Been using this method of bearing removal for years in the Automotive industry , especially for the input shaft bearing\bushing in end of crankshafts for manual transmissions.Great video and memories
Great man good found a useful tip and learnt what is needed to help the shift of gears but still searching I think my 4 an 5 gear are tight witch when change to to them theres aloud clack wat do think if would help or not please
hello good morning I have a honda trx420FA2 2014 motorcycle I have problems with it it neutralizes me and it does not let me make changes I already changed the angle sensor and it remained the same and I have the PS light on I don't know if it turns on I hope you can help me thanks
I have fixed several of these. Usually, it's the small side of the pie shaped gear stripped out, those teeth being so small. Notice in the vid [5:39] how much slop there is. No good way of fixing. The part is $5 but does not address the wear on the shaft. The shaft removal is not worth tearing the motor down. Two spot tack welds able to be ground off if needed is the practical solution
this thing still shifts like crap..i think the clutches are burnt and warped and not releasing correctly...I have to blip the throttle now to get it out of reverse and first most of the time, and also use the throttle to shift between the forward gears..im sure this thing was rode hard before i got it
@@martyprice5619 yeah i set the timing...so whats the fix of the slop?...welding?..but how would u get it lined up perfect?....if i was to put new clutches in this would i be able to replace the shaft then or does the cases need split to replace it?
@@smith6812 I tack weld which works great. This allows you to be able to grind off the weld if you do ever need to split the case. A good, oil free, clean surface is important to a good tack weld.
@@martyprice5619 where'd you weld at on it? I thought it was my electric shift and angle sensor I replaced them then found out it was that pie shaped gear someone welded on it and it was missin teeth. I got a new one but it's sloppy in there and only goes up to 3rd
ones called reduction gear, the round one is called reduction shaft..you can find them under honda oem parts at rocky mountain atv website...look under front crankcase cover section
my problem is behind the case. I read something that was a recall for a shifting defect part. part number 24620-HN5-671. I will try to remove the case cover and do the replacement without removing the engine. wish me luck. Cheers from Louisiana.
haha..didnt take too long really, maybe 15-20 mins once i was setup to start pulling the bearing..i was sweating it at first getting worried it wouldnt work and then all those paper towels jammed in there and the 100 dollar puller wouldnt work!!! lol..but it started moving so i filmed the rest..thanks man!! that 8mm bit was perfect
And it has funny clips in it!!! I blocked and hid the hater from the comments so I don't care about getting hate anymore, they just get me more views!!! Great video!!! Hope ya get that thing ready for the snow!!!
Wow, you rancher is clean and shiny!!! I have a question for you. My rancher shifts great N-1, 1-2, but 2-3 I have to press the button like 2-3 times to get it in there. I let off the throttle when I shift and down shifting into 3rd is fine. It only has 700 miles by the way.
i have a lot of trouble with mine shifting even after replacing those gears/bearings and e shift motor..im not real happy with how mine shifts, but i have never rode another rancher to tell if mine has extra problems or not...if you watch in this video you see me moving that big gear and that shouldn't be doing that so that shaft is worn and needs to be replaced also, which requires side case removal..also i think my clutches are bad and warped and stick together as when i shift it hits hard into gear..when i first got it, it hit so damn hard it was crazy then it smoothed up some after the first few rides..it had been sitting so i know the discs were stuck..the oil in it when i got it was horrible and i have read about ppl using regular car motor oil that has a additive in that is bad for wet clutchs like the rancher has.. if you watch my latest abandoned house vid at the end im riding and it failed to shift into 2nd and 3rd for me when i was trying to hillclimb..But it sometimes seems to me when the shift button fails i dont hear anything like it didnt even engage the e motor...there are some shift sensors on the engine, im wondering if they should be replaced..their is a lot electrical to that electric shift system so that it wont shift at the wrong time or when your on the gas.. i blip the throttle a lot during up and down shifts and that helps a lot..it seems like it dont like to be short shifted and shifts better when your really getting on it kinda.. all i can say is i seen a lot ppl say the grease dries up in the e shift motor case i have removed in this video..it sure wouldnt hurt for you to open that up and inspect and re grease if needed..i would also take a gamble and replace what i think they call the bank angle sensor thats down low and to the back of the left side engine...it could also be contacts in the shift buttons..try and see when it doesnt shift if you can hear it actually try to shift..i think if its not trying at all its a electrical/component problem like a sensor or the shift buttons..those shift buttons i bet get a lot of water, they cant be sealed perfectly...but keep in mind too that the computer and the sensors controls the shifts and that makes it harder to diagnose..no that i think about it more those shift buttons very well could be a problem..i should take mine about and see if i can file and clean the contacts and see if that fixes it..it should be possible to do that.
oh and one more thing, i found out my clutchs are sticking by testing with the emergency shift lever... when engine is cold like the first time you ride it in a couple day turn on the key switch and put it in first gear, then leave in first and shut off key..connect the emergency shift lever and pull all the way up on it, that resistance you feel is you disengaging the clutchs..now try to roll quad while it in first gear with the emergency shift lever pulled all the way up..i couldn't roll mine so that's telling me the clutch discs are sticking..if you do the same test on a hot engine it will roll..try that on yours someday and tell me if yours will roll when cold..i think at some point i need really to replace the clutchs on mine..i dont ride mine much, but if i trail rode a lot in a big area where there is hillclimbs that shifting problem would really suck and could cause you to get into trouble big time in the woods!..my next quad will be a cvt automatic clutch for sure..no more worries what gear your in or when to shift, just gas it and go like hell!
Smith when I shift mine from 2-3 there is no nose at all, just me clicking the button two or three times. I will have to try that. When I pull the cover off for the es is there a gasket I need? When I do the clutch thing, I am in first and trying to hand shift it to N or 2?
Smith also, I am starting to lean towards the belt drive too. Cause rincons are not good. And all the other in it’s class are belt drive and when I do sell my rancher i will be upgrading. But that won’t be for a while.
@@smith6812 I think you did a heck of a job. I'm not a honda guy, but you taught me something today I never knew. Using Grease and paper. To push bearings out. I work on polaris sportsman's and rangers. They easy to fix . Thanks for the lesson

I am also in the auto industry and you can use white bread
Exactly how I got mine off...great demonstration
Bread works well to remove the bearing. I learned it from a Garage Squad show.
You can also use bread in the whole keep packing it bread pack ect.

I can put a electric shif 350cc change to a 420cc?

Why didn't you trash the motor and use foot gear shift mod ?

@@smith6812 Timing sounds off. Did you see the timing mark on the shaft? Even with correct timing, the slop is making the timing incorrect

When that bearing is seized up what are some of the symptoms of gear shift in that it causes
Whats the part number to the bearings??
So w;hat gear should the wheeler be in when you line up those marks?
I would make sure it's in neutral..
Very helpful. Thank you sir.
Mine will shift soms times n somtimes wont N when it dont shift go to revers n boges down
What is the half moon gear called and the other one that goes to the half moon

Smith thank you
Thank you get trick
Thanks
That motor looks like it’s never seen any dirt 😂
it was caked with burnt on mud when i got it..i tore it all down over a winter and cleaned it big time and acid etch cleaned the aluminum
Ótima técnica!

I think I heard some woodpeckers in the distance...haha..thats a cool trick waaaay better than the 100 dollar puller! How long did that take?

if you watch my latest abandoned house vid at the end im riding and it failed to shift into 2nd and 3rd for me when i was trying to hillclimb..But it sometimes seems to me when the shift button fails i dont hear anything like it didnt even engage the e motor...there are some shift sensors on the engine, im wondering if they should be replaced..their is a lot electrical to that electric shift system so that it wont shift at the wrong time or when your on the gas..
i blip the throttle a lot during up and down shifts and that helps a lot..it seems like it dont like to be short shifted and shifts better when your really getting on it kinda..
all i can say is i seen a lot ppl say the grease dries up in the e shift motor case i have removed in this video..it sure wouldnt hurt for you to open that up and inspect and re grease if needed..i would also take a gamble and replace what i think they call the bank angle sensor thats down low and to the back of the left side engine...it could also be contacts in the shift buttons..try and see when it doesnt shift if you can hear it actually try to shift..i think if its not trying at all its a electrical/component problem like a sensor or the shift buttons..those shift buttons i bet get a lot of water, they cant be sealed perfectly...but keep in mind too that the computer and the sensors controls the shifts and that makes it harder to diagnose..no that i think about it more those shift buttons very well could be a problem..i should take mine about and see if i can file and clean the contacts and see if that fixes it..it should be possible to do that.

yeah there is a gasket, you may or not get lucky saving it..dont think it cost much tho...when you pull up it will go into 2nd gear i do believe
Damn $100 for a damn bearing puller thats bullshit lol but hey at least you got them out
Yeah 100 was for the cheap set!..the problem is the kits have about 5 different sized pullers for different size bearings..i only needed the one size
Great video.
Thanks..give it a try if you got a blind bearing to pull and no puller..worked pretty good
