  • 'All we're doing is getting nowhere and causing harm to both sides.'
Benjamin Netanyahu has said that his Israeli government opposes the creation of a Palestinian state.
Former Israeli ambassador to the US Dr MichaelOren insists to Iain Dale that a two-state solution is 'impossible'.
The Israeli prime minister said that his country must have security control over all land west of the river Jordan, including Gaza, to prevent an atrocity like October 7th taking place again.

Why do you interview criminals. All his accusations about Palestinians apply to Israeli settlers at least 5 times more strongly. If there is no two-state solution, would Israelis accept truly democratic Israel, one person one vote - not the current aparthied system ? Ms. El Jamal and the caller James make so much more sense. Indeed, Israel was imposed on Palestinians in the early 1900s. It's time to now impose Palestine on the colonial settlers. Of course, 70% of them will be against forming a Palestinian state - afterall its they who came from foreign lands, not Palestinians. Finally, unlike what the host so confidently says, It's not debatable that Netanyahu funded Hamas in the past.

Your land? Remind me where it is? When has there ever been a state called 'Palestine?
What you think of as Palestine, a term never used in any UN documents before 1964 was always an occupied territory from Roman times right through to 1918 when the Ottoman Empire ended. Then the British administered it as the British Mandate for Palestine and Trans Jordan.
Jews have had a continuous presence in the region since the beginning of human history and can easily claim the land as theirs. Indeed the 'West Bank's' previous name was 'Judea and Sumeria' literally meaning 'LAND OF THE JEWS.
Most of the people of Arab heritage in the region today are IMMIGRANTS from every Muslim nation in Africa and the Arabian Penninsula. Particularly Egypt. Half the population of Gaza are of Egyptian heritage, the same as you are of Arab heritage.

I want them to have a Sovereign State of Palestine but it ain't going to happen now, which has been Israel's plan all along.
So it seems as if the choice is to either have the Palestinians get carved off and forced to live in isolated communities scattered across the globe with ZERO political power,
      or
To consolidate their communities as free peoples in a democratic open society that values their skills, education, culture, and capital.

The Palestinians were offered an “entity” that is “less than a state” with lots of limitations. If a two state solution is going to happen then the illegal settlements have to go. You can’t have a state with hundreds of small towns with fully armed settlers doing their own thing. The one state solution is misleading. If there is a one state then the Palestinians would need equal rights, and that means equal voting rights. That would change the whole complexion of Israeli politics. I think they want a one state where they have rights, and Palestinian have almost none. In other words, an apartheid state!

And please note my comment was "if no two state then..." I would prefer a two state. But it would be totally unjust for Israel to take all the territory as a Jewish homeland. That was not the UN plan, because the UN plan recognised, correctly, that the Palestinians who lived there already, also deserved statehood. To be honest the whole state of Israel is an unfair imposition on them, the only justification for the state of Israel I find acceptable is the constant persecution of Jews over the centuries leading to a desire for a homeland that provides a safe retreat.... But the Palestinians weren't responsible for that persecution

All things that are happening now shows that the two state solution is essential for the existence of Israel and the creation of an independent Palestinian state is important for the Palestinian people to live with freedom. Israel is now doing what it thinks without listening to the world. Israel must work with the UN and International Court of Justice and it does not respect UN and UN resolutions. Remember, the UN mandate (and previously the British mandate) that established the state of Israel also established a state for the Palestinians. But Israel has colonized much of that land, and claims all of it for "Greater Israel".
If not a Palestinian state, then what? The palestinians are supposed to accept they will forever be 3rd class subjects in an Apartheid regime, kept in permanent military occupation? There is no way they will accept that, and we will continue to see this endless cycle of Brutal Israeli repression and violent Palestinian resistance. And whenever the Palestinians try nonviolent resistance, they are massacred by the Israeli military, like the 400 peaceful protesters killed by soldiers and snipers in 2018 and 2019 and the thousands crippled.

The Israeli Ambassador lied his @rse off! Where to start firstly, it is not true to say that both sides don’t want a two state solution. Hamas don’t represent the majority view of Palastinians. It is that 70% of Israelis don’t want Palastinians to have one. Then there’s the usual lies about Palastinians rejecting every offer of a state. The lie is that the Ambassador doesn’t mention that each offer had less was consecutively less than the UN agreed state. The Palastinians will accept that in a heartbeat. If it’s not two states then it has to be one state. With the right of return for Palastinians and without apartheid against the Palastinians. The world has to force Israel into one option or the other.

It feels like there’s a big mismatch between the historically progressive and inclusive identity of the Jewish community and the current ethnocentric policies under Israel’s far-right government. While Jews have been integral to social and cultural advancements globally, living harmoniously in diverse societies, the insistence on an ethnostate seems increasingly out of step with today’s values of equality and coexistence. The shift away from a community known for championing progressivism to alignment with exclusionary policies is perplexing and concerning. It raises questions about the necessity and impact of maintaining an ethnostate in a world that has made significant strides in human rights, partly thanks to the contributions of Jewish individuals themselves. This paradox challenges us to reconcile a complex past with the present, urging a reflection on how ideals of inclusivity can navigate the realities of geopolitics and collective identity.

The ambassador is incorrect. The said solutions that he claimed to have been refused by the Palestinians were described by one of the Palestinians negotiator as humiliating and that Israel never gave an inch.
Contrary, Israel approved settlers to have opportunities to build houses on Palestinian lands while negotiating with them.
To believe that the events of 7 of October came from vacuum is to deny decades of occupation, oppression, desecration of holy sites and land theft.

It shouldnt be up to natanyahu if a free state be founded for the Palestinians, given the Israeli government only favours a Jews state where all others are treated as 2nd class citizens. The Israeli state was only established in 1948. The Palestinians have lived in Palestine for over 2000 yrs, so, deep down they are the true descendants of the ancient Jews who lived in that land during the time of Jesus. The Zionists are more Europeans or others than descendants of the ancient Israelites. No, it shouldnt be up to these Zionists😢

I don't understand the reluctance of the international community to just recognize a Palestinian state based on the 1948 borders. The illegal settlers can move to Israel or back to the US where a lot of them came from. If Israel doesn't play ball then crippling sanctions can be employed.

The Jews have always been in Israel, it's just that most were scattered due to persecution by subsequent conquerors. Jews started to return to Israel in greater numbers prior to 1948 due to persecution in Europe and Arab countries. They are from all over the world.

Anyone who is interested to check who opposed a palestinian state, just go to un page, it s always usa, israel, uk... Moreover just right after oslo agreements, settling expanded which meant clearly that from official israeli side there was no intention of keeping the agreement. Sanghita interviewed an israeli former minister of justice who said exactly the opposite of Michael Oren.

Any ‘state’ has the RIGHT to remain a state and for that, it needs the right to defend itself. And Isreal totally opposes Palestinian right to self defence.
Keep in mind; this is Isreal at its most liberal.
