- How about the great Robert Earl Keen singing the Bob Wills tune "Ding Dong Daddy from Dumas"? It's our Whataburger performance of the week (of course) and comes from the brand new Asleep at the Wheel Bob Wills tribute album called 'Still The King: Celebrating The Music of Bob Wills & Texas Playboys' that features 22 amazing collaborations.

Whoever wrote this song must have graduated from one of Dumas's top business schools with really good grades

Phil Baxter, 1928
Great Music!
Pretty good, although Bill Heath's cover might still be my favorite.
Why mess with perfection?
bill heath's perfection in every way.
Bill’s band on this track would make basketball star Tommy Peacock jealous
You mean the original? This cover is just a cheap imitation.
I really love the Nick Shoulders version!
The first time I heard Asleep At The Wheel many years ago was their first time on Austin city limits. I have been a fan ever since then. Ray Benson has an incredible voice
This band has always reminded me of Bob Wills. Great country swing! I love it.
Love Ray Benson.
Emily killing it on Keyboards!.. Great Band!
Damn, that Katie has got that warm fiddle tone ALL DAY. And what killer solos by all. 🎶💙
Western Swing Ain't Dead!!It's asleep at the Wheel!!
My mother was from Perryton Texas but later moved to Dumas where my grandfather lived and she loved this song!!!!!!
WHAT A Joy to be able to see Ray Benson sing & Perform.
Elizabeth McQueen said she had a blast working with Ray. Said he was the hardest working guy in music. Love me some Asleep at the wheel!
She's quite a talent in her own right!
The first thing you see driving through Dumas, Texas, is the big cowboy and the sign "Home of the Ding Dong Daddies"!
i am here to mary your band
That gal on the piano rocked it
lol ..that girl :)))
That was great , but I still love the 30's version Bob Wills recorded.
In just a regular guy from Dumas TX. I don't want to get rough either though 😂
The first time I heard Sleep at the Wheel was there first appearance on Austin city limits many many years ago. I have been a fan ever since then. Ray Benson has an incredible voice.

Love the girl on the violin.
That would be Katie, always fiddling and singing up a storm. Love what she adds to the band.
Me too
In think in this case it’s referred to as a fiddle
Katie Shore
I like the fiddle player
Me gusta!
That's a lot of talent there. Even the band ie getting with it.need to get Jr.brown in there .
I thought it WAS JR.BROWN at 1st!😎🎸🎶
Jr was with them briefly 20+ years ago. He’s better off in control of his own situation.
Emily Gimble can really play that piano as well belt out a great tune. I heard her sing on the tribute video for Merle Haggard. She did a super cover of ( It Ain't Love, but It Ain't Bad ) .
I was lucky enough to meet and play with her in Taos NM at the Gimble Swing Camp back in 2003 & 2006.
@@BuffaloRick That must have been a wonderful experience ! I’ve been to Taos,NM at least three times, sure wish I could have been there when the Swing Camp was going on. The west was always a favorite vacation spot of my late husband and I loved it as well. Thanks for your reply…

That's our song! Come by and see us!
Who ever knows this Phil Harris song is amazing.
As Tony the tiger would say that was great.
FYI...
The voice of Tony the Tiger was Thril Ravenscroft .
So THAT'S what Buck Showalter does in his spare time!
I think I just did my stuff in my pants. Oops!
I love Asleep at the Wheel, but this is not something that I could even LIKE a little bit.

A side note on this classic song from the 1930's. Norton tells Ralph "you ain't no ding dong daddy from dumas." when the two are getting ready to practice their dancing skills (doing the hucklebuck) before taking out their wives on The Honeymooners.
