    Hi guys! Apologies for the messed up audio at the end of the video. This is due to some copyright issues with the music which resulted me in editing it out in the end. Hope you enjoy the rest of the video nevertheless.

      I see you missed the MAX thanks to the delays, I changed my trip and pushed it back. It will be for 6 hours.
      I prefer the 787 on the BOS/JFK-LGW routes with DY.

      When I Travel The World Yeah no MAX...was gutted at first but was a novelty flying on the 800 for 7+ hours 😂
      Not been on their 787 yet but I am eyeing up their LGW-SEA route...

      It's crazy isn't it? But when you think about it, the 737 flies from Scandinavia all the way down to the Canaries and that's probably as long as heading across the pond! Thanks for watching :D

      New eco-engines allow the Norwegian 737 aircraft an ETOPS certification. Norwegian’s 737 aircrafts also use the scimitar winglets.

    Providence and Boston are two completely different cities, they might be close but they are in different states. EDIT: I read your other reply saying Norwegian markets Providence as Boston, typical budget airline. Thinking about using this to fly to Europe from Charlotte through Providence as I like the size and ease.

    • @SOPLANETUBE
      @SOPLANETUBE  6 років тому +1

      I know it is such a shame as Providence is such a nice place. I was told that people get on that plane not being aware of Providence at all and hop straight on a bus to Boston. You should totally do it - it's fun taking the 737 TATL....for me anyways haha. And transiting at PVD beats any major airport I would think...

    • @lukew67
      @lukew67 6 років тому

      SOPLANE agreed. Recently I have been flying the Sydney-Auckland route down here between Australia and NZ and using the 737 narrowbody beats a big plane anyway of the week. Did that route on A380 and queues for check in, boarding and leaving plane are crazy, I love ease when I travel and the seat size is virtually the same so who cares!

    Wow... I was impressed by this flight. It is a truely new service to connect the States with Europe with a narrow body aircraft like the 737 with this kind of low cost service. But there is more to come in the next years with the A321LR I guess. Very interesting and having the whole row for yourself it looked like a relaxed flight. You won´t get any cheaper across the "Big Lake" I guess. Best regards and thumbs up!!

      @SOPLANETUBE  7 років тому

      Hey! Thanks for watching and commenting. Yeah, I love the idea of hopping across the big pond on these small planes without having to go through immigration at EWR or JFK which can take forever! You should try it....it was good fun!

      Hey, jetzt schiebe ich es mal auf Deutsch hinterher :P Der Gedanke ist wirklich reizvoll. Beim nächsten Urlaub ist es definitv eine Überlegung wert. Bist du dann von Deutschland schon gestartet oder in EDI direkt?

    • @SOPLANETUBE
      @SOPLANETUBE  7 років тому

      Laid-Back Flights Ja auf jedenfall - Frage ist halt nur, ob man mit oder ohne Gepäck reist. Mein Ticket war spottbillig, weil ich nur mit Handgepäck gereist bin - fürs Wochenende, und auch kein Essen wollte. Ich hatte auch einen Promotarif - £165 retour. Der Normalpreis liegt bei £250 glaub ich. Wenn man da Gepäck dazugibt, ist man schon bei der £300 Marke und da ist der Unterschied zu BA etc bei Transatlantikflügen nicht mehr groß.
      Ich wohn übrigens in GLA - wo wir jetzt bald viermal die Woche eine Lufthansa Rotation nach MUC kriegen 😍😍😍

    • @TCAS330
      @TCAS330 7 років тому

      Mhm... ja mit Gepäck wird es direkt teuer, leider. Trotzdem interessant sowas. Achso, mensch ja dann ist es recht passend von dort zu fliegen natürlich :D Für mich ist es dann wohl eher nichts. Der Aufwand nochmal nach England zu fliegen ist dann doch zu groß im ersten Moment, denke ich. Da ist es ab München komfortabler :P

      No different than airlines flying 757's over the atlantic and that has been going on for years by multiple airlines. The 737 and 757 have identical interior cabin width.

    • @mikeyancell8092
      @mikeyancell8092 7 років тому +2

      SO PLANE I did that in May - it was delayed by half an hour but only cost £200 including baggage for GLA-Halifax-Calgary - great service (Canadian folk are so amazing - my girlfriend is a Calgary lass too lol) and they had ife via app, power sockets, usb, snacks and non alcoholic drinks are free - best part was 30 seats of 130 being occupied on the 737-700 - felt like a private jet!! It was as 5 hour 45 min flight (we then had 7 hour 30 min stopover then 5 hour 30 min 737-800 flight on to Calgary) I return to Glasgow via Halifax in August for same price as outbound leg but it only takes 15 hours including stop instead of the 20 it took the way out to Calgary from Glasgow.

I really want to try them out one day....wonder if I can squeeze them in this summer. 7.5 hour layover though.....what did you do??? Did you have time to do some sightseeing? I might just get out in Halifax...haha

    • @mikeyancell8092
      @mikeyancell8092 7 років тому +1

      Hey! The staff are so upbeat "let's get this Boeing going" lol we had to go with the long layover of 7.5/8 hours because the other options included 2 stops instead of 1 and the first stop was less than an hour so we didn't want to risk missing an onward flight (we had missed our first flight ever about 3 weeks before with BIMAN Bangladesh in Dhaka because of delays so we didn't want any other issues going forward) so we chilled in halifax airport the whole time before going on to Calgary (the home of westjet and the longest runway in Canada) got my first taste of Canadian beer and nachos in that 7.5 hours ;-) - "New Scotland/Nova Scotia" looks amazing from the sky - very like our Scotland :-)

    Fantastic to see you do the new service from Edinburgh, I really enjoyed it. Been watching Providence and Newburgh on a daily basis on FR24 and a two hour delay is pretty common. Looks like a good enough product, if only they could improve punctuality, difficult when only 60% of Norwegian flights arrive on time. Didn't realise you were from my home town, liked the way you did the self catering on board. Next time `make yur ain piece` thats even cheaper haha !!!

    • @SOPLANETUBE
      @SOPLANETUBE  7 років тому +1

      Hey! Glad you enjoyed it :D I enjoyed the flight as well haha. Don't know what all the moaning is about flying long-haul on a 737! It was fine! I know I had three seats to myself but still. Norwegian is totally fine as well - you get what you pay for. I don't understand people who pay peanuts and then are all up in arms when things go wrong. I would totally fly Norwegian again.....to Providence! Loved that place so much! They say that Seattle is a small version of Vancouver and Portland a small version of Seattle. I would say that Providence is a small version of Portland...haha....it is so weird and quirky.
      You're a Weegie as well....pal? haha...I am only an honorary Weegie of 10 years. LOL

  • @Whenitraveltheworld

    Very interesting flight, probably nothing worse than a 737 with no real IFE for 7 hours though lol. Nice to see you got a row to yourself and some pretty good leg room. Thanks for posting, might just skip my flight with them all together on this route after seeing this.

    • @SOPLANETUBE

      When I Travel The World You know what, it wasn't bad at all. I really enjoyed it. Sort of took me back to simpler times haha. I made sure to have enough stuff on my laptop to watch. Sometimes it really pays to have short legs but guess that having the row to myself did make it hat bit sweeter. The real surprise was Providence itself - loved that place!
      You sure you gonna skip it? Feel bad now depriving your followers of this hahahaha

    • @Whenitraveltheworld
      @Whenitraveltheworld 7 років тому +1

      Yeah I guess the IFE won't really be an issue providing you can bring a laptop or something on the plane. Providence is a pretty nice place, I might just push back my flight as far as possible to 100 % make sure i'm on the MAX when its in service.

    • @SOPLANETUBE
      @SOPLANETUBE  7 років тому +3

    • @SOPLANETUBE
      @SOPLANETUBE  7 років тому

      They have back-seat TV screens on their 787s but not on the 737s. The only IFE you get is streamed content to your personal device. I assume your flight will be on a 737 to Ireland?

    I'm thrilled to see our local PVD airport start transatlantic service!
    However, ironic fact: At the time there were no flights available west of Chicago. (Southwest pulled flights to LAS and PHX years prior; not sure why since every flight was sold out) Frontier recently started DEN flights. I'm hoping these longer flights catch on and stay for good.

    Interesting flight! Very nice video! I've tried the 737-700 across the Atlantic with SAS on their CPH-BOS route in economy and it was so weird to cross the Atlantic in such a small plane. But they handed out iPads with a few shows and movies, which was nice, food provided too by SAS. Flying back to Copenhagen tomorrow. Only 86 passengers which is nice. 20 in business and rest in economy.

    Firstly, It's nice to meet a fellow Glaswegian that's into flying/aviation. I actually live in EDI now and fly with Norwegian regularly and was thinking of doing this exact journey. Glad I found your video. Had been searching on youtube almost every week since the route started flying. Also it's a shame you flew on the 737-800. Norweigian actually had planned to use 2 737-Max's which they got from Boeing recently. Maybe they haven't fully rolled them out officially yet, but I'm sure they have them in their possession. I'm sure the new 737 Max's at least have a USB outlet. Anyways you had the whole row to yourself so that was a nice perk. So I have a couple of questions as I'm thinking of starting to record similar trip reports.
    1) Where did you purchase that window mount for your go Pro. Can you share the link?
    2) How big of a power bank did you take with you, in terms of mAh? I have a 5200mah one but not sure it would last charging the go pro for 7 hours of continuous filming.
    3) What are the other camera's did you use?
    4) How do you get steady footagewhen walking around the airport filming? Do you use some sort of gyro stick?

    • @SOPLANETUBE
      @SOPLANETUBE  7 років тому +1

      Hey pal! LOL
      Glad you found my video :D I was really hoping for the MAX which was initially scheduled for my flight but they had to bring in the 800 due to delays with delivery of the MAX. The first one has arrived in EDI though in the meantime.
      USB outlets - no, none of that on the MAX either. I got an email from Norwegian right at the start informing me about he lack of power outlets on the plane and that one should bring their own power pack.
      The reason why I had a whole row to myself was because flying the 800 across the pond comes with weight restrictions which mean that they couldn't fill all the seats. Unfortunately (for passengers), this won't be the case with the MAX from what I understand.
      Now to your questions (I am digging your numbered bullet points...I always do the same!):
      ad. 1) I got it on Amazon - a Joby Suction Cup. I use the one with the locking arm but you may want he GorillaPod Arm www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=joby+suction+cup&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Ajoby+suction+cup
      ad. 2) I have a system for my batteries and SD cards. I have 4 batteries and SD cards, all numbered 1 through to 4. I always use battery 1 with SD 1, and so on.
      With the Hero 3+, a battery lasts 2.5 hours. So every 2.5 hours I change battery and SD card. I fully charge all batteries in advance so for the 7+ hour flight to PVD I technically did no have to re-charge any batteries inflight. Best thing would be to run your batteries dry and test how often you can charge it with your 5200mah power pack. Hope this helps?
      ad. 3) I use my iPhone as well as a Sony DSC-HX60 (for the amazing zoom). It also has an in-built image stabiliser.
      ad. 4) Do you think my walking footage is steady enough? Thank you! Again, I use the Sony DSC-HX60 for it. Picture could be less shaky but I can't get myself to a) pay 200-300 squids for a gimbal, and b) look like a tw*t walking around with a gimbal (that's not fair to those who use it but I prefer to be inconspicuous).
      You ever over in Glasgow? If so, give me a shout! Just hit me up on Twitter :D

    finally! I've been waiting for this one haha.. sad the MAX is delayed.. but great video anyway.. 7+ hours in a 738 R.I.P legs haha glad you've got a free row.. these meals are quite expensive.. you defo did the right decision to buy some food at EDI!

    • @SOPLANETUBE
      @SOPLANETUBE  7 років тому +1

      Hehehe....it's the same seats as on Lufthansa and Austrian short-haul. The seat pitch wasn't that bad actually but as always, I am pretty short. The free row did make the flight really comfortable. I was told that they had weight restrictions for the 737-800 so can't sell all seats. Once the MAX arrives, I guess this won't happen anymore. I paid for the food on the way back so that will be in the next video...it was good but not worth the price tag!

    Very interesting to see a tripreport of Norwegian's 737 long-haul product! Did not look too bad, but I think I wouldn't like to spend 7 hours on those seats, I already dislike 2 hours on Lufthansa seats which look almost the same! ;) But I don't want to complain, the Norwegian product is absolutely okay if the prices are low, you get what you pay for! Very nice video mate, liked a lot! :)

    I wouldn't be very happy if had a seven hour flight with no in flight entertainment. Flights don't come cheap these days, I think I would have felt ripped off. Was this the original plane or a replacement for one that broke down hence the delay at Edinburgh.

    • @SOPLANETUBE
      @SOPLANETUBE  7 років тому +1

      Putting things in perspective - I only paid £165 for the return flight. This is nothing and for this price I was happy not to have proper IFE, food, or checked luggage! This was a promotional fare - the cheapest basic tickets you can get now come to about £260? At this price point, I would still be happy to pay it if I was going for a weekend and didn't need any checked luggage. Once you add on the luggage, you already get into the territory of cheap legacy airline fares to the US East Coast. In that case (at around £300, I'd just go with a legacy airline, maybe pay a bit more - and get food as well.
      This was the original plane - it just came in late from Oslo.

    I was expecting the 737 MAX which has a decrease in fuel burn and increase in range. I suspect the 737-800 had a deliberately low passenger count in order to achieve it's trip range. A fully loaded 737-800 would not only be too heavy to take off, it would also be unable to reach it's destination.
    I reccomend you have a look at secretyflying.com for cheap flights over the atlantic, flew across the states 3 times last year with BA for just over £200 return (thanks to error fares), including a trip to peru for £240. Flying to cuba in Nov with aeromexico for £130 return from AMS. Not a paid advertisement, just making you aware of other methods you can fly cheaply.

      I was expecting the MAX as well when I booked it but as you probably know there were delays with its delivery to Norwegian.
      Yes, the flight wasn't full because flying the 800 on this route comes with weight restrictions - lucky me haha!
      I already check secret flying every now and then. Unfortunately, I am not that flexible time-wise that I can just book trips randomly. But thanks anyway :D

    How would you rate Edinburgh airports security ? I'd say its one of the fastest around.

    • @SOPLANETUBE
      @SOPLANETUBE  7 років тому

      Edinburgh it usually pretty efficient - I like to refer to it as organised chaos! When you get through the barrier, you end up in a what is basically a holding area and you have to fight your way through to where the queues usually start. The space is quite limited and can be a bit claustrophobic at times I think. I do prefer Glasgow I have to say....

    Is the wifi connection unlimited use or do you only get enough for 1 message before you have to mortgage your house to get inflight wifi?

    • @SOPLANETUBE
      @SOPLANETUBE  7 років тому +1

      The wifi is pretty slow and quite useless for anything fun...I was only able to tweet text and not pictures. And even if you were willing to mortgage your house, they don't give you that option.

    • @SOPLANETUBE

      It's a secondary thin route - they wouldn't be able to fill a large plane for such a flight. The 737 is perfect for this.

    How much did you spend on this trip totally including food and transfer to Boston?

    • @SOPLANETUBE
      @SOPLANETUBE  7 років тому

      Hi Cristoffer! I used the promotion that was on at the time and paid £165 return for the ticket. I didn't pay for pre-paid meal which costs £20 but bought sandwiches at the airport. I didn't pay for luggage either. The one thing I paid for was seat reservation which costs £20 - this allows you to choose your seat and also move your seat if needed (which I did to ensure I had nobody next to me). I did't go to Boston - the reason I mentioned Boston is that this route is sold as Boston by Norwegian (and a total injustice as Providence was amazing and is a great destination in itself).

      Hey Life guard! You are talking about our Irish friends - Aer Lingus ☘️ www.aerlingus.com. They fly A330s and 757s long-haul (and sometimes 767) with an Airbus and ATR short-haul fleet. Hope this helps!

    The sky interior looks nice although I'm not a big fan of the Boeing 737. I prefer narrow body airbuses as they are usually more quiet when you board, the windows are higher so you get a better view and they are more comfortable

    • @SOPLANETUBE
      @SOPLANETUBE  7 років тому +1

      Wow I love my planes but I have never made those observations! I am guess I am quite short so I don't really notice a height difference when it comes to the windows. I like the 737 because it is a bit more rough around the edges. It was pretty noisy sitting right in the back but I like that! You get to feel the plane. I am a sucker for turboprops as well and those wee ones are a hell lot more noisy!

    • @adrianrubino5581

    Last year I flew on American Airlines from New York to Edinburgh. I landed on time, but my luggage didn't arrive. I go to the baggage claim (British Airways handled it) and the baggage claim representative looks things up and giggles. She tells me my luggage went to Las Vegas. Go figure. Baggage handlers must randomly throw your luggage on whatever plane they feel like. My baggage eventually arrived the next day.

      +roachtoasties Hahahaha that must have been a fun trip for your bag LOL. Shame you cant claim any miles on that!
      BA always used to lose my luggage. I just arrived with the expectation of not having to schlepp my case home myself 😂

    • @SOPLANETUBE
      @SOPLANETUBE  7 років тому +1

      Hi IrishAviation! It depends - I used the promotion they had on which came in at 165 pounds return. I only paid extra for seat reservation as I needed a window seat (£20). I only stayed for the weekend so only had carry on with me.
      If you add in all extras without a promo fare, then I feel that there is not much difference to legacy airline fares to be honest. I think the regular fares from EDI are about 250 pounds return excl. extras - guess it's roughly the same from Cork?
      From a plane geek perspective though, I thought it was fun to be on a 737 for 7+ hours. Also, Providence and surrounding areas are totally worth a visit. I had no expectations and had a blast.
