Hi, My 2019 R1250GS (17,000 miles) started doing the same thing a few weeks ago, contacted my dealer, they booked the bike in and replaced (upgraded?) the battery under warranty, apparently a known issue, turned out to be an expensive visit for me though, ordered a new GS Triple Black😏
I HAD THIS PROBLEM. I had this last year and it went backwards and forwards to BMW. They eventually changed my bike only to find that some of the new 1250s where having this problem. New Battery needed from the older 1200 range. They had a higher amps. Never had an issue since. I am in the UK and it’s 30f no charger on it and starts fine every few weeks.
BMW did not fail. They fitted a higher CCA rated battery, new starter and re shimmed the valve clearances on the left cylinder. The engine just about jumps out of the frame when starting. very happy
@John Mooney Sorry to hear that, this is my first BMW and was so disappointed , first they changed the battery and still the same, then they reset the valve clearances and downloaded some factory update and now fingers crossed no problems for the past 9 mths and the future I hope. Seems a lot of similar problems but not one cause.
@John Mooney Exactly, never seen so much fault codes flash on my screen (480miles), but credit due BMW picked the bike up and returned it. Not a fan of Twins anyway but the weight distribution is the selling point for me, not the tractor engine.PS. No ticking from either cylinder - at present ! Good luck with your cure.
@John Mooney seems the ticking was picked up on the engine development but not seen as serious. Let's see, I'm off in June for an 8 country tour in Europe so if I get problems, I'm going back to Yamaha.
I am facing the same problem with a 2022 BMW C400GT with only 4400km. Lack of material quality. It is not normal for BMW to fail in such simple things.
I had a 2004 R1150RT. The starter once broke........the field magnets crumbled. The starter was made by a French company Valeo. I do not hold Valeo in high esteem even before this incident. I bought a Chinese made starter on Amazon called Tangshan. It is still on the bike. It tumbles the engine better than the OEM Valeo ! That is just one of the many reasons why I will NEVER buy s BMW product ever again !! The battery I use, is a sealed 17AH battery used for computer power supplies. The original was a lead-acid 19AH that lasted like a snowball in Hell. The 17AH stays charged for months without using a battery tender. Trinidad & Tobago.
I had the same problem. After a week of non-use, the battery died. It turned out that I had a problem with navigation. It did not turn off and was still using electricity. Navigation replaced and problem disappeared
New update added 24:th of January @hxDI When I check the different places that I link to I find that we are 25 persons that are experiencing this kind of problem with our bikes. It would be really nice if you could write a comment here if you experience the same problem. @hxDI !!! Write what bike, year and where you live !!! E.g R1250GS, 2019, Sweden I want to determine if its based on geography/different batches of the bike. It seems like i'm the only one in Sweden with this problem. Have a nice weekend //Patric

At least it sounds nice and quiet. Mine sounds like a bucket of nails in a cement mixer as it falls down the stairs during an earthquake...
LOL. What a bitch right. Hope it get sorted. Mine was fine once they replaced.
@@TheJOEBELLO once they replaced what?
@@luck02 Replaced it with a Honda.
Hi BMW r 1250 gs, driven about 2000 thousand kilometers and today I had the same problem. I will contact BMW Service tomorrow. Czech Republic

@John Mooney Thanks John , fingers crossed.
mine does this every couple of days , the batteries on bmw’s are garbage they have to be on permanent trickle charge 24/7 when not in use

This is not a problem in the battery, because it starts and then stops, the engine does not hold speed, it can be a fuel pump, spark plugs
Please check yr starter carbon or fuse started. Battery not lower than 12.5v
Did you leave the key fob on the bike? That connectivity can drain the battery
Because bmw change to smaller started from 2011 have this issue.
check the battery charge and the start engine status, battery is almost dead.
Anyway press clutch lever when starts will guard your start engine.

Have you considered buying Japanese? B M W have reliability issues. But you know that now.
seems like this was the compression - decompression valve clearance issue?
