    I have pretty much the same set up on my Multistrada. The Zumo is a very nice piece of kit. I like how you can upload a route from your phone directly to the Garmin. It’s really handy. Like many others, I found the Ducati Sygic GPS to be a total POS. And I like having a completely separate screen for my GPS. Keep up the videos I enjoy watching them. 👍

      I, too, find the Sygic nav to be a horrible solution on the Mts v4s. I am torn between just putting my phone on a RAM mount for Google Maps (controllable by voice via Cardo Packtalk Bold) or shelling out the money for the Garmin. Is there a reason you all would recommend the Zumo over phone-based google maps?

      @@cmelochick The primary reason Chris, is that you cannot plan multi-waypoint routes with Google maps or sister app Waze, and then follow them on your phone. If you just want to go from A-B the quickest way possible, then Waze cannot be beaten. And if you want a cheap route planning device, that is discreet, a Beeline is a way to go, particularly if you like to plan routes on your phone, rather than a laptop. If Waze supported multi-waypoints, every GPS would be an overnight dodo. But Google makes too much money off selling map services to developers of route planning and GPS manufacturers. I think it's a false economy, as I know several riders who would happily pay a subscription model monthly payment to have a multi-waypoint option in Waze. If you do mount your phone to your bike, and especially if you have a late model iPhone, do yourself a favor and invest in an anti-vibration quad-lock system mount, it will stop the vibes shafting your nice expensive smartphone. One final point is a GPS works when you have no cell service, and you don't have to download large offline maps to solve that. Oh, and for me personally I find Music is very hit and miss when I just use the phone and Card. But when I control music via the Zumo, it works flawlessly 100% of the time for me so far. I hope that helps?

    What was Ducati thinking, completely defeats the object of having a huge TFT screen on a bike, if your not going to utilise it for a”decent” gps mapping solution! 🧐 Same goes to all those other manufacturers, who are fitting these huge TFT screens, but not using them for the GPS (Triumph, KTM etc, etc). Just add wireless Apple Car play, atleast then the customer can choose. The Garmin XT is a great bit of kit, so much better than what’s gone before, but you still have that age old problem of theft, so have to remove it every time you leave the bike. Sure your enjoy the XT Richard, make planning route easier for you. The only issue I have with my Garmin XT, I have yet to find a good solution for creating routes on my iPad, to then upload to the XT. Maybe you can do a video on this, once you have used it for a while. 👍

      Sygic now supports GPX import, but it still doesn't import multi-shaping point and waypoint routes correctly - it's laughable that it still doesn't work! I don't use an iPad, but you can always reach out to MyRoute-App or whomever for advice. there are lockable clamps from Touratech etc, but their costs are hard to justify given the GPS is only $399.

    Shazam! Richard gets this sweet Ducati MSV4 set up just right and then BMW comes out with their new GS1300 with all the good stuff and even the GPS issue gets resolved. Then I woke up from the dream. 🙏🏼

    Hi Richard. Thank you for this info! I’ve have used the Zumo XT since 2020 and installed it on my MSV4S earlier this year, using your friend Jerry’s arrangement. That set up is with RAM-B-367U that mounts by replacing one of the handle bar bolts with a RAM bolt with a RAM ball on the end. I then use the accessory plug with an adapter to charge it. I prefer the ZUMO XT lower and out of my line of sight. My questions for you: my MV4S came with an extra bag of goodies that includes 2 extra pig tails for what might be for this very purpose- connecting a GPS. Is that what you show in your video - the extra pig tail? I realize there is a pig tail already in the connector, curious if you got the extras too. 2nd Q: After installation, does the harness wire easily fit coming back out of the panel? Is there a seam that it exits out off the console, or did you have to come up with a solution?

      Thanks, Kevin. My preference is to not take my eyes off the road ahead too much, so the higher setup is ideal for me, plus I already had the Iconic mount, which I think looks really clean with the GPS on/off the bike. My bag did not come with any pigtails, just the straight wiring, but that was a clean live/neutral, which I believe is an improvement on what I'm told was a more complex wiring harness type of affair previously? The Garmin wires are very long, but I didn't want to chop them short, because you never know how many bikes you might eventually move it to. So I wrapped them up figure-of-eight style (sorta) and cable tied them together to sit neatly beneath the right-hand console, allowing for the screen in its highest setting and for the bars to move freely through 180 degrees. I ran the cable down the back f the Iconic mount (between the mount and fairing screen), back through, and secured it against the right-hand painted panel using a circular black rubber cable stay. So neat, tidy, no drilling, easily removed/migrated to a new bike. Hope that explanation helps?

    Hi Richard, many thanks for your video. I have also recently purchased the XT, which I am very pleased with. However, I cannot connect it to my MacBook to upload gpx files as Garmin state you must use a Windows PC to do this. You mentioned that you can Airdrop files due to the XT having Wi-Fi capability; can you please explain how to do this. Many thanks, Andy.

    • @RichDunn
      @RichDunn  2 роки тому +1

      Go into the WIFI option on the XT and it will search for close-by networks. Select the internet connection that you have at home and enter the password to connect to it. Go into the Bluetooth option on the XT and with your smartphone Bluetooth connection active, select and pair your phone. Download the Garmin Drive and Garmin Explore apps. On your Mac, AirDrop the GPS to your phone. Your phone will show a list of compatible GPX apps to open the file in (e.g Drive & Explore. If it doesn't select the "..." and "More" option to see more apps. If you select Drive I believe it imports it as a Track. If you select Explore I believe it will import as both a Route & Track. You can select it via Where To and then Explore on the XT. I find Basecamp output files do not work well with it and nor do GPX files uploaded to the Explore website (which synchs with the app). So I use MyRoute-App website and generate files in the OpenStreetMap (OSM) format. First test today, but a complex route and it worked over its 200 miles. Hope that helps?
