Been trying to come up with a slam build and it is tough. I don't know if I wanna go berserker or chieftain. Berserker lets you focus on rage stacking, seems to deal more damage and has double exerted attacks for comfiness. Chieftain you get a 7L + Infinite power warcries and also pretty easy ~85% max elemental res (combined with a lightning coil). On both of them though, it seems crit is a no-go, at least until a lot of investment, and you're gonna be resolute techniques. Been also trying to decide if impale is worth it or not. In PoB it gives tons of damage (you can download a 3.25 beta tree), but takes a support gem + 7-8 points of investment to use it. Also thinking about using the Impaler Keystone along with it. Lots of stuff to figure out and work with. It is really interesting. Haven't played a slam build since they were first added. I actually don't mind pianoing warcries, but that may change if you're not berserker and getting double exerted attacks. Chieftain also seems that it may be good to get some of the warcry buff effect on the tree since you're always at max. Gonna be interesting to see how all this turns out.

with infinite warcry power and some increased buffeffect you can use battlemage to get +4% basecrit from your warcry. You should also use staffs because crit is just way too good on slams, the way higher crit makes more than up for the lower base damage. Maces and axes are better early before you go crit but staffs so far have been the better option at the medium to high end due to insane crit multi at a much lower investment.

a good slambuild could already oneshot guardians, i did that in affliction. Also i think new warbringer is bait, if you automate exerts you only need 25% reduced cooldown on slams for exert on intimidating to never run out if you stick to the fist of war slam cycle. This quickly makes chieftain a better choice because 500% explosion and fist of war as a free 7th link is pretty darn good and on top of that you get pretty good defenses with the resist thing. Also full warcry power on chieftain is genuinly insane coupled with the 30% buffeffect, you can automate maybe two slams where you don't really need the buffs like seismic or intimidating, but with battlemage and infernal cry you can easily get +4% crit and around 45% of phys damage as extra fire. The buffs are actually huge now. And i know many people hate the piano gameplay but it's not nearly as bad as people make it out to be, with some warcry speed it's near instant and you only attack every 2s anyways at most, most of the time even less because if you build correctyl nothing outside of big bosses should survive a hit from you while you clear the entire screen with a single hit. A lot of things changed though so we have to see, slam meta might be way diffrent from what we expect.
Thanks for this video. I was thinking about something like this after looking at the changes, but I started in affliction so I assumed I could be misinterpreting or missing something that made it not as good as I was thinking. Nice to hear I am not too far off the mark.
Chieftain slams with infinity power warcry is looking solid. You should easily sustain full rage with the rage mastery, sure you are gonna piano to get the full effect but it should be insane on top of getting chieftain defenses. I'm tempted to just cheiftain tectonic slam
The lines for Overexert are separate, so they should multiply (See Arcane Surge for a similar support). That would make your example (12% more x exerts ) x 10% more so it would actually be 49.6% more. Not huge but every little bit counts!
Great content! I am confused about the 60% more damage with the War Banner though... =( Here is what I thought it would be: 4% more dmg * (50 stages * 5% effect/stage) = %4 * 250% = 10% more dmg How did you get to 60% more?
> Provides 5% more Area of Effect and 5% more Aura Effect per Valour Consumed at gem level 1, both scaling up to 10% at gem level 20. Banner grants 8% increased Accuracy Rating to You and Allies, and 4% more Physical Damage with Melee Skills to You and Allies at all gem levels. > Banners also cause Enemies to take 8% increased Damage (mastery) I can get there for 4 + 3 passive points: 4% * ((50 base stages + 55 extra max stages from tree) * 10% more effect/stage) * 1.25 increased banner aura effect from tree + 8% = 60.5% If you don't want to spend any passive points then yes it's only 20%. Ran RF in Necro league, had ideas for other builds for 3.25 but after watching your stream last night you sold me on a slam build. This video just solidifies it.
If we're considering slams, I'd recommend taking a look at Ice Crash. It has 100% base Phys -> Ice Conversion, has the 2nd highest added damage effectiveness of any slam (661%), and can freeze (especially with boss action speed cap now at 50% from 70%). It also seems to be the largest beneficiary from the crazy 50% phys as extra ele enchant since it doesn't need any investment whatsoever in conversion.
I want to try tectonic slam of cataclysm ignite chieftain or rage vortex of berserking berserker. After watching this video, a regular slam build using autoexertion sounds very cool too. I can't decide what to start!.
Hey Lance, are you sure automating warcries will be good enough? They currently have very good buffs (especially when paired up with Infinite Power that secures their maximum effect + warcry buff effect) and the support got reworked - "It now reserves 15% Mana per Supported Warcry to cause those Warcries to be repeatedly triggered. Autoexertion Support can now support multiple Warcries, and no longer causes Warcries to share Cooldowns. It now grants Supported Skills 0-19% increased Cooldown Recovery Rate (previously 30-11% reduced Cooldown Recovery Rate), and now has "Supported Warcries do not grant Buffs or Charges to you or Allies"." so it becomes a 45% reservation aura that removes warcry buffs (and the reason to scale Power) - but keeps the exertion effects which are technically the main profit. It still has 150% mana multiplier and those auto-shouts will have an impact on your mana sustain (new mana cost reductions don't apply to them as they aren't attacks and 15% conversion to life cost is the maximum with a mastery). How fittable is it on a melee build that should run Determination, Herald of Purity and possibly one more aura?
I'm interested in the level scaling of the gems now before I make my choice, but I'll likely remake my old 3 warcry and general's cry slammer. Once I see the 20+ scaling on the gems I will make my choice, it's not that hard to get 30 odd levels.
I'm going chieftain for sure for slams. Easy 90% all res with fourth vow\lightning coil, infinite warcry power and 7 link. Later can get double exerts with forbiddens.
is War Bringer necessary if you just deal with the obnoxious pianoing, that i happen to enjoy actually and have high recovery? or is it alot more damage than just QoL?
This shoudl work well on Chieftain as well right? Especially for hc? Staff Crit with the new cry effect and higher base crit on staves to include some extra block as well.
I've been hoping and praying that I'll be able to play VFoS without having to play Boneshatter through Delve to get up to 150div Str Stacking gear to make it viable. It has happened. Volcanic Chieftan coming right up! So stoked for a melee league!
2things: 1 yes the auto exert support gem now only is used in the cases where you care about the specific exertion effect(50% more aoe seismic/double damage intimidate) 2-automation for warcries can be done through items like eternal apple still as for warcry duration, they have been normalized for 3.4 seconds which is higher in most cases and very easilly increased via warcry nodes having a lot of warcry duration and increased duration support being a "more" multiplier for duration instead of increased now. So generally if you want to play around there buffs it will require thinking like eternal apple setups OR outright pressing them manually(example being I am considering RF where I don't have much to do so have plenty of freetime to do a warcry every now and then)
@@CaptainLance9 double dmg don't count in the buff sect i think, so you still get double dmg even with automate, i could search again but i'm prestty sure i did this back in the day and it doesnt count as the buff part.
I would be interested by PoBs for your slam ideas. I'm considering a Juggernaut because I prefer tankiness and not dying, but if the Berserker can have interesting damage without going overboard with investments (I only get a few divs with my available play time) and clear screens, then the probability of dying gets smaller and could be a viable alternative for my play style. Please consider making a starter guide and PoB for slam skill. I was also looking at your General's Cry build for Bladestorm. Do you think that General's Cry is still a viable way of playing ? I was thinking of using GC with Tectonic Slam of Cataclysm. Would all the slam multipliers also apply to the clones ? Thank you for your feedback. Have a great day/evening/night.
I'd say this scales very comfortably as RT, so no need to stretch yourself thin trying to solve for crits. But if you were to do this, the cost-efficient options for accuracy are Precision, suffixes on gloves/rings/jewels/weapon, Eater gloves implicit, Eagle Eye cluster with mastery, Transcendent Spirit (socketed south of Scion start for 5×125=625 raw accuracy), and possibly a lucky Megalomaniac (with Graceful Execution and/or Martial Prowess together with 1-2 other useful nodes). Hits can't be evaded craft is also an option if you don't mind losing a damage prefix.
hey I thought I wasnt going to return to poe till poe2 but here I am. Any chance you can put together a basic gem link guide for min maxing physical dmg builds? I want to do sweep. My only concern is, when I automate Intimidating Cry I lose out on the Overwhelm buff. Do you think that's worth it? Regardless, I was planning the same build with Earthshatter specifically. they added a new annoint called Always Angry🤣. Gives 8 minimum rage lol. W8 how would that work with something that consumes rage like berserk? Would it just keep it active since u have 8 min rage, or just consume it then put u back at 8 rage?
Are you worried about the uptime of the cries? Seems like durations were nerfed across the board on those. Also, seems like mana is gonna be a major issue

Battlemage's Cry still seems nice to use to automate some support spells on hit, on top of all the more% from Overexert and Echoes of Creation
Oh captain, My Captain! Chad melee vibes
Tectonic slam of cataclysm is going to be insane at map clearing
I'm interested in the level scaling of the gems now before I make my choice, but I'll likely remake my old 3 warcry and general's cry slammer.
Once I see the 20+ scaling on the gems I will make my choice, it's not that hard to get 30 odd levels.
I'm going chieftain for sure for slams. Easy 90% all res with fourth vow\lightning coil, infinite warcry power and 7 link. Later can get double exerts with forbiddens.
This is EXACTLY what I want to play I hope you make this build happen
is War Bringer necessary if you just deal with the obnoxious pianoing, that i happen to enjoy actually and have high recovery? or is it alot more damage than just QoL?
I'd love to see a slam starter guide from you Cpt. Lance :)
If you have time I would love to see both of these PoBs coming together, both builds looks like great options to play as a starter. :D
This shoudl work well on Chieftain as well right? Especially for hc? Staff Crit with the new cry effect and higher base crit on staves to include some extra block as well.
I don't get it. You use autoexert but still talk about all the bonusen? Are they not disabled?
I've been hoping and praying that I'll be able to play VFoS without having to play Boneshatter through Delve to get up to 150div Str Stacking gear to make it viable. It has happened. Volcanic Chieftan coming right up! So stoked for a melee league!
how long is your room gonna take? i feel like ive seen your room unfinished for a year now or so :P
oni-goroshi tectonic slam looking REAL ENTICING RIGHT NOW
Yo is that any good?
@@alexdicicco5230 yeah oni-goroshi is a good option until you can afford nebulochs (and cope with the degen from them)
@@SpazerLaser any good pob too follow ?
Is the AOE and the double damage not a buff effect? (from int cry and seismic?)
With the new call to arms the warcries no longer give any buffs right? Just exerted attacks.
yeah, this is pretty bad, if u want the buffs u need to use the warcry manually AND they now have very very low duration, idk how that can be good
lance says he can automate 2 warcries for the buffs, that cant be done anymore, right?
2things:
1 yes the auto exert support gem now only is used in the cases where you care about the specific exertion effect(50% more aoe seismic/double damage intimidate)
2-automation for warcries can be done through items like eternal apple still as for warcry duration, they have been normalized for 3.4 seconds which is higher in most cases and very easilly increased via warcry nodes having a lot of warcry duration and increased duration support being a "more" multiplier for duration instead of increased now.
Do you think I can fully automate my cries for Earthshatter aund Auto-Pop the spikes with Autoexertion?
Nice, CaptainSlamce9 :)
bro Capn is selling a third build to me already, man, choices are gonna be tough 0_0 looks awesome tho, thanks a lot for sharing!
Would you plan to do this with RT? If not, how would you plan to solve Accuracy for a left side of the tree, mace build?
Back in the ritual days the old tectonic slammer build used hits can't be evaded craft from Vagan veil once you wanted to transition out of RT.
I don’t understand where the multiplier is? Does it say it under the skills?
Also echos of creation gives you a self damage effect which may be useful for one of the new when-hit skill gems. The one with the big fist maybe?
hey I thought I wasnt going to return to poe till poe2 but here I am. Any chance you can put together a basic gem link guide for min maxing physical dmg builds? I want to do sweep. I think bleed sweep would be the best version for max dps but I have been away from the game for 5 leagues give or take. Tldr guide would be sick.
How would you go about building an ice crash character with these changes?
Ground Slam impale are back baby!
are Gruelling Gauntlets a reasonable add to warcry builds? im new to this so i have no idea
Would an ignite slam build work? Or are they only good for phys dmg?
ua-cam.com/video/zvt17B_a4to/v-deo.html
so now my ice crash of cadence slayer can blast without 5000 div invested? login
can attacks of earthbreaker totems (still on dawnstrider) be exerted by warcries? I guess not since the exerts are only for you, right?
doryani's fist or bust
Sorry but where can I read / watch about Herald of Purity and Guardian Blessing tech? I just dont understand how to use both. Thanks.
Melee damage wise looks very spicy this league but defense wise im not so sure. Besides the endurance charge change what else is there that will make a big difference? I guess for sanctum farming it doesnt matter much.
Banners are so cool! I wanted more focus to remember to pop ❤🔥
Doryani's Touch, here I come baby xD
Im definitely excited to try EQ Bleed again haha, especially with aggravated
This I will put on my radar as something to try out. This could also be altered for bleed earthquake setup for better survivability.
With the Auxium bug fixed and kalandra crafts back will you go self-chill again?
I really want to do double strike of impaling. I can't decide between Jugg or Slayer, though. My initial leaguestart was shield crush but I NEED to try out these new numbers.
What about slams on chielftain with new node maxing warcry power uptime?
Look forward to your slam league starter!
will automation be good with earthshatter wont u lose some damage if u explode like 1 spike?
My only concern is, when I automate Intimidating Cry I lose out on the Overwhelm buff. Do you think that's worth it? Regardless, I was planning the same build with Earthshatter specifically. I'm not sure why people are saying War Bringer is bad, just like you I'm excited over it.
EDIT : Just found out Intimidating Cry had it's Overwhelm removed. Makes sense now!
You dont automate Intimidating cry, only Seismic and Rallying
@@Subxenox15 I just realized that Intimidating Cry lost its Overwhelm. So that's 100% going to be the one to automate.
Cap how do you feel hexblast mines are going to be as league start this league? Still a good starter?
Jugg earthquake is back on the menu boys
is Energy blade good at 3.25 ? , im lf league start sanctum build
gravicious craft is now "Banner Aura Effect" would you consider using that or is that bad?
I'm thinking about just doing my Kondo's Pride Cleave Cruelty build. It was some random jank piece of crap build I put together and somehow got to Red maps with it. It's the whole reason I bought the Cleave MTX.
Do you think the energy blade sanctum farmer and tri stack hexblast are still good?
I haven't player a Berserker build ever. Would love to try it if the slams are actually this good.
Slams so good made Lance think about what he really likes xdd
Actually, i always wanted to try sunder ever since it got reworked, so i guess, if u decide to go this route - im here for the hype train
thanks for the vid as always, good stuff
What do you think on Endurance Charges stacking Chieftain Tectonic Slam?
Can you make a guide please before the league start?
Got me wanting to start a slam build now
Lance, my dude, you are cooking.
Going to be trying out a melee Warden build! I think double tincture is going to be insane with some of the tincture nodes they spoiled! Also, the 100% more damage shock is INSANE!! I love it!
they added a new annoint called Always Angry🤣. Gives 8 minimum rage lol. W8 how would that work with something that consumes rage like berserk? Would it just keep it active since u have 8 min rage, or just consume it then put u back at 8 rage?
8 rage would be the new 0.
Are you worried about the uptime of the cries? Seems like durations were nerfed across the board on those. Also, seems like mana is gonna be a major issue
do you have a video about the hexblast you mentioned?
im more sold on staffs like Eventuality Rod which will have 8.3% base crit and considering how disgusting endurance charges are going to be especially on jugg
Staves never had a problem capping crit, they are comparably low on %increased however.
@@txflood2519 yea i know, but its not like you equip one and you are capped. that base crit is almost a crit chance support which can be very useful earlier in the league to replace with a "real dmg link"
