguish analog from digital sound, those who have never played on real amplification will not understand this until they try
At first I thought you were going to play Ratt you think you're tough. In my opinion rectifiers are just terrible sounding amps.
Can immediately hear how 'perfect' Tone A is before hearing the B tone. When B came in that reactive low-mid bump came in and it was crystal clear. I really dig the MK tones on the Axe 3 and used them alot. For heavy chug parts that are solo in a mix, it's gotta be the real thing. Everything else will sound killer with the Axe 3! Great comparison, thank you!!
@@neonether glad you got something from it 😊

Pretty close. Real amp sounds more beast but it's like the axe is cleaner.
Great tone
Doggy and SLO 100 = Heaven!
Which do you prefer vh4 or herbert?
@@bulletrider8893 I really like the VH4 more to be honest after having more time with it!
@@the-tone-zone I had a herbert mk3 and I didn't like it. But, I ordered vh4 without trying. I hope I like vh4. Thanks!
@@bulletrider8893 I found tbe herbert too one-dimensional, it's a cool hi Fi metal amp, but I get a sense of versatility from the VH4, not to mention the 800 crunch from channel 2, seriously DON'T sleep on that channel it's KILLER
Presence is WAY too high. Diezel's presence circuit is different from other traditional high gainers. First of all the corner frequency is much lower, meaning that the presence control acts almost like a NFB control. I think the taper is also different, therefore it doesn't have all the usable range after 12 o'clock as other amps tend to have. Keeping it as high as you did here basically takes out the NFB, which, in a high gain amp, can sound very harsh. I tend to keep mine at 12 o'clock or lower to get a tight dense tone
@@dass101 good advice! I hear and read mixed advice re this. I read that these are generally dark amps hence presence and treble need to be given a crank to get them to a ball park, I guess that's half thr fun, experimenting. Trust me when I say I'm new to these and their layout. 😂
@@the-tone-zone Yes, indeed they are dark/mid heavy amps, but that's how they're supposed to sound :) IMO cranking the presence is not adding anything beneficial and takes away from their thick tone
@@the-tone-zoneyes, try this one: Channel 3 Gain 1 Volume 12 Treble 1 Middle 1 Bass 10-11 Master 11-12 Presence 10-11 Deep 10-11 Your Welcome 🐱🦦🐭⚡️🤘🏽
@@dass101 Tone is totally subjective. There is no wrong way to dial in an amp.
Quite a lot of high-gain amps don't have any NFB, like the Dual Recto on Modern Red for example. There's nothing wrong with running the presence this high.
Mark Iv wins this for me. The JP is great but sounds more compressed and not as tight.
Sounds amazing man! Are you using an attenuator at all or just straight into the cab?
@@aaronadie3449 all attenuated brother. I find that IRs get me to where I want to be these days without the bullshit of fiddling with mic placement in front of my cabs. Of course there's a digital element to it, but for convenience it's how I usually roll now.
@@the-tone-zone agreed dude! Saves a lot of mucking around. I was going to say it must've been loud in there if you were going through an actual cab haha! I have an SLO30 and after watching this, it makes me want to play it instantly!
@@aaronadie3449 man go and crank that little son of a bitch. They're amazing amps
I think they used to sound better 10 years ago, or so. Nowadays they are just too compressed and squishy. And they did not fart nearly as much as now.
Many different iterations - this on is an EL34. There is definitely an element of 'fart' as you mentioned. admittedly I have only had this thing for a couple of weeks - still figuring it out, I like it way more than the Herbert though for what its worth.
@@the-tone-zone Yeah, they changed quite a bit through the years. I really wanted to like it, since they are built extremely well and of very high-quality, but that doesn't help in the end. I'm still waiting for the JP-2C to arrive. I had one of the limited Version a few years ago, which i stupidly sold and since then they haven't been available. What do you think of the JP-2C vs the Diezel Herbert MK3?
@@ThyFinalPain I think the Herbert is a very dry amp with lots of low end. The JP2C wins due to versatility and also has a more complete overall tone, it's more defined if thsr makes sense. The Herbert is dry, it does the Diezel thing, but when dialled in the Diezel thing is just fantastic.
@@the-tone-zone Thanks a lot! 😉
it's always a complete WASTE of time shooting out amps in the mix.
1 year passed, nowadays the free neural amp modeler would give anybody a hard time trying to guess the real amp
I have 5 of mark series amps, Green stripe, Red stripe, Blue Stripe and a a IIC+.. if they were vastly different they wouldn't have just swiped each version with just a magic marker swipe or a black dot or a + sign. The big difference in the IIC+ and the Mark III was the third channel. Mesa got noticeably different with the Mesa badging vs the Boogie badges. The Rectifier series,The lone star, Road King,Nomad, etc came later and did sound different... The stiletto was probably the most different being EL34 based shooting toward the Marshall tone. Even my newer Mark 5 EL84 based amp sits in my studio with the older mark III'S and IIC+ it too sounds really close even all these years later with totally different power section/ tubes. The petrucci amp is a modern Mark amp and you can line up all the Mark series amps and NO one in the audience would ever know the difference and most guitar players blind folded couldn't pick them out one from the other especially with the transparent EVM 12L black shadow speaker or an MC-90 black shadow. The IIC+ landed production in the right time to become the flagship vintage boogie. Thats when 80's music was huge and that amp was produced at the right time for the players who made it famous. it didn't make them famous. I would argue a Mark III purple, red, blue or green stripe Mark III could have been used by the players who made the IIC+ famous and those albums and concerts wouldn't have sounded any different. They just weren't available at the time those bands recorded those albums. They stopped the IIC+ when the mark III came into production. They stopped the III when the Mark IV started and so on....they are all great amps and tonally are the same. Most of those bands stopped playing the IIC+ and went to the mark III when it came out because the sound was basically the same but the 3 had a third channel, everyone loved that.
dude ih ave another channel thats called the tone zone too and it has like the shittiest video ever regarding archetype gojira lmfao
